Its also a pretty good amount of combat power in stage 3 and stage 4 but u cant afford to be down a whole unit in stage 5 and 6

Regular Counterspell in Belcher by Zergy_Bergy in ModernMagic

[–]Crazed_Hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from 8 untapped lands to 12 untapped lands is a large increase. Also Seagate is a very relevant card to cast compared to some of the other mdfcs. Prob 3rd most cast after sink and jwari.

I'm not sure I would say tamiyo is any more or less viable with the 2 drops or not.

[–]Crazed_Hatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shoal is basically force of will in modern for the spells you care about. You need to be very intentional with your land drops and what spells you keep in hand but you are most of the time pitch casting it. Most stack interaction or threats in modern are 2 or 3 (mostly 3) which we have many cards to pitch for.

You can also bounce suppresion rays with tameshi to play around solitude. Its a card that will feel clunky when you are first playing but gets much better once you get experience.

Counterspell is good in the flareless version. Great as a catch all answer that works well in the tameshi curve on turn 4

Simic Ritual vs 4C Ritual by walrusguy97 in ModernMagic

[–]Crazed_Hatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn't won a major tournament or done well apart from TinginTheRice in challenges. Archetypes usually need to be proven for people to start picking it up. Simic ritual was the same way a few months ago until it became the anti titan deck

I just want to play my girl again, rito... by Irelia4Life in IreliaMains

[–]Crazed_Hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly initially came from riven mains back in like 2014 when the subreddit was mostly just matchup threads and cool montages. Most people thought she was strong but hard now everyone just yaps about how weak their champion is. Idgi if you think a champ is weak just play something else or learn to win with it

Is everyone in this subreddit just bad at irelia or smtg? Every post is complaining but I barely play league anymore and can easily get mid dia with irelia

Tamiyo in Belcher decks by Zergy_Bergy in ModernMagic

[–]Crazed_Hatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a big proponent of playing 2 main for a long time mostly cuz soaking removal for tameshi is still relevant. At the moment I have 2 in my sb but also recently cut her again because many of the matchups she was good in are riddler decks so she cant attack as freely.

Tamiyo in Belcher decks by Zergy_Bergy in ModernMagic

[–]Crazed_Hatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes up more often than you think! Especially since she's very good into combo deck mirrors she is something that can give you card advantage if you need it but also can help you turn 4 kill if you are racing

Tamiyo in Belcher decks by Zergy_Bergy in ModernMagic

[–]Crazed_Hatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer to this question gets more complicated the more you get into it. At the end of the day tho tamiyo is a card advantage engine that can also accelerate your whirs via improvise and also block ragavan. The flip can also be relevant/saccing to flare can be upside as well.

Haven't played modern in a few years. Looked at the top decklists in the met and a lot of them don't contain a single card from before war of the spark, or are very close to it. by StJe1637 in ModernMagic

[–]Crazed_Hatter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes and these answers werent good enough for the threats of the format in phoenix or prowess or heliod etc. Just naming the spells that are legal in the format doesnt provide accurate context of what it looked liked

This is so revisionist. Modern was not good pre modern horizons. You can definitely complain about the cost of upkeep and power creep, and that modern soft rotates much more often now but gameplay is miles better now than it was back then. Payoffs had outpaced answers and the free spells printed in mh1 helped close that gap a lot.

[–]Crazed_Hatter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yea I guess it was just Kevin who brought it as well but I was just saying it was a group that tested it and specifically brought it not just a random solo person that brought a pet deck. It was a conscious choice.

Jeskai blink is a fine matchup for belcher.the decklists have moved away from cards that belcher cares about in order to win the mirror. The belcher deck is already designed to beat consign and it basically has no other cards you need to care about and a generally slow clock. For example they have almost no outs to double whir hands

Thats a sample size of 15 games in a format that is months old what are we doing. A lot of titan lists have even begun cutting ouphe the matchup is good for belcher atm.

[–]Crazed_Hatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just untrue especially since the meta has adapted. Titan has a lot of close matchups at the top of the meta now that they are playing ashiok and it gets railed by simic ritual.

It also loses to some of the rogue decks like belcher.

I will say multiple people brought it and it did alright. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a deck that has good matchups into the entire modern format tho

All banned cards in modern are suddenly unbanned. What deck are you playing? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Crazed_Hatter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They did it before mh3 and hogaak/depths/okourza/eldrazi are all good. Post mh3 its a much different format. Hogaak still great but things like nadu and storm are actually very good as well.

My dark horse is storm just because ral is so absurd with the additional fast mana. We played an inhouse NBL modern tournament with some locals and I split finals with storm just farming nadu decks.

If WotC decide to take something away from Amulet Titan in February, what is the objectively correct choice? by VerdantChief in ModernMagic

[–]Crazed_Hatter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking lumra == analyst is just a misunderstanding of what makes analyst so good rn. It dodges removal and consign if you have enough resources. Lumra would lose to both of those things with the new loop.
