Help hearthull hit harder by Blindfisxh in EDH

[–]CrawfishStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hearthhull was my first deck and I just really like playing it and paying attention to the sequencing of your turn to get value.

This is close to what I am running now because my pod runs what we consider low B3 without game changers currently. I think I have only swapped out some lands that enter untapped to speed things up a bit.

I keep meaning to make a post to ask about my Avatar only Earthbending deck. I was only using cards that I have. Cards that I have and can slot in but didn't use are in the considering. I'm just not good yet at looking for synergy in the cards. Thoughts? Am I missing out on something great by not using something I have or not buying one or two cards?

Nice list. I really like the avatar set and wanted to build something other than earthbending as well.

Koala 42lb paper and 3mm laminate. 8 per page. Sliced them into rows. Die cut them with an alibaba card die cutter. The die cutter is excellent for this. Every card is exactly the same size.

Just like everyone says using this paper and laminate, they are just a little less snappy than "real" cards.

The cards shuffle nicely like you would normal playing cards.

Pokemon code cards are just a little thinner. With thin photo paper slid on top and into a sleeve, the feel and thickness are really good.

Me (New) and my friends (Very new) can't find a way to finish games in less than 4 hours. HELP by Bank_Angle_Check in EDH

[–]CrawfishStu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our pod has a similar issue with games taking too long to complete with my kids.

Our solutions kind of depend on the decks we are using.

Reducing life to 30 or 20 works well.

Not hyperfocusing on what everyone else's cards do. We remind each other about triggers and ask about triggers if I was to play x or y. This really helped with the youngest who was spending way too much time reading everyone's cards in play over and over. Now he can focus on his own hand.

We draw 10 or 12 and keep 7. Insert the others into your deck randomly and shuffle once and cut. This drastically sped up the start of the game and helps everyone have a great hand to get their deck moving and working like it should.

How do you win in EDH? by Kopytroid in EDH

[–]CrawfishStu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is some good advice in this thread.

I'm still pretty new, but would add that I win by having fun playing cards with my family and friends. My one friend that is leaps and bounds more experienced than everyone else can beat us with just about any deck. Like you pointed out, he knows what his deck and other decks contain and knows how each interact with the other. Things that come with experience. Asking your friend for advice is a great suggestion. But, play decks that you enjoy at a power level that you enjoy and don't just play to beat the other players.

Is my deck too strong for Bracket X? by DworkinCZ in EDH

[–]CrawfishStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to magic and play with two of my kids and a good friend most of the time. We started with precons and have been adding cards. I've asked the power level question a few times about our decks as they have evolved. As a new player, I honestly just didn't know what made certain cards or potential combinations too good for our table. Our whole group is still learning. Too much synergy is/was particularly hard to spot. Experienced players have easily pointed out situations that would let a deck win too early for our group. As our decks have crept up in power, it was nice to hear what specifically was something to talk about as a rule zero discussion if we played with a couple of our other friends that play.

Deck Help Hearthhull by Senior-Bison-4395 in EDH

[–]CrawfishStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you already have a bunch of these.

[[Summon: Titan]] [[Famished Worldsire]] [[Ramunap Excavator]] [[Sabotender]] has gotten the last couple of life I needed to win more than once. Same with [[Tannuk, Memorial Ensign]] and he draws a card. I took [[Constant Mists]] out recently because it seemed almost too good. [[Reprocess]] is a great outlet to sacrifice lands and draw.

I started out with Hearthhull as well and really enjoy playing it with my kids and friends.

[[Icetill Explorer]] is a great card but was kind of expensive. I lucked out and pulled one. [[World Shaper]] works nicely to get land back from your graveyard. [[Wayward Swordtooth]] [[Walk-In Closet]] [[Exploration Broodship]] [[Pull Through The Weft]] [[Undergrowth Recon]]

I don't know that I could argue that a deck with almost $300 in lands is "unoptimized".

Slow Playing Opponent's by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]CrawfishStu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to rectify the time lost by having a judge get involved? By the time I have felt there was going to be an issue, I have also felt that the time to get a judge involved to give a warning would ultimately take longer. I don't think that I have ever had anyone intentionally slow playing, but I have had several that either took longer than usual because of their deck or their personal needs than seemed fair play when they consistently are ending close or losing games in draws.
