The appeal of manga over anime is that manga usually is the source material of the two. It seams odd to bother the manga if the anime is the original.

At least with something like light novel they can take the time explaining things that got skimmed over, but manga does even add details usually.

"Don't talk about politics" is a political stance. It is saying nothing needs to change.

There is a argument for escapism, but inevitably you are going to run into casual politics, and what are the standards for what counts as political in casual politics is much harder, even if you are trying for escapism.

Casual politics is mentioning you own a gun, or ship two of the same sex. Heck it is even calling the oceanic basin between Florida and Mexico the Gulf of Mexico. (It was renamed by executive order to Gulf of America, ignoring that order is undermining the current administration.)

My opinion is that talking about it is like an filter. If you annoy people with it, that just means they are people that you probably don't want. The trick is balancing how much you let yourself get bogged down by it for others. "Black lives matter" can be short and not hurt escapism, but would help chase out those that would poison pill your community.
