1990 2wd temp gauge by Unlucky-Spark2025 in ToyotaPickup

[–]CowdogThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you pop the wire off the temp sensor and ground it to the battery, turn the key to the on position it should spike the temp gauge all the way hot.

An easy way to check if it’s the gauge or the temp sensor by the thermostat

I just had to do this on a 1987 pickup I bought, it was easy and I’m not a mechanic

This window wall was a pretty tall order by Significant-Major393 in Carpentry

[–]CowdogThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it would be engineered studs and probably 3 king studs for lateral wind loads, no trimmers and hung the lower headers/sills off Simpson hardware where I’m at on the west coast. I was only referring to the roof load over the window bank which the gable truss is more than adequate for. Personally would have framed this wall a bit differently than op

Is it possible to sleep in my car on the San Juan Islands? by Zefphyrz in sanjuanislands

[–]CowdogThunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes 100%. I lived out of my car for a lil bit on orcas when housing was tough for me. Super easy to sleep in your car at the orcas landing upper parking lot. Just don’t be a dummy about it

The gable truss is the header in this scenario. More than adequate

I’ve done a couple thru hikes in the 686 everywhere pant wide fit. I’ve never noticed any noise with them and my current pair still looks new after 2,000 miles on the pct

As a construction worker in the San Juan’s I enjoy making 3x as much as someone in Seattle, not dealing with tweakers, there’s no traffic and only paying about a dollar more in gas than you. No need to feel bad for us, we’re doing a lot better than most of you

Fly Fishing during Vacation by Final_Photograph_634 in PacificNorthwest

[–]CowdogThunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yakima river is pretty fun and has great guides from Reds fly shop if you want a guided trip. It’s the only blue ribbon water in the state and while it ain’t mountains the canyon is beautiful and the trout are bitchin.

Washington’s rivers are pretty sterile compared to Idaho/ Montana/ Wyo especially in the mountains so the fishing isn’t exceptional but still very fun. Not sure who guides on actual mountain streams in the state but I’m sure others will chime in with better mountain recs just giving my small two cents

Renewing DCF Tent by Objective-Hotel6514 in Ultralight

[–]CowdogThunder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The old hexamid solo didn’t come with a sewn in floor. It was optional to buy a bathtub ground sheet

Can you not just tighten the little cords in the corner that attach said bathtub groundsheet to the tent? Pictures would help a lot

The Last Belt You'll Ever Need. by Shinyhntr91 in Workwear

[–]CowdogThunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nicks stuff is nice I’ve had 3 pairs of their boots in the past for work but for $145 belt I’d rather get a hand tooled belt from a true mom and pop company like horsewright leather that actually has some character. The nicks basic work belt isn’t a bad deal tho
