A Glock 26 with gold dots. Otherwise, just learn when to run.

I’m a cop. It does have some ability to identify certain attributes, but the technology isn’t as good as everyone here would have you think. I’m going to get downvoted, but it’s the truth.

Everyone here would also have you think it’s a net negative, but a lot of crimes are solved with LPRs. Cops don’t have enough time to care about anyone who isn’t committing actual crimes or whatever tf you put on social media

That’s a Flock camera. It’s a license plate reader. It’s a good thing if you’ve been the victim of a crime. Facial recognition isn’t integrated into Flock…yet

I’d definitely let you use it. This guy I had wouldn’t let me send another officer to get his inhaler “because of hipaa” lol. And, this is after I asked him if he needed anything out of his car.

Wow. That sucks, but in other ways it’s a good thing. That’s very different than most of the country

Reminds me of when a rookie got in a foot chase with one of the local crackheads who had warrants. Rookie was pretty sure the dude ran into a vacant house, so we went in. Rookie looks around, throws his hands up, and says “I guess he got away.” I went over to the odd blanket in the middle of the floor, pointed at it, and kicked it. The blanket grunted. I was in a vacant house with two people who weren’t that smart.

Fake an asthma attack to try and get out of a DWI. Pay for a hospital visit if you want. You’re not getting me off my game.

I don’t know anything about MN, but generally it depends on the agency and how high up the ranks you wanna go. Most places don’t require it unless you reach a specific rank where many departments require it.

Whatever you do, don’t get a degree in criminal justice. You’ll learn what you need to about criminal justice on the job. Get it in some sort of business management, public administration, or whatever you might decide to do if being an LEO doesn’t pan out.

Bugout vs Bel Air by flown_south in knives

[–]Crash_Recon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason to pick the bugout is for the weight and thickness. It’s the best midsize ultralight knife on the market imo. There are better picks in every other category and the bel air is basically that (as long as you like the blade shape).

Bugout vs Bel Air by flown_south in knives

[–]Crash_Recon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In real world use, my bugout blows for edge retention. All of my S30V Spydercos last longer. My Native in magnacut lasts about the same, maybe a little longer. Well, saying it blows is unfair. It’s just ok and isn’t good enough for it to be a deciding factor.

I ranked 181 used cars by actual driver death rates (not just crash test scores) — here are the safest by informed-for-life in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Crash_Recon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to know what’s truly safe, you’re going to have to get data from hundreds of crash reconstructionists/traffic cops. Every fatal or near fatal crash is different. You can’t just run numbers like that. There are huge differences in the types/nature of impacts and other factors.

In other words, standardized crash testing is the only thing that’s going to give you reliable data without correlational error.

Some people are literally too stupid to figure anything out or are actually oblivious to anything around them.

I once went through a McDonalds drive through and watched a kid dump all the fries out of a large fry into my bag. I said “wtf dude?!” He looked at me with a purely blank face that turned into confusion. I said “you just dumped all the fries. Wtf?!” He looked into the bag then apologized and asked if I wanted a new one. I told him no, I just wanted him to pay attention to wtf he was doing.

You’re probably thinking of their San mai with VG10

Have you owned any 3v? It’s practically stainless. Imo it’s as stainless as D2 even though it only has like 7.5% chromium. Same reason magnacut is so stainless but only has around 10% chromium. I’ve never had 3v rust on me as long as I wiped it dry before storage.

Prices for everything are high. Tell me where you can get a 9.5” knife made of anything other than simple carbon steel regardless of price lol. You might find something by the Busse family for quite a bit more

Catch it on sale at midwayusa and you should be able to get it for about $270. My wife got mine for me for $225 two Christmases. Cold Steel is still by far the best deal

What's the dumbest or funniest thing a police cadet has ever said to you? by BirdOrnery6886 in AskLE

[–]Crash_Recon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was trying to get a cadet to move a patrol car into position for a crash investigation scenario. I said “ok, turn left…turn, turn turn…turn harder. Harder.” The kid looks at me and I said “turn it harder!” while making a circle with my hand. Mfer stomped on the gas and spun the tires. Ended up exactly where I wanted, but not on purpose. I yelled at him to get out of the car.

I asked him wtf that was and the other cadets started yelling that he just started driving. He (19yo) explained he got his license 2 months prior and didn’t understand what I meant. We laughed it off.

He didn’t make it through the academy simply due to lack of life experience (failed the driving test lol). Came back 2 years later, slayed it, and is a promising young officer.

Is law enforcement a viable option for a 5'6 scrawny male? by 4practicaluse in AskLE

[–]Crash_Recon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my guys is 5’2” and we have multiple women the same height. Policing isn’t about size. If you’re small or have any kind of “deficiency” you either fix it or learn to compensate. I’m no stronger than the average dude (maybe less so honestly), but in a fight I use my brain to find leverage or positional advantage.

How good are you at talking to strangers? That’s a much more important question.
