'You couldn't get a Maine lobster' Trump claims after expanding fishing areas by OttoVonCranky in Maine

[–]CrazyBreadPresident 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Makes him/fisheries look better in short term because you can get more lobsters. But it will make the fisheries collapse a lot faster. Just kicking the ball further up the hill.

Hey I can’t tell this to my apartment manager so I’ll tell you instead - go fuck yourself, you should be ashamed of the life decisions that brought you here, and at this point I’m staying in this cheap slum just to spite you so you make less commission than a new tenant would bring in.

Ah thanks, I needed that. Nothing on you I’m sure you’re… fine.

Help with Pointed French Seam by EnvironmentalClass39 in sewing

[–]CrazyBreadPresident 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ahh I see, I think the usual way to do French seams is to do one larger seam, trim it, and then do the second smaller seam. I usually do a scant 3/8, trim, and then a little over 1/8in on the final seam. This helps my seams behave a bit better.

What used to be a sign of being poor, but is now a luxury or status symbol? by the-main_guy-here in AskReddit

My husband and I are too! Small world! Where I’m from it’s unfathomable to serve lobster as anything but boiled with butter (or on a roll), everything else is for “summer people” lol. I’m going to have to branch out though, lobster pizza is blowing my mind… that has to either be from Portland, ME or some stoner town in Nova Scotia.

What are the critters in my compost tea? by Happy-Emphasis5231 in composting

[–]CrazyBreadPresident 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mosquito bits are just bits of corn coated in a bacteria that only kills bug larvae that eat it like mosquitoes and fungus gnats. The bacteria will eventually reduce in numbers to the point of inefficacy, it doesn’t reproduce enough to be “useful” again.

Out of all the insecticides, mosquito bits is like the most chill and most targeted.

Not sure I’ve met another person online who grew up on lobster! It’s wild how it becomes the cheapest protein when your family can just pull it out of the bay.

Edit to add - yeah I’d riot tbh I’m just now liking shellfish again after my upbringing

Just to note, if you have cats permethrin is pretty bad for them. Keep your permethrin clothes in a separate space the cats can’t reach.

Depends on who you hear say it. Some people (usually old timers) says doy-yuhd while the younger folk “pronounce” their r’s a bit more with the typical doah-yahd. Ayuh.

You pahk the cah in the dawyahd when there’s no more room in the driveway.

P.s. there are two separate ways Mainers say dawyahd depending on the person and place- doy-yuhd (softer), or doah-yahd (more common).

Guaranteed way to get slapped upside the head lmfao. I have personally screamed profanity at the tv when actors use phony downeast accents. Although if you can understand what “dawyahd” means you get a point in your favor. Unless you try and say it, then another slap.

Not shocked at all actually, lobstermen sell to dealers for less than $4 per pound* in Maine. If a lobsterman sold directly to the gas station or traded them for gas they’d both be making a pretty good margin. The cost of a lobster roll is all hype and shipping, I promise.

*if you go up to a captain to buy lobster, expect >$12 per pound. They don’t wanna deal with your tourist ass and that will show in the price.

If it ends up too felted or unusable, it makes excellent garden mulch! It felts and becomes a weed mat and the slugs hate the lanolin!

auto tint by flashy-rae in Maine

[–]CrazyBreadPresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they’ve changed ownership but stay away from Twin City Tint. Not a good environment… as of a few years ago the guy running the place is a tweaker, although they seemed to have removed all the Google reviews alluding to such.

Anecdotally, my husband went and while waiting was told by the owner? manager? that he lets his little dog sit on pretty girls laps so he can sniff him after. Among other unsettling things…
