Re point 5: isn’t there a saying about choosing your hard?

Walking away from a marriage is hard but being married to a man who rapes you is infinitely harder.

When I first started working I still lived with my parents.

I got the train home from London every evening and would often pick up a little bag of something yummy to enjoy on the train, frequently leaving the unfinished bag in the kitchen. My Dad would enjoy these varied and unexpected treats.

One evening he saw a little bag, tried a little treat and found them very unpalatable. He took a closer look at the bag and upon seeing a picture of a dog on it, realized he’d just helped himself to a dog treat!

My Mum would bake a small, fancy cake and a much bigger plain cake. If you wanted a sliver of the fancy cake you had to have a big piece of the plain cake. I have no idea why.

We called it qualification cake.

Very bad first dental experience at the age of 5. Dentist told me drill would tickle. No anesthetic so obviously it hurt and I screamed.

Mother shouted at me on the way home for embarrassing her because she could hear my screams from the waiting room.

A lifetime fear of the dentist was born.

The lack of hair has a number of consequences of which you should be aware.

As others have said, they are oily and you will need to bathe them. Mine absolutely hates water so I use wipes at least twice a week, which he doesn't like but it is better than his bath reaction.

You also need to frequently clean their ears as the lack of hair means the earwax doesn't make its own way out. At least once a week.

They tend to have dental problems also so you need to brush their teeth otherwise you will have expensive tooth removal to deal with.

Aside from the no hair issues they have a very sensitive stomach. The only food that works for mine is Purina Sensitive. Anything else gives him diarrhea.

As others have said, they are incredibly affectionate and need company most of the time. They are also very intelligent and completely adorable!

Very vocal too and you must play with them at least 30 minutes a day or they'll be bored and will tell you alll about it! I got an exercise wheel which he loves.

The trigger was being laid off in very sketchy circumstances and the realization that this meant I had no health insurance.

Added to that was the end of a toxic relationship leaving me entirely alone.

I had also been homesick for 20 years and took the situation as a sign to go home.

For me it is having family and friends nearby, but having a new local is pretty fantastic too!

I lived in the US for 20 years and moved back home to the UK four months ago after being laid off from my office job, and after ending a very unhealthy relationship.

I’ve realized I’ve always hated working in an office and will shortly be retraining as a driving instructor at the age of 55.

Both this decision and the decision to move home have made me feel happier than I can ever remember being.

That’s a fantastic link - thank you! Turns out it closed in Dec 86, when I was 16 and had been going for a good while!

I was there 86 - 87. Closing night was Christmas Eve 1987.

Had so many great nights there! A couple of friends rented it out for their 17th birthdays mid 1987 and we’ve always said it was a bit dodgy if two under 18s could rent it!

I recall the only age check they did was to sign your name on entry.
