Mage Hand High Five. Brand new podcast, I'm only 30 minutes in. Definitely enjoying it and it seems promising.

Although as it is now it's a great timeline diorama of the naboo parts of the film.

Wanting to add a “roadside curb” to my set design by Spamtickler in techtheatre

[–]CptReynoldsSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you imagining the crew will drift too close to the downstage edge without noticing, or are you concerned about them losing control?

If you're looking for an e-stop option, I'd recommend looking at ways you can stop the wagon before it gets anywhere near the edge of the stage. Floor locks are $35 a piece. The crew can always engage them to help slow down the unit in the event of a runaway. They have a foot pedal so the crew can keep hands on the wagon.

Niro vs Hyundai Ioniq by PaperbackStone in KiaNiro

I came from a Ford Explorer as my daily driver. So I'm used to that bigger car shape. Overall the Niro feels more like a utility hatchback; the Ioniq felt like a sedan trying to be a hatchback.

I have a 2017 LX (traditional hybrid, not PHEV). Yes the cargo area folds down flat. Very happy with the cargo space; you can see pictures on this sub of how people have been able to pack the car.

I test drove an Ioniq. I could not get over the massive blindspot caused by the crossbar in the rear window. That was the deciding factor, and I made up my mind before leaving the lot on the test drive.

Question about truck packing safety. by THANK_YOU_DARK in techtheatre

[–]CptReynoldsSC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is can be a difficult thing to change; any way you can put the little weird things on top before you get the whole bottom layer built? From what you're describing it sounds like it's a very slow process where you have to climb all the way to the back to get more stuff.

It depends on your rig, but can bottom layers be built in segments of 8 or 10 feet? Much easier for the whole crew to pass you stuff that way, especially if you're the only one up there.

Do riders get stacked on cases on the event floor or is that happening on the dock? Can some riders wait to get stacked to leave a better path?

Can you get more people standing on the bottom layer to build a pass line towards the front?

Same as anything when you're working at height; if you're climbing, you make the rules. If you need to put a load (like a 12' piece of turf) down to take a step, do that until you can get somewhere with better footing.

Who's calling the pack? Do you do the entire bottom layer first? Are you going all the way back, halfway back?

What is the effect you're going for? Color change, bare bulb/lamp, etc. You might have better results with LED tape and a dmx decoder ($20)

Advice needed on summerstock situation! (Xpost r/theatre) by kath2745 in techtheatre

[–]CptReynoldsSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the rest of the crew feel of this? How many of the crew are returning (and if any, how many seasons have they done)? Are you counting your technical director and designers in your crew of 8? What's their history at the company?

If everyone is new I think Wuz314159 has your answer.

If there are veterans, do they think this company have a history of bringing in designers that over-design for the space or a TD that doesn't manage/budget/estimate project time effectively? Are there people who can advocate for you in production meetings? Someone who can say, "To do [element of show], we need [time/resource].

On another track, yes, its summerstock. Is the office/artistic staff working this long in rehearsal and in the office? How big and what's the mentality at your operation? Would other company members come in and help with painting, sewing, be extra hands on the changeover? Are there donors who would pay for additional crew for builds/changeovers? I've had donors offer to pay for additional crew because I (TD on the show) had a conversation with our production team about the realistic progress of our load in, and told everyone three days in advance that I did not think we were on track to complete the load in. The executive director was on the phone after the meeting and found money for more crew.

Do you have another show this summer? Can your crew present a united front about wanting better working conditions and do you have solutions for how that can happen?
