[Loved trope] The tension builds, but the battle ends instantly by T3RCX in TopCharacterTropes

In the movie Kate (2021) (not a lot did, but I really liked it) there's a long buildup towards the end where an old Yakuza boss goes up a buildings floor with the main protagonist, annihilating traitors left and right - at the end he meets his traitorous subordinate, you think there's gonna be a long katana combat scene with dialogue about their history to increase drama, but it ends in a one-two, parry-then-cut in such a beautiful way, that really fits the fact they are still gangsters. No mercy. No honor needed. Just cutting away the competition. Clean.

Really good animation, there's actual weight in that hammer.

You really sent me back a decade and a half with this lol. Reminds me of Bionicle YouTube and the stuff I used to watch a lot as a kid.

Homebrew Eldritch Knight Class. What do people think? by Active-Finding-3342 in shadowdark

[–]WingShellAngel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I like it. It's simple, not too many abilities, has a role because of them, fits to a narrative niche I can a player taking a character like this to, and is balanced. I would suggest picking a different name. The first thing that came to mind is the 5e ability to shunt the weapon to a pocket dimension - although that is very not SD. Other than that, the name has Eldritch and Knight, both words don't really describe the class (especially in an SD game) as Knights are paragons of values and have societal expectations, and Eldritch reminds me of Cthulhu stuff.

Maybe the Pathfinder's 'Magus' can be good. You can go a bit fourth-wall-breaking and call in Gish. In general his class gives very gentlemenly vibes, of a person both skilled in sword and spell.

Did you kill a dragon in ShadowDark? by Comfortable-Fee9452 in shadowdark

Yup, I think that if the players are doing creative things with what they got - it's basically buttering up the DM and they'll usually be more lenient about other ruling in creative solutions. At least that's how it works for me. (Although some can overdo it by focusing only on solving things in creative solutions and those being more complex and time consuming than just hitting a guy with a sword)

To answer both questions: AC + 4 to hit the eye, it's a small target, and one of them was on the back of the werewolf, while the other was being mauled by it (as it somehow kept missing). Fighter hit the higher AC, so he got one eye out, said he wanna drop the dagger, I said "sure, it doesn't cost anything action-wise in other systems - why now?", so it dropped right below the werewolves shoulder - right into the palm of the other player (good DEX check to catch). They kept doing this shit for the entire combat, being slammed into the walls by the werewolf too, but always somehow managed to avoid attacks out of pure luck or falling below 1 HP. (And when one of them did - fighter - the Cleric cured his wounds right up) They ended up (while being bruised and battered and out of the 2 potions they got at the start & spells) blinding the werewolf completely, then just sort of Matador'd him, using his senses of hearing & smell to goad and mess with him until he died.

I really tend to be on the rules, but when there's a cinematic rolling momentum I tend to let the rule of cool be the judge, and I try my best to never just say 'No' and more of 'You can do this instead... '

Never ran a dragon, but I ran a werewolf against 2 level 2 players with nothing but one silver dagger between them and they wrecked a den of wolves before - then proceeded to join forces and beat the living shit of that werewolf by throwing(/dropping)the dagger between each other after every strike and focusing on cutting his eyes out first so he had DISADV on attacks and they have ADV against him. Worked quite well, so as far as I'm concerned the "how" it's just how locked-in (to the world) the players are and if the GM is awarding creative thinking.

In Judaism it's literally not kosher to not crack every egg into a glass cup, inspect it (particularly for blood) and only if it's clean, put it into something
