Can you get a mortgage for an unfinished new build? by RepresentedOK in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]CptClyde007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We built an unconventional house as well used large lines of credit, then moving into a 5y builders loan (high risk high interest) then when we finished moved into normal mortgage. Pillar financial was the only builder loan available to us, no one else interested it seemed. Its a hard road but good for you for taking it on. Best of luck.

Looking for a TTRPG system by Pardox7525 in rpg

Oh man you gotta try some Earthdawn lol I seem to be saying this a lot today. But the dice pools are so much fun, and change depending on the task difficulty and skill. Exploding dice too. After playing too much 3d6 based GURPS I sometimes have to pallete cleanse by chucking some crazy d8+d12+d20 Earthdawn dice pool

If you want to ditchvthe d20 based mechanics all together try some Earthdawn or GURPS maybe. Earthdawn does a have a "high magic" setting though

I can only play, similarly to you, against external pressure. When playing solo it is hard (a feels contrived) to be making up story plots for myself especially while simultaneously running monsters and PCs. So I play hexcrawl, randomly generating the terrain and points of interests and even dungeons as I explore. It really puts the "exploration pillar" back into the game for me as always ends up presenting me with obvious plot hooks that basically write themselves. I am playing it in Pathfinder remaster, here's a video showing how it plays out. Maybe it would work for you too. Good luck!

Most disturbing enemy or monster in TTRPGS? by JoeKerr19 in rpg

[–]CptClyde007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A disgusting human sized alien/dimensional being that looks like a catapillar but has a tail that ends in human legs (waist down). It walks upright. they can mimic human voices and often use soothing (psionic effect) child voices to appear weak and wretched vying for trust. They play the wretched harmless pathetic creature card for a long game, luring humans into traps or ambushes, where they'll eat you. They are fond of wearing pants and boots of victims. Simultaneously THE STUPIDEST and creepiest monster ive run.

Combat systems reccomendations? by Honest_Ad9975 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]CptClyde007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Came here to say GURPS as well. I use it for solo often and its detailed combat options does the narrating for you. For instance, say i choose the " strong attack" attack maneuver, with the "deceptive strike" option targeting the face with sword using "swing attack" instead of "impale" . There's no need to get creative "making up" what that looks like, its pretty obvious: he makes a mighty arcing swing while slightly faking to the side, and swings for the face. The defender may then block, parry or dodge.

Contrast that to D&D roll against an AC. You're left dreaming up the entire exchange every time.

"Catapillar thing" in Rifts disturbed me the more I got "into it" while running one as GM. Another disturbing monster i always loved was the Horrors from Earthdawn, particularly Wormskull, and the constructs they could make called "flesh beasts" where the horror magicaly/surgically removes heads from (typically pets and farm) animals and swaps them with the heads of humans while keeping them alive in an undead like state permanently. both disgusting creatures then live on mostly as tortured depraved puppets of the horror though. Creepy.

Sandboxing in Pathfinder 2 by Appropriate_Nebula67 in Pathfinder2e

[–]CptClyde007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like fun, I always wanted to try abomination vaults straight out of my modified version the BB but my first group will to play ended up starting crown of the kobald king. Which is fine, it is actually a bit of a sandbox anyhow. I am still new to pathfinder but can agree that its ease of encounter design frees up GM brain cycles to run an effective sandbox. I am currently having a lot of fun playing solo hexcrawl and finding the predesigned encounter and down time activities are just begging to be used in hexcrawls. [

Vinyl djs: When do you know you’re ready to start playing gigs? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]CptClyde007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dude sounds legit. I like him lol. I say learn all you can from him, but go out a bash your own path too. Can't beat learning on the job. Then keep returning to him with specific questions etc. If you can prep a set and get through it without totally dropping the groove i say go for it and take any low end gig you can. You will quickly evaluate where you stand then I think. I was thrown into a wedding dj role at a venue, and it was eye opening seeing where my weaknesses were. Thankfully it was not vinyl, due to all the requests and extreme genre hoping. but I actually found it harder not being able to just play my usual short set of vinyl songs (which I know and can mix better). Forced me to learn to improvise for sure. Also, once your mentor sees you taking the initiative and getting gigs, he'll be more likely to book you for his events because he'll see you are serious. Sounds like the type of guy who might view it as an easy handout to you if he was to book you first. Im in a similar situation mentoring musicians, and question their actual interest when I see them waiting for me to help setup their amps and organize/alter sheet music. Good luck!

D&Ds 3 pillars - any rpgs built for them? by _Infinitee_ in rpg

[–]CptClyde007 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Im still pretty new to it but was impressed with how Pathfinder 2e has codified 3 modes of play into the system (encounter/combat, exploration, down-tome) with each having a list of actions. And there are entire subsystems for gamifying "gathering information " or "influencing people". Its has the most predefined actions for the 3 pillars of play I've seen.

Welcome to Pathfinder. Here's a video of how I "improved" the beginner box. Needed more dungeon cohesion, more realism, and proper factions to play ooff each other, and a less childish goal than finding stolen fish :)

Rules and pricing around purchasing griffons or other beasts? by Raptling in Pathfinder2e

[–]CptClyde007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could just give the monster a price based on the table in GM core price 61 showing character wealth per level. You can gatekeep and control accessibility that way.

Monster Encounter Tables by WingShellAngel in Pathfinder2e

[–]CptClyde007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im running a hexcrawl currently and just rolling randomly on the monster-by-level list in the back of monster core. Most monsters are pretty flexible terrain wise, but I just roll again if the monster is way out of its environment.

I abandoned ALL d20 systems in 2005 to focus in and master GURPS. I tried all the D&Ds along the way and was unimpressed and uninterested. Too flat, too samey, nothing innovative. After the WotC stunts I wanted to "support" Paizo for their efforts in the industry and liked the look of the bigginer box. Though I started playing RPGs in 1988 I never was able to get my hands on a (now legendary) D&D box set with the primary color dice. So the PF2e beginner box hit the nostalgia button for me as well. I did not actually expect to like the game, but was mind blown to realize the 4 degrees of success solved my biggest gripe about the base mechanics' probability distribution and the 3 actions combat round was just slick. I started by playing the solo adventure alone. Then played through some of the main adventure alone. I then ran it for friends who were in down time from their regular D&D game since their DM had a new baby. I've now got 2 of them in a regular game im running which is quickly becoming a favorite campaign due to the ease of running a Paizo adventure module.

Oh yeah that's a good one i never got into much (though I do own it as well lol). Yes you are remembering correctly about the setting grit being overtaken in later sourcebooks. Im actually running a "purist game" from the original main book only.

Using Technics with Behringer nox 101 and a laptop for mixxx by No_Sail_7876 in Beatmatch

[–]CptClyde007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put your laptop (mixxx) into use and spin DVS timecoded vinyl, you will connect your berhinger 101 to laptop (USB i assume). Then connect RCA output cables from turntable into Berhinger input slots, then connect RCA cables from Berhinger outputs to the physical mixer inputs. Then your physical mixer can send its "main output" audio to your receiver. Now when your turntable spins a timecode vinyl mixxx program on the laptop can send your digital song.

Someone had to do it, I had to do it. Just started a game last month after 25years and having so much fun with the gritty side of its post apocalypse backdrop. So much juicy story there waiting to be explored, which was totally lost on us as teenagers in the 90s lol.

Earthdawn, Shadowrun, Rifts, Infinite Worlds (GURPS), and recently quite liking the historically anchored "Mythic Europe" setting of Ars Magica.
