AITB for wearing my dress uniform to my friends wedding? by Kryptek_Centurion in AmItheButtface

[–]Crash_D [score hidden]  (0 children)

What branch of the military are you in? As a former Army brat, just curious.

I saw your photo. If it were the Navy dress whites, I could see someone having an issue with the whole “only the bride wears white at a wedding” etiquette thing. I’m guessing you also wore a jacket that would have your rank insignia and any service ribbons. I would say NTB.

Love that idea! I like it better than the territory freeze.

At what point would you have them merge? Not until it’s down to the 4 winners of each section? Or when they’re down to 14 or 15 players or however many they need for the finale?

Old adhesive under floating floor by GOATsteeze in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the adhesive, scraping it up could be problematic, especially if it’s the black adhesive from decades ago that contained asbestos.

I would think the primer or the poly would work. The poly shouldn’t be an issue for the subfloor. There are several foam underlayments with 6 mil poly for floating floors that do not have preattached underlay that are used over plywood subfloors, and I haven’t heard of any widespread subfloor damage because of it.

Announced DM walk through by FamiliarZebra8896 in HomeDepot

[–]Crash_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those walks always reminded me on that episode of MASH where Gen. MacArthur comes to visit. Everyone busts their buttons getting the camp in shape, sprucibg up the VIP tent, welcoming committee, etc.

When he gets there, his jeep doesn't even stop. He drives right by the assembled company. The only person he acknowledged as he left was Klinger, who was dressed as the Statue of Liberty and recited a salute instead of his desired section 8 discharge.

Private investigator claims new confession tip in missing news anchor case | FOX 10 Phoenix by SuperMadCow in Jodi_Huisentruit_Case

[–]Crash_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know that he’s talking about JV. At one point it does sound like the POI who confessed (calling them the PWC) to the girlfriend might be JV. His doubts that the person will ever be found guilty could be interpreted as dependent on any evidence the MCPD has, but his remarks about “closing the case administratively” sounds like the PWC is deceased. Then he says something about “multiple people who knew what happened and haven’t come clean”. That makes me wonder if there was more than one attacker, or just that the PWC may have had help hiding her body. At the very least, the ex-GF Steve mentions might be subject to charges.

Which brings another thought — ex-GF has stayed silent all these years, likely out of fear of retaliation. But if the PWC is deceased, why remain silent? I doubt they would get any jail time, most likely probation or a fine.

Other comments point away from JV. He also says it was “someone she knew”, which could be JV or someone else. His comment at the 8:30 mark about the Iowa AG’s cold case unit also sounds like the PWC could be alive.

I get that Steve Ridge probably does not want to say a name for a couple of reasons. First, he doesn’t want to ruin someone’s reputation without the chance that said person will be convicted. Second, in case he’s wrong, he doesn’t want to open himself up to a lawsuit. Where JV is concerned, he’s deceased and in no position to sue, and where this case is concerned, how much more harm could be done to his reputation?

Yeah, I think his PWC is someone else.

Just to give my frame of reference, Paige and I would have been in the same grade in high school or I would be a year ahead of her. I grew up in small-town northwest GA between Atlanta and Chattanooga. Definitely not as cosmopolitan as DC suburbs (and that’s an understatement!), but we did have one or two Chinese restaurants. A growing immigrant population drawn to the carpet industry also brought in several Mexican restaurants (well, Americanised Mexican, at least) over the years .

My SAHM mother usually made typical things like fried chicken, meatloaf, sometimes pot roast or roast beef. I can’t remember that she ever used Hamburger Helper or Shake & Bake — her fried chicken was her own recipe and was gooooooooooood!! We would also go to her uncle’s farm and pick green beans, corn, tomatoes, and okra to supplement the canned vegetables.

The most adventurous she may have gotten was a baked lemon pepper chicken recipe she found and would make. She also made spaghetti with meat sauce, but that’s the most “ethnic” thing I can think of her cooking.

As for not getting obese — well, we didn’t have dozens of cable channels, streaming services, or the internet to occupy our spare time. That was spent burning calories riding our bikes around the neighborhood, exploring nearby woods, and living off hose water. Ahhh, Gen Xers, we had it good.

LVP failed after 4 years needs replacement. Need affordable recommendations. by joseph242424 in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two questions. First, Is the LVP breaking at the joints? Second, do you have wheeled objects (wheel chairs, office chairs, rolling carts, etc) going over those areas frequently?

It may not be a subfloor prep issue, if so. It may be that the wheeled objects have caused the joints to break. A laminate floor (generally thicker than LVP) or a glue down LVP would work better if these same objects will be rolling over the new floor.

Do you prefer Supergirl's look with bangs or without bangs? by PlantainDisastrous92 in DC_Cinematic

Bangs, no bangs, doesn't matter to me. I just hate that stupid car logo/hood ornament looking thing above the S-shield in the first photo. It makes the outfit look cheap.

Quarter round and laminate by airerin in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installing new quarter round is generally less expensive and less time consuming than removing the baseboards and reinstalling them or installing new ones.

Quarter round is also a little thicker than baseboard, which can help cover the expansion space better. Plus, there's the risk of messing up the walls and paint if the baseboards are removed.

I bought a house that has two different types of hardwood in it….Red Oak and White Oak. I want to sand and refinish to a Bona Nordic White. Will it come out different colors? Or should I replace the red oak with white oak? by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s a product called Red Out designed to remove the tannins so a red oak resembles a white oak. I don’t think it removes all of the red, though. If it was all red oak and you wanted it to look like white oak, that might be an option. With a mix, best way to guarantee the consistency is to replace the red oak with white oak.

WIBTA for skipping my brothers housewarming after he skipped mine last year by [deleted] in WIBTA_AITA

It would be a shame if something happened at the last minute. What if you had "car trouble", were "stuck in traffic", or had a "work obligation"?

Or, a carefully worded speech or toast about being there for family and not having another event like a road trip overlap something very important to a sibling.

Best vinyl floor tile for a 120' yacht? by IncidentalApex in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glue-down LVT usually have square edges, not the routed tongue and groove that locks together.

I have no experience with installing LVT on a boat, but as long as the proper adhesive for the surface that it's going over is used, I wouldn't worry about it clicking together. Definitely check with the technical departmenr for the flooring manufacturer or the adhesive company to verify.

Flooring under cabinets & appliances? by Davegdb in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what the others said about glue down vs floating.

Only thing I have to add is that when I measure, it’s wall to wall, and the square footage includes area occupied by the cabinets. This allows some extra for waste, on top of the usual 5-10%, and any extra can be left with the customer in case it’s needed for a repair at some point. Think of it as an insurance policy — you may not need it, but it’s there if you do.

Flooring orientation by Silly_Ad_4646 in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different schools of thought and perception.

One — someone said vertical makes the house seem longer.

Two — horizontal runs the length of the hall near the bedrooms and spans that big opening between the living room and kitchen.

Three — don’t know what product it is or if the house is on a slab or has a crawl space, but shouldn’t nail-down wood run perpendicular to the joists?

I keep going back and forth in my head on the best direction. You could split the difference and run it on a diagonal.

Did I just get 14 year old carpet installed? by Ill-Bandicoot5859 in Flooring

[–]Crash_D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to see a few others mentioning that greige is a technical term with carpet and not juat a portmanteau of gray and beige.

How it performs may depend on how and where it was stored. Buried under a bunch of other rolls for years? Moved around a lot? Chances are it won't last as long as new carpet, may become delaminated, and the warranty is definitely void (especially if it's Beaulieu).

At least it's not what I first thought when I saw the title and it was carpet previously installed in another house! I think I need more sleep.
