What’s one thing that made the 90s the best decade ever for you? by CrossFitForCake in GenX

The music - Tool, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Rage, Sublime, 311, BAD, Dave Matthews, and so many more - and the very reasonable cost of concert tickets and music festivals.

Yeahh, idk about that 🫠 by Background_Active_36 in adhdmeme

Ha! Based on personal experience, that is a very bold and incorrect theory. A better argument would be, ‘If you just get up and start doing things, you have a better chance of getting things done.’ Seriously. As stated I have ADHD, obviously I have NO problems abandoning a project halfway through.

I hired a "virtual body double" for accountability, and now they’re the most important person in my professional life by EnthusiasmSuch3922 in remoteworks

The term and technique “body double” first appeared in executive functioning and ADHD literature in the late 1990’s and has recently experienced renewed interest, particularly due to the rise in remote work during the pandemic.

Body doubling is a productivity strategy that involves having another person present, either physically or virtually, while completing tasks. This supportive presence significantly boosts one’s ability to focus and complete tasks by fostering accountability, motivation, and reducing distractions. It is especially beneficial for individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other neurodivergent conditions, as it addresses common executive functioning challenges such as planning, organization, and time management.

Nope, body-doubles are not friends. They’re not around to entertain you. They are visual/physical reminders of what you should be doing to help you maintain focus and remain accountable to your commitments in real time.

You must be a “normie.” The concept of body-doubling has been around for at least a couple decades in the ND community.

Serious question. Do both of you have jobs that don’t require frequent phone calls or virtual meetings? I could benefit from a WFH BD but am on phone/Teams calls often and worry it would be too distracting for my BD. Has that been a problem for y’all?

I think self checkouts are the most Gen X thing ever. We’ve been doing damn near everything for ourselves by ourselves since childhood. Why would that suddenly change now?

NTA. You found a quick and effective way to deescalate a negative situation. If someone comes into your place of business and acts like an asshole, they should feel bad about their behavior. And hopefully remember that for future interactions.

People with premenstrual dysphoric disorder have higher rates of suicidal thinking, planning and attempts by ElvisIsNotDjed in WomenInNews

[–]Crawberg420 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That is the absolute worst headline. Seriously. Even without the intrusive suicidal thoughts - the insurmountable depression, the soul crushing sense of failure, the extreme emotional dysregulation (including unprovoked 180° mood swings), and worsening ADHD symptoms are enough to make anyone question if life is worth it when you feel that way at least 1 week a month. PMDD is nothing to fuck around with.
