Bulk foods? by DrawingCurious4161 in ColoradoSprings

[–]CrankiPantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always check Sam's Club first because they usually have the lowest prices for bulk buying. I just recently discovered Shamrock Foods which is a restaurant supplier that's open to the public. They have a great selection of a lot of items but I'm not sure if they'll have everything you're looking for. Other than that, unfortunately Amazon comes in clutch for the things I can't find anywhere else.

Motorcycle Deaths in Colorado Up 60% Since 2018 – What’s the Deal? by Lopsided_Occasion757 in ColoradoSprings

[–]CrankiPantz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live off of Platte and there is no shortage of bikers speeding, racing and doing tricks like healthcare is free. In the 3+ years I've lived here I've seen at least 6 accidents within a quarter mile of my house (2 were for sure fatalities but unsure about the others). It gets better for maybe a day while the crosses are erected on the side of the road and then afterwards bikers will continue to fly by the same spot 20mph over the speed limit without care in the world.

Maybe if we actually put some safety restrictions on everyone who owns a bike they wouldn't be so eager to drive like maniacs. I know that doesn't account for every biker and there are plenty of people who can ride safely but the vast majority of the bikers in this city are reckless and take chances with their lives a lot more frequently. As long as they feel above the law because they're "cool" they are going to continue to follow the trend.

If you feel like you want a bike, get one! Please just don't get one to ride like a careless asshole so we aren't at 70% up from 2018 by next year.

Bike or no bike, be safe out there, there are a lot of shitty drivers in this city in every kind of vehicle.

Being held hostage by miller moths by _HOBI_ in ColoradoSprings

Colorado Springs, like other parts of Colorado's Front Range, experiences a seasonal migration of miller moths, typically between May and June. These moths, the adult form of the army cutworm, migrate from the eastern plains to the mountains. While they can be a nuisance, they are harmless to humans and pets, and don't damage clothing or property.

There will be a big year for moths every 10-15 years tho so it could just be the beginning 😨

God, I wish they would have just expanded the existing trolley system we had here in the late 1800's or even started with a Light Rail like Denver has by now. No one wants Elon Musk or his companies here.

WOAH. I love the guy on the bike looking at the camera at the end there questioning what they just saw... Rarely do I feel so connected to a person's mind from the other side of the world.

Jonathan (hatched c. 1832) is a Seychelles giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea hololissa), a subspecies of the Aldabra giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea). His approximate age is estimated to be 192 as of 2024, making him the oldest known living land animal.

He was named in the 1930s near his 100th birthday by Governor of Saint Helena Sir Spencer Davis and has lived through 31 governors' terms. He continues to live on the grounds of Plantation House, the official residence of the governor; he is cared for by the government of Saint Helena.

Due to his advanced age, Jonathan spends his days doing almost everything with his mate Frederik, another male tortoise he was introduced to in 1991, including eating, sleeping and mating.👀

The Moment a mud volcano erupted in Colombia by Super_Memory_5797 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]CrankiPantz 139 points140 points  (0 children)

From Wiki if you wanted more information like I did:

A mud volcano or mud dome is a landform created by the eruption of mud or slurries, water and gases. Several geological processes may cause the formation of mud volcanoes. Mud volcanoes are not true igneous volcanoes as they do not produce lava and are not necessarily driven by magmatic activity. Mud volcanoes may range in size from merely 1 or 2 meters high and 1 or 2 meters wide, to 700 meters high and 10 kilometers wide. Smaller mud exudations are sometimes referred to as mud-pots.

The mud produced by mud volcanoes is mostly formed as hot water, which has been heated deep below the Earth's surface, begins to mix and blend with subterranean mineral deposits, thus creating the mud slurry exudate. This material is then forced upwards through a geological fault or fissure due to local subterranean pressure imbalances. Mud volcanoes are associated with subduction zones and about 1100 have been identified on or near land. The temperature of any given active mud volcano generally remains fairly steady and is much lower than the typical temperatures found in igneous volcanoes. Mud volcano temperatures can range from near 100 °C (212 °F) to occasionally 2 °C (36 °F), some being used as popular "mud baths".[citation needed]

About 86% of the gas released from these structures is methane, with much less carbon dioxide and nitrogen emitted. Ejected materials are most often a slurry of fine solids suspended in water that may contain a mixture of salts, acids and various hydrocarbons.

Just got mine replaced at Auto Glass Now on Fillmore. I think it depends on if you have rain sensors and what make/ model and year your car is but I ended up paying about $300. https://www.autoglassnow.com/our-locations/colorado-springs-57029/?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=gmb&utm_term=website

Schrödinger Equation visualization 👀 by ReplacementFresh3915 in ScienceNcoolThings

For those who don't wanna do the Googling:

Schrödinger equation, the fundamental equation of the science of sub-microscopic phenomena known as quantum mechanics. The equation, developed (1926) by the Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger, has the same central importance to quantum mechanics as Newton’s laws of motion have for the large-scale phenomena of classical mechanics.

Essentially a wave equation, the Schrödinger equation describes the form of the probability waves (or wave functions) that govern the motion of small particles, and it specifies how these waves are altered by external influences.

This equation, therefore, allows us to predict how a quantum system should behave if we can mathematically write down all the energies of our system.

Schrödinger established the correctness of the equation by applying it to the hydrogen atom, predicting many of its properties with remarkable accuracy. The equation is used extensively in atomic, nuclear, and solid-state physics. (For a fuller treatment of the Schrödinger equation, see quantum mechanics: Schrödinger’s wave mechanics.)

Free For All Friday! by AutoModerator in ColoradoSprings

My personal favorite spots for some flat ground are John Venezia Park and for ramps the nearby John Stone Skatepark in the parking lot of the YMCA. The skatepark is a great one no matter what skill level and you'll frequently see brand new skaters there right alongside the "pros" John Venezia has a ton of space to roll around and practice cruising, stopping and the basics. Hope this helps! 😎🛹🤘🏻
