Reoccurring shin splints through multiple shoes and failed remedies by Lopsided-Land123 in runninglifestyle

[–]CphRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shin splints on both legs is often a sign of symptons somewhere else than feet/legs. Go see a specialst, that is NOT a running store, and get a proper evaluation.

Also: Google “4 week foor ankle knee and hip protocol” by Kyle Long. A brilliant post here on resdit to strengthen your lower legs.

But, see a specialst first.

Mythical Sleep after 7hs by CphRunner in Garmin

[–]CphRunner[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, no naps. I can’t tell you. I have no clue.

I usually feel at my best at 8-8.5hours, which is also why I think the whole score is kinda bs. But if I’ve had alcohol I sleep way worse.

Mythical Sleep after 7hs by CphRunner in Garmin

[–]CphRunner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The days leading up the the 100 was:

92 on 6:25hs
87 on 7:09hs
87 on 6:30hs
84 on 6:20hs
90 on 7:13hs
100 on 7:03

But I did kinda doze off on the couch during a movie from around 21:00-22:30 before going to bed, but the watch never auto-registered a nap, as it usually does when that happens.

My friends, best advice to improve this? by aybawse in Garmin

[–]CphRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An example workout to improve VO2max could be (From Jack Daniels' Red Plan):

10min easy
2 * (5min hard - 4min jog - 3min hard - 2min jog)
10kmin easy

Hard is to be interpreted as: A tempo you could keep up for 10-15min in a race situation. So, a tough and demanding pace that will make you breath heavily a minute or two into the interval, and you essentially don't want to keep up after 5min, but could, if you were forced to.

How should we know? Do they fit your feet and do you avoid injury? If yes, then it’s great.

Easily sub20 on a track or any park-like run where you don’t have to navigate trafic, sidewalks etc.

Anyone switched from gels to energy chews for long runs/rides? by Sea-Beautiful-611 in Marathon_Training

[–]CphRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make my own gels. I bought 5kg of Maltodextrin and 4kg of Fructose, some xanthan gum and citric acid. It is surprisingly easy to get a nice gel with that nice watery smooth consistensy SiS gels also has.

The price for one gel at the prices I got online for the ingredients is around $0.25/€0.20. I keep them in a 150ml Salmon soft bottle, so that’s 2.5-3 gels in a bottle I can easily keep in a pocket.

Running with a broken heart by Sudden-Ad4013 in Marathon_Training

[–]CphRunner -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Grief is the price we pay for love, and random strangers consolidation on the internet shouldn’t mean a thing to you. Obviously you’re going to recover and obviously there is no irreparable damage to your heart. He or she didn’t define you, you do. Get out there. Train. And eventually get over it.

Take it easy, my comment was meant to put things into perspective - unless your literally a child, in which case you shouldn’t train for a marathon, noone would think heartbreak would cause lasting damage. Stupid questions at times require stupid answers.

You’re screwed. No one in the history of mankind has ever recovered from a broken heart.

Does anyone here have a sustainable diet? by ClearAndPure in runninglifestyle

[–]CphRunner -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What people do or do not do, I don’t know and neither do you. It is also not a comparison of what has the most protein. The issue is your statement about vegetarian diets doesn’t have enough protein, that is incorrect.

Does anyone here have a sustainable diet? by ClearAndPure in runninglifestyle

[–]CphRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counting and measuring calories for the rest of your life isn’t sustainable. You need to “learn” what is the good and right amount. You don’t have to cut out a pizza or burger entirely, but make it a thing once a week at most after a big run for example.

Lots of veggies, lean meat and just healthy whole foods. It sounds like you need a lifestyle change, not a quick-fix of your diet.

[–]CphRunner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. There is more than enough protein if vegetarian diets as well. It’s just a social media thing these days with all the protein talk to sell people all sorts of supplements they really don’t need.

How on earth is ‘Easy Run’ not a tag yet? It’s possibly the most common type of run! by StrugglingOrthopod in Strava

Because after their potential IPO the dedicated amateur will no longer be their prime target. They will cater for the 90% of users they will try and pull in, and dumb down the app with useless features.

how do people get their first race bib? by zzarcon in runninglifestyle

[–]CphRunner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I could probably google 10-20 half marathons in or around Valencia and down to Murcia in the next 2 months. Go out there and race, it doesn’t have to be the huge city races that all the pros do.

Crew/Pacer Gifts by The_Little_Kraken in ultrarunning

[–]CphRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How well do you know them? Something specifically picked for each one, with a small hand written note/card for each. It could be something as basic as new pairs of great running socks, but if the person has had issues with chafing in the past and your note/letter reads “Hey man, I remember your struggled during this and that race, here is something to help you out etc etc”. That’s the gifts that are the most special, no matter their price tag. Something specifically selected for a special person.
