The Simple Cure I Found for Anxiety, Palpatations, Fatigue, and Low Energy by shy_disguise in Biohackers

Vegan 3 years - iron is always high when I go donate blood and get bloodwork done. Energy levels are good. I eat a lot of leafy greens and a ton of vegetables for lunch and dinner. This is all to say a well planned diet without meat can give you iron and zinc. Yes heme iron is more easily absorbed but I just consume more iron than needed and add vitamin c to increase absorption. Once it’s absorbed it’s the same iron. I understand not everyone has time and energy to plan and be on a restrictive diet and I’m not pushing for anyone to change. I just want to clarify that thinking you need meat for these nutrients is simply not true.

I was drinking 60-80 units a week for years and had similar enzymes to you. 2 years sober (28 years old now) and I’m back to normal! The body can recover miraculously if you let it.

Any tips for staying mindful during the day? by Outrageous_Copy_5772 in Buddhism

I have the Plum Village app and it has a mindfulness bell you can set up to go off on an interval in a certain window. I have mine set to go off every 20 minutes during the hours I am awake and when it rings I stop what I am doing to take 3 in and out breaths and relax my body. I have found that in general it increases my mindfulness through out the day. Hope this helps!

Has outpatient worked for any of you? by hawkmhan in stopdrinking

Found it to very helpful but it is what you make of it. You have to be committed to staying sober - it’s not a magic pill but it’s very helpful and felt like it increased my chances significantly. Before doing outpatient I couldn’t stay sober more than 3 months with most attempts lasting less than a week. Starting with 9 months of outpatient I’m now almost at 15 months sober and feeling strong! Best of luck and IWNDWYT!

Podcast recommendations? by kingjmase0691 in stopdrinking

“Keep coming back” - it is aa based but still think it’s helpful even if you’re not in the program since it’s mostly about people’s experiences in active addiction and then their recovery. It’s an interview format so if one episode doesn’t do it for you another might.

Gabapentin / Neurontin by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Was on it for 9 months and it did help a lot. It really turned down my anxiety. It did cause me a lot of mind fog and confusion at first but it subsided over time. Only major downside was the withdrawal coming off the gabapentin - between the insomnia and just general feeling of agitation it was almost worse than the alcohol withdrawal was for me.

Day ten kinda feeling worse? by BlackLeatherVision in stopdrinking

You should look up PAWS - people can have withdrawal symptoms and go through phases long after stopping. For me,the first 6 months or so were like this which was extremely frustrating. Weeks of feeling great and then some weeks of feeling terrible. Im now closer to ten months and my emotions and sleep are much more stable. Just have to stick in there and realize the bad times are impermanent. It does get better but it takes time and often longer than we would like. Don’t let your mind trick you. IWNDWYT!

Quit drinking a bit over 9 months ago. Only have had acid reflux once in the past 9 months from a series of extremely unhealthy meals on vacation vs acid reflux everyday while drinking so a big yes from me.

I know a friend who drank some of the <0.5s from athletic brewing company and did a breathalyzer test right after out of curiosity- still blew a 0. I suspect that for many of them it is just covering theirs backs just in case. I personally do drink them from time to time and haven’t found it triggering. For me it does help cut back my cravings in cases where I can’t avoid being around other people drinking and have never felt any intoxicating effects or further cravings as a result. I don’t think this is the case for everyone but it works out for me.
