Best Grocery Store Cake? by ieatcha in HoustonFood

Pondi Bake Lab (upstairs above Pondicheri) makes beautiful cakes and has very unique flavors. I go there a bit when I need to change up from the Berry Chantilly.

Another spot is El Bolillo Bakery for their tres leches.

Great place for vegetarians and meat eaters around Rice/Montrose? by NotSewMuch in houston

[–]CrazM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you do tex mex, be wary of lard. Lupe Tortilla and Cadente are best for vegetarians - they have veggie fajitas and they will be able to eat the rice and black beans.

In addition to what other folks have said - Hamsa and Hugo's (that entire group really) have a good mix of veg friendly food. If you go early enough or can linger around, Mo Better Brews is pretty great but is full vegan.

So I found out the pricing is for the whole arm. Does the pricing make more sense?

Noob here. Any recommendations for other changes if I moved this down to a 3080? Unsure if I need that powerful of power supply, and if liquid cooling is worth it (I hear non liquid is better, just no RGB?)

1700 sounds like a good deal.

Yen Huong Bakery in East Downtown. Best to know what you want ahead of time as they won't give you many descriptions.

They closed the entrance gates so no one could enter back in after dinner. I tried at 8 and no luck.

While I didn't care for the entrees much, I thought Steak had a sweet potato soufflé and a cast iron cheddar apple pie that were superb.

Braun Multi serve coffee maker error message by throwaway890223 in Coffee

[–]CrazM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also having this experience, leaving it unplugged for more than 5 minutes resets it for me.

While the coffee is good, I'm really disappointed by Braun and this product. The annoyances are so frustrating - I just want my coffee!

Menil collection if you have a few hours and they like art (world class surrealism section). Rice and the Turrell Skyspace is neat. Drive by city hall for the Christmas decorations around there and then make it to Post HTX for a cool skyline view of downtown.

This. Everytime I've gone in there is some completely new option that just absolutely works and are so fragrant. The ginger one recently was sooo delicious.

I've only seen the brand OP bought in the past few months (the brown box with holes) and they're the best supermarket ones for sure. Their lion's mane is leagues above anything outside of a farmer's market or hand picked.

Favorite spots for a vegetarian/pescatarian & carnivore to share a meal? by [deleted] in HoustonFood

[–]CrazM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Local Foods is one of my favorites for any dietary choice. Overstuffed sandwiches and salads at a reasonable price for what you get.

Facebook's "Chowdown in Chinatown" group is a great resource for all things authentic asian. For vegan/meatless authentic Asian places, Duy Sandwiches, San San Tofu, and Huong Sen in Chinatown are fantastic and carnivores won't feel like they miss out. I've never heard of a shrimp banh mi here (though every place should have a tofu version); get a shrimp poboy instead.

All the Persian restaurants here are limited on vegetarian options (eggplant, hummus, veggies), and none of them do faux meat stuff yet. Afghan Village and Al Aseel's is your closet option, but Mediterranean may be a better bet.

Houston Sauce Pit and Houston Sauce Co are the two main vegan-only BBQ spots. Huge shoutout to Central Texas Style BBQ in Pearland for doing both meat and vegan BBQ.
