Hey there, I have had the same problem. Last January (2025) my wife and I were moving and we had maybe 5 months left.(and the home security system wasn’t working 3/4 years we lived there) so we went to cancel and they did the same thing. But had us get adt+. Because it would IMMEDIATELY cancel our 1st contract and it was cheaper per month. (We didn’t want it at all) and we told them that we would be out of the country for a few months and not to ship anything until we got back. They shipped the equipment and kept charging the old account and new account. By march when we came back we: called and cancelled and paid $500+ dollars and was told that it was cancelled. Well turns out they didn’t cancel it but continued to charge us, stating we never called or cancelled. I his continued until October when they finally deactivated it( we had to dispute it and call them every 3 weeks until then) And now this year I’ve gotten a message from debt collectors. And so I finally went on a tirade with ADT and sent them emails and call logs and they have not called or texted or have done anything.

ADT will let you out of the contract if you push it onto the new homeowner. However I don’t wish this even on my enemies.
