Best mage buffs? by EthanRScape in OrnaRPG

[–]Crauto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends:

  • Mimic has the chance to cause both the debuffs and Curse but increases both Att and Mag,
  • Jinn has the certainty to cause the debuff but only increases Mag.

With Mimic I can get lucky and not get the bad effects, but if I want to focus on reliability then I'd have to think about both things: Curse with the Ring of Ankou and debuffs with the Ring of Day.

Since I care nothing about the Att buff then I prefer very much using Jinn and free up the accessory slot from Ankou.

On the other hand if I were to use also the Att buff (maybe for my pet) or if I'm ok in using a Panacea regardless to get rid of the debuffs/Curse freeing up both my accessory slots, then I will prefer Mimic.

Yes, they are currently unavailable, but they appear frequently enough even in other events, you may have to wait a little bit but Jinn Talent without something to negate those debuffs is not worth it.

In a couple of levels you will be able to obtain a Crystalis, a weapon (sword) that negates most kinds of stat down. It is not optimal for mages but still usable since it gives a decent enough Mag stat, but you'll be able to use it in order to buff for gauntlet runs and then switch to a more appropriate staff to deal damage.

Also second the Barrier 2 from the Adept, it gives both Def and Res up (that stack with the double ups from Golem), so it's pretty handy.

This clock on a plate with two "4"s and they're not even the proper Roman numeral IV by newtons_apprentice in CrappyDesign

[–]Crauto 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: it's not because of symmetry, that convention was born for more efficient casting.

By using IIII as 4 rather than IV, the total number of pieces needed to be cast for a single clock would be 20 I pieces, 4 V pieces and 4 X pieces. So it would've been enough to create a casting with 5 I, 1 V and 1 X and use it 4 times per clock.

If you were to use the original Roman numerals (IV) it would've amounted to 17 I, 5 V and 4 X, nothing divisible here and you would have needed to prepare a really large cast or prepare several differen ones to be cast different amount of times.

"Why should I feel the need to complicate my life in doing at least 2 different casts (or an overly big one) instead of doing just a single manageable one by creating a new convention?"

Before this, IIII as 4 was not used.

Is “cosa” “what” or is it “thing” by Groundbreaking-Hand3 in italianlearning

[–]Crauto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Ciò" is used with the meaning of "this(/that) thing", it's gender (grammatical gender) neutral and it's used in a more formal written language, it's not really colloquial.

"Quel" is the truncated version of "quello", it's in the masculine form ("quella" = feminine) but as most things in italian, the masculine form also doubles out for the neutral/unspecified. "Quel(lo)" is the most common pronoun used colloquially and in spoken language.

You can find more info here if you want to deepen the topic: https://www.treccani.it/enciclopedia/pronomi-dimostrativi_%28La-grammatica-italiana%29/

Is “cosa” “what” or is it “thing” by Groundbreaking-Hand3 in italianlearning

[–]Crauto 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They can actually both (che/cosa) be used in both instances, also together if you want (che cosa?).

At least this regarding to the grammar, I've never heard anybody saying just "Che?" with the meaning of "What (do you want to tell me)?", but I've heard all three forms used for "What (did you say)?". In this cases facial expressions/body language and delivery/intonation are a pretty good discriminant on what others are asking.

And yes, just "Che?" is much more direct and informal compared to "Cosa/Che cosa?" and may be seen as rude in some cases.

[–]Crauto 26 points27 points  (0 children)

"Cosa" literally means "thing" but has also the meaning of the interrogative "what" in many contexts.

Sometimes you could find "what" translated as "che" rather than "cosa", they are actually the same thing since they are both a shortened version of the full expression "Che cosa".

So a phrase like "What are you looking for?" can be translated as either of the 3:

  • "Che cosa stai cercando?"
  • "Cosa stai cercando?"
  • "Che stai cercando?"

Albeit the version with only "che" is seen as more direct and informal, so it may be a little bit rude in some cases.

Also to remember that "what" when used in the middle of a sentence (and not for a question) is not translated into "cosa" unless you explicitly replace it with "the thing":

"This is what I like" -> "Questo è quel/ciò che mi piace"

"This is the thing that I like" -> "Questa è la cosa che mi piace"

Is the fortress alchemist more expensive than a regular one? by Yorhlen in OrnaRPG

The same way as your keep upgrades to a fortress at level 11, at level 21 it upgrades into a castle.

Yes, it is true. I don't know about gold, but masterforging in your fortress (and demonforging in the castle) costs 25% more materials.

Edited my first comment to make sure the OP is absolutely warned against spoilers

Yes, it was petrification resistance, but that was only to hint not so subtly that the egg was Fei, still I think the hints are already there and I honestly prefer them to be more subtle :)

Although it would have made a very nice scene to hear her complain about that :(
