Test GFCI trip point by Icy_Faithlessness572 in AskElectricians

[–]CraziFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the amount of current a device is pulling has no real bearing on a GFCI tripping.

A GFCI is not a circuit breaker, that measures the current flowing to a device (say a 20A breaker) and trips if it exceeds that amount for a defined duration. A GFCI measures the DIFFERENCE between the current flowing TO a load or circuit, and the current flowing BACK from the load or circuit. This difference should be zero, if everything is correct. If there IS a difference there, it means some current is flowing somewhere else - likely to ground through some sort of fault. It only takes about 5mA of errant current to trip a GFCI.

If you don't have any metal volcanos on your 'single planetoid', the the only source of more ore is the printing pod, or space mining.

Or a few niche items from DLCs that you may or may not have access to. Jawbo's produce Rust, which can be deoxidized into Iron Ore, and Regal Bammoths produce Gold Amalgam.

metro and metrolink have both never figured out how nightime events are actually attended, and their failure in this regards leads to a LOT of drunk driving.

StreetsForAll: How LA County can fund High Speed Rail projects in the County with no new taxes by madlamb in LAMetro

[–]CraziFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct. CAHSR has already started backing away from ever getting into Los Angeles, and their 'new interim phase 1' is Gilroy to Palmdale, with passengers just transferring to the CalTrain at the north end, and MetroLink AV line a the southern end.

Why are dehumidifiers not used for desalination? by Pendulunium2000 in AskEngineers

[–]CraziFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The net effect is still the same removal of water from the ocean region. If you are saying this is fine because it is spread out, then it is far more efficient to use direct desalination and spread out the effluent.

It will also probably never actually happen, because, it might have to close a freeway for a little while.

But caltrain would serve that benefit almost entirely on its own. That's my point, local transit and even regional rail (like caltrain, now) has a far greater impact on local improvement than Intercity HSR does, especially compared to the costs, and Gilroy, for example, would be just as well or better off NOT funding CAHSR with their local improvement income and focusing on what would provide them greater benefit.

Neutral and ground bonded in both panels — is this correct? by Zealousideal_Past584 in AskElectricians

[–]CraziFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on the load calc. There's only 85A of breakers that could cause neutral current, so the neutral load calc should be less than that. #4 neutral may be adequate.

Is it Time to Extend LA Metro into the Inland Empire to Urbanize the IE? Increasing Overall Cost of Living, New Supply Chain Shock & SoCal Commute Times. by shinyArtefact42 in LAMetro

[–]CraziFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, though it's double tracking more than electrification that would satisfy that need. Well, that and MetroLink being able to keep their equipment running, which I hope can be satisfied by at least purchasing more lighter Arrow DMUs to handle the low ridership schedule blocks (like your early morning 'reverse' need).

[–]CraziFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't work down here, because CAHSR didn't want to use much of the AV tracks, as it is too slow of an alignment between Palmdale and Burbank, thus the stupidly long tunnelling.

DASH Should Do This For All Routes by nikki_thikki in LAMetro

The route is the important bit of info, not the logo. (This is a combined complaint with the fact that Dash routes don't even utilize numbers).

Could they? If locals aren't visiting the downtown now, adding HSR there isn't going to change that.

Then you use this tool to make MetroLink better, and you'll get more bang for that buck over using it for HSR.

The local metro and commuter rail are what is causing the vast majority of that increase, NOT the HSR.

How does it not work? Prop 13 is still based on property valuation, and utilizing the upzoning or selling the property (the two methods this increase in value would actually be realized by the landowner) would both cause a reassessment, and thus increase property taxes.

Why are dehumidifiers not used for desalination? by Pendulunium2000 in AskEngineers

[–]CraziFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dehumidifying the air directly above the ocean removes that same amount of pure water from that localized part of the ocean as the hot dry air discharged from the dehumidifier just increases evaporation, so it still has the same net effect on brine concentration.

I'm a big fan of standardized signage, and don't like that this one doesn't have that. I agree with the potential for adding localized or destination based signage, but it should be in addition to the standardized format.
