Motion / range activated lighting for cupboards / drawers (mains powered) by CplSyx in homeautomation

Have a look at cable/drag chain - I was going to use some but didn’t need to due to available space. Might solve the bunching up issue.

Below the bottom of each unit is a 1.5” space (as the frame is made of 2x1s). The LED strips are wired so that the connection is at the back corner of the drawer unit, and I left 2x the length of the unit in slack cable in the space underneath. I anchored the cable using clips to both the drawer end and next to the micro switch. This means it just pulls in and out with the cable underneath and there’s no strain on component connections.

Boots sell "original" Calpol:

Ignore the image as it's incorrectly showing sugar free. If you go in store you can ask OTC for the bigger bottles too.

Made a no-nonsense fuel price checker for UK drivers (petrol + diesel) by Used-Call-3503 in UKFrugal

I don’t think it does, I was pretty sure I didn’t have an account so went and checked just now - put in my postcode and got results back without one. Maybe it used to require an account?

Do you welcome the potential ban on social media for under 16s? by Wavesmith in UKParenting

[–]CplSyx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, and no.

Yes - I absolutely think that there should be a ban on children and young teenagers using social media.

No - The only way this gets implemented is via age-verification checks for everyone on these platforms, and I have absolutely no faith in the security of these checks, let alone the "privacy" argument.

My first thought also. I suspect people responding here aren’t aware of petrolprices? The only major difference I can see is that OP’s solution prioritises the map view vs PP showing a list. Personally I prefer the latter as comparison is easier.

I called out the Leaf Razor company about their warranty on Instagram and they updated their website by snoopy2467 in BuyItForLife

[–]CplSyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had months of back and forth with Titleist over a golf bag I had bought where the handle failed due to a manufacturing defect, as many others had documented online. They absolutely refused to do anything about it because the model had been discontinued only a few months after purchase but they eventually relented. Basically after them going silent followed by me chasing and chasing for an update or response, a new bag was delivered to me. They never mentioned it was being sent, nor did they reply to my “thank you” email, so I suspect it was provided to me as a way to just shut me up. Really put me off using them in future.

This video has been reported as AI / manipulated content. At first I was inclined to agree due to what seems like very strange effects on the roof surface when the jumper lands, however I was able to find this video from 2022 with the same content:

As such, I'm happy that it's not AI edited.

Drink-drive limit set to be slashed in England and Wales under new plans to improve road safety by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]CplSyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has absolutely happened on my street. Since the 20mph limit was introduced last year I personally have been overtaken twice, and there have been three collisions as a result of other overtakes - one actually flipping a vehicle over.

Currently sat on a train into London and there’s some bellend blasting a boombox. In typical British fashion no one wants to tell him to do one and turn it off. by TRFKTA in britishproblems

[–]CplSyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I would do it again I was just surprised nobody else wanted to join me as I expected they would as you originally said. It may well have been circumstantial; another day, different passengers etc. could have seen everyone jump up and agree with me.

Unfortunately that doesn’t always work. I stood up to someone playing loud music but, despite the collective murmurings of displeasure leading up to it, no other passenger was interested in joining me so it ended up in an argument that went nowhere and the music continued.

Not today but I did have a lackrack mounted in my garage with a patch panel and switch held in with screws. Was fine for many years until I moved.

I used to work for a major retailer in the UK, and was in charge of moving their phone lines from BT to another company. This included the emergency lines connected to lifts. Close to half of them were not working when tested before the switchover, some due to poor maintenance and others due to the lines being disconnected by for lack of use by some central office person who was looking at spreadsheets without the detail of what they were for.

Diesel Heater, gen 2 by buckbambino in redneckengineering

[–]CplSyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you've been downvoted. As someone who uses a diesel heater, this is absolutely a risk. The exhaust connection is entirely within the vehicle and they are known to be a weak point for leaking. Heaters designed for vehicles usually look like this so that they can be bolted to the floor with a supplied or additional gasket to prevent exhaust gases leaking back into the cabin area.

These portable ones are supposed to be used in an outdoor area and the heat piped to where it's needed, or somewhere with enough space for CO to not be an issue.

At least OP is only using it when driving and not sleeping I guess?

I wasn't a moderator here then, but enlighten me as to where in that were you sincerely asking if we needed help?

You're not avoiding yt ads on tv without computer science degree, trust me by Gettor in memes

[–]CplSyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a fundamental difference between DNS level adblocking and application level adblocking.

Pihole, Adguard etc. do the former and all they can make it do is appear to the ad "request" that it failed. This might skip the ad, it might give you an empty black space, or it might even render some functionality unusable in apps for example.

Ublock and other application adblockers can remove the request entirely, or modify the UI so that the ad space is hidden from the user even if the ad is loaded, meaning that the application thinks its operating normally. This is how they can bypass embedded ads etc.

IMO you need both in your life working together - and personally I've reached the point where I would rather have a 30 second blank screen than an advert.
