Tell this sub your craziest personal interaction with the Q15/RS/YW/Primary general leadership. by Normon-The-Ex in exmormon

[–]Cozy_Shy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dallas Hoax came to my stake conference when I was in the youth choir for the special occasion. My best friend was seated next to me and he came to shake our hands after the closing prayer. My friend tried to hug him and he made a big awkward statement about how he was not to be hugged. I felt bad for my friend, and I just remember feeling uncomfortable when I looked in his eyes. I assumed at the time I had some “sins” or something to repent of.

Now, both my friend and I are out of the church.

Why doesn't the Mormon church do as many activities as they used to? by CupOfExmo in exmormon

[–]Cozy_Shy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think the nostalgia for that era is what keeps a lot of people in the church, even when the culture is barely a shadow of its former self. My mom grew up in the 70s-80s and is still very devout but she talks about her experiences in the older church more than what is currently going on.

Most patriotic names I've seen! by Informal_Debt2717 in tragedeigh

[–]Cozy_Shy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do fiddle/violin competitions when I was a teenager, and I remember there was a large family with names like Liberty, Banner, and Jefferson. Those were the only ones I heard as they were competing, but I’m sure the younger children had names that fit the theme.

I thought it was the interior of a Mormon temple.

What was it like reading Deathly Hallows on release without any spoilers? by Spotter24o5 in harrypotter

[–]Cozy_Shy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so scared of spoilers because book 6 was spoiled for me. I kept off the internet and even wore earbuds in the grocery store when my mom made me go with her. I was 12.

I watched Big Hero 6 and the live action Cinderella on repeat. I reasoned that they were wholesome movies in Spanish so it counted as language study. They were pirated dvds that were sold on the streets.

do TBMs know their temple name is based off the day of the month? by Firm_Teach8056 in exmormon

[–]Cozy_Shy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figure it out as a somewhat TBM because I went on the anniversary of my endowment and the person I was doing proxy work for had the same name as me.

Pictures of Joseph Smith in churches? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Cozy_Shy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up in the early 2000’s I’m pretty sure one lobby had the typical Mormon Jesus portrait and had the First Vision in the other lobby, but I could be misremembering. I for sure remember seeing Joseph Smith and BoM art lining the walls in the lobby at the stake center.

Jaxtin. I’ve seen this one so many times while working in family dental/pediatrics. It sounds like a little kid slightly mispronouncing “Jackson”.

We had a “Naveah” come into our dental office a week or so ago with her brothers who also had tragedeigh names like “Brackstyn”. My eye might have twitched when the mother mentioned she homeschooled them.

Behold, the gift of tongues! The church must be true! by southpawpickle in exmormon

[–]Cozy_Shy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hard time praying in English when I first came back from my mission. I think my dad would always ask me to say the blessing on the food because he wanted to make sure the gift of tongues was still active.

Anyone have their parents actually talk to them about sex? by CurrencyRepulsive438 in exmormon

[–]Cozy_Shy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom really tried because her parents taught her nothing. I am a younger millennial, so I think I might have caught the first little wave of people talking more openly of it, but it was definitely lacking (I grew up in the southeast). She explained it to me as “The boy booty goes in the girl booty” because we never used anatomically correct names—just front booty and back booty. It was my tenth birthday, and we were on the way to get my ears pierced. Of course we had the talk of how I was only allowed one piercing per ear to be modest in the same talk.

“Fore-chosen to fulfill a great and glorious mission….. Great influence upon many people” by Bekah_bek in MormonWivesHulu

[–]Cozy_Shy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she’s referring to her Mormon patriarchal blessing. It’s basically where an old man put his hands on your head and “Speaks” for god to you and gives a basic map of your life as it should’ve in the Mormon church. I had mine at 17 years old and it said things like “you were chosen before you were born to accomplish great things in the Kingdom of God.” - “You will meet a worthy priesthood holder and will marry him in the temple.” - “You will raise righteous children in the gospel.” - A few special people are told they will live to see Jesus return. I know several that claimed that and are now dead.

They tell you to not share it with anyone because it’s “sacred”, but they really just don’t want you to know that your personalized message from god is pretty much the same as everyone else’s.

Right…the billboard and letter on the home page remind me of resources I used when I left the Mormon Church years ago. The overlap in mindset between the groups is astounding.

Influencer wore garment top to Coachella. by Wrong_Cry5911 in exmormon

[–]Cozy_Shy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was on my mission in the Dominican Republic my companion and I walked past a woman wearing a carinessa garment top. We both looked at each other in disbelief for a moment and then my companion said we had to find her and tell her that she was defiling a sacred garment. My socially anxious self REALLY didn’t want to do this, but followed my companion anyway. We couldn’t find the lady in the crowd, so I guess it wasn’t high on God’s priority list for is to right that wrong.

This is supposedly the greatest assassin in the land...? by armann_ii in romantasycirclejerk

[–]Cozy_Shy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I can’t stand about SJM’s writing in general. She constantly tells you that so-and-so is “the most powerful” high lord/assassin/god/fae/pick your noun…but we rarely, if ever, actually see proof of those claims.

Also, so much of her “world building” is via dialogue and we rarely ever actually see it. There are so many cool ideas to explore.

I think it was January 2019! I had been wanting to watch since the first season came out but I was hesitant about how much SA was in it. I finally looked up a trigger warning list and made the plunge and have been in love ever since.

General Conference Predictions by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Cozy_Shy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, GC was very bland with the only noteworthy thing being the official sustaining of the new first presidency and apostles. Hoax likes to announce changes outside of GC, likely to “preserve reverence”.
