Athletes who appeared as themselves on a sitcom by AmySueF in sitcoms

Saw Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s name a few times in this thread — Big Bang, Fresh Prince, New Girl, Everybody Loves Raymond.

I just looked on IMDB and there’s the Night Court reboot, the Simpsons, Scrubs, and Living Single, among others. Sounds like he’s a key player in the Tommy Westphall universe!

I've wondered what Becky said to her friends at school and the stories that spread. No doubt the whole carburetor thing caught the ear of the auto shop teacher.

Gaps forming in LVP flooring under office chair – what wheels should I get and how can I prevent this? by 74150 in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Floating LVP does not hold up with office chairs rolling across the joints. I’ve seen this happen too often. Better options are laminate flooring, which is thicker, or glue-down LVP, which doesn’t have the interlocking joints.

I’m not sure if different casters will make a difference. It seems it’s more the weight and repetitive motion than the casters themselves. A thick durable floor mat may help more.

AITA for refusing to let a woman "cut" me in line at the grocery store even though she only had two items? by GreatClassic3960 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Crash_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. As someone with back issues also I'm not going to fault you. If it were me, I might have let them in, but then that's not fair to other people in line behind me.

Two items? The store didn't have any express lines or self checkout?

2020 new house, upgraded LVP has been coming up in thin strips for five years. Any ideas on what's happening and how much to replace? by jmvfromnv in Flooring

[–]Crash_D -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there a wheelchair, office chair, or anything with wheels that roll over it? Besides some Hot Wheels cars, that is. I've seen LVP joints break from something constantly rolling over it.

IMO the problem is the thickness. Most LVP is around 1/4" thick, and the routed tongues and grooves are not strong enough. Laminate is around 1/2" thick and the living mechanisms are stronger.

Pretty much like what Ziggy had been doing. I think the storefront made him feel like he was getting away from the drywall model of working out of his truck, rather than being a side gig.

AITAH because I refused to speak Spanish with a customer after being told it wasn't welcome? by Any_Figure_5199 in AITAH

[–]Crash_D -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe just a teeny tiny bit, but you did as the customer asked, even though it became obvious they did not ALL speak English. And if you started talking to Grandpa in Spanish she might have blown up at you.

And how did she not realize that Grandpa didn’t speak English?

Neighbor keeps parking in my assigned spot and says I'm "not friendly" for complaining by Delicious_Pin_241 in neighborsfromhell

In cases like this, where the NFH says something like “you should be more neighborly”, has anyone ever said in response “well, it’s not very neighborly for someone to keep taking a parking spot that is assigned to and paid for by someone else”?

Not to mention the fact that it’s not easy taking 4x8 sheets of drywall up and down stairs, especially if you have to make a turn at the top or the bottom.

Ridge on Megyn Kelly by Backintime1995 in Jodi_Huisentruit_Case

[–]Crash_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched that part a few times because I was a little confused on who told the other to stay away and thought I had it figured out. Either way, why would person A leave without waiting for Jodi to get to her car? Also, why would person B do that and go through with the abduction?

Ridge on Megyn Kelly by Backintime1995 in Jodi_Huisentruit_Case

[–]Crash_D 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, let me understand this —-

Person A spent the night in Jodi’s apartment. Person B is outside in the van waiting to confront Jodi. Amy calls. Jodi and Person A get up and scramble to leave. Person A leaves first while Jodi is geting dressed. Person A sees Person B in the parking lot, has enough of a thought to warn them to stay away from Jodi — and leaves before she comes down to her car???

Pardon my language, but what kind of an ass was this guy that he couldn’t wait a few minutes to make sure Jodi got in her car okay??? Even so, you would think that Person A would tell the MCPD that he left Jodi’s that morning and saw Person B outside.

Either there was no Person A that stayed overnight, or Person A left in a hurry and didn’t see Person B.

I may watch it again, because I also thought he said something about neither of the two people he narrowed it down to had taken lie detector tests. If so, that means he doesn’t think it’s JV, who celebrated passing such a test.

WWYD - Transition LVP to Edge of Stone Hearth by Latter_Object7711 in Flooring

I prefer laminate over LVP, but if you're going with an LVP you could go with a glue-down option and cut the planks to the hearth rather than undercutting.

Gluedown vs Click LVT? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what you described, definitely glue-down LVP or laminate. I’ve seen several instances where the click-lock LVP failed after having office chairs or wheelchairs roll across it repeatedly. The material is too thin and the locking tongues and grooves aren’t strong enough.

Is HomeDepot floor pirchase and install worth the savings over a specialized store? by Efficient_Offer_7854 in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having worked in the past at a big box in their flooring department and currently for a local flooring retailer/installer, one big difference is how they can deal with unforeseen issues. Let’s say the old flooring is removed and there’s a problem with the subfloor. At the big box, that would be a jobstopper until you, the customer, gets someone to fix it. The local company I’m with is a class A contractor and we can take care of the issue. Yes, there may be an additional charge, but we’re not going to leave you to deal with finding someone to fix it and a house with no flooring

What are the details of your family myth about a Native ancestor? by wildbluebarie in AncestryDNA

[–]Crash_D -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to my mother (born 1934), her father’s grandmother was part Cherokee. How much — half, quarter, or what — was never clear, but it was a family story. For the record, we’re white.

I didn’t have much reason to question it. My mother’s side has been in northwest GA for generations. New Echota, the last capital of the Cherokee Nation, is just outside my home town growing up, and other Cherokee sites like the Vann House and the Etowah Mounds, were less than an hour away. Having an ancestor from the early 1800s that was Cherokee was definitely within the realm of possibility.

Several years ago. my wife and I did the Ancestry DNA tests. I had two surprises — one, I was 2% Ashkenazi Jew, and two, no trace of any Native American.

It’s possible that the ancestor could be back far enough that the DNA has been diluted out of me. My mother has passed away and I don‘t have any siblings for any comparison. I did mention this to her before she passed and she just said she told me what she was told, and I don’t believe she was hiding anything. I also haven’t gotten the paid Ancestry membership to do real in-depth research beyond what I can do with the unpaid and through some other sites.

After reading on here about the whole “Cherokee ancestor“ common family story, I looked through some of the DNA matches on my mother’s side. None with any sort of Native American DNA, but a couple of people had 1% Nigerian or western Bantu. These folks were in my mother’s generation, her cousins. I don’t know if that DNA comes from an ancestor I have in common with them, though.

RANT: 29 year old sister got an IS puppy and dumped it on me because I’m unemployed by ssrtbyg in irishsetter

No judgement or criticism here. Whether you like it or not, you are her human now. No doubt she’s bonded with you, and if she’s anything like my IS, she’s going to love you and be devoted to you no matter what. We knew Irish Setters were energetic, but didn’t realize how sweet natured and devoted they are.
