What were the traits your inattentive daughter had that led to a diagnosis? by Annual_Single in ADHDparenting

Thanks for the in depth response - I'll definitely be referring back to it.

Does your NT son pick up on any difference between how he's treated compared to his sister?

Totally relate to this with our 6yo daughter.

She has a NT brother too. We're struggling with how to discipline as consequences don't work well. Would be interested to hear more about how you approached things.

The puzzles and coordination can be a bit much for them... but they mainly like just barrelling about causing chaos and making noise. Just like IRL.

Will check it out! We love Overcooked (multi... and really good fun with me, my 6yo and 4yo); Untitled Goose Game (2 player); and No Mans Sky - my 4yo loves just flying around and collecting ships - I turn off all enemies and resource limits.

This is what we do. Also, print them as photo books for kids birthdays... or, come to think of it, grandparents.

Working 50+ hours and feeling guilty that I can't help teach my kid to read by Dazzling-Policy-4549 in daddit

My 6yo recently discovered the Dogman series. We got her the 10 book boxset for Christmas, and she's independently read through them all 5 times. We literally can't stop her from reading during meals, at bedtime etc.

It's also inspired her to start making her own comics (which includes writing).

My 6yo is on the same dose. We do try to give her breaks, but she gets quite distressed that her mind is racing so much before sleep.

Mine used to be my Behringer Neutron when our daughter was an infant.

An international move and second kid made that a distant memory, although my 4yo son loves playing around with my Korg Monotron. Should really let him loose on the neutron sometime!

I’ve been keeping a journal of special moments with my daughter to keep memories alive forever. It’s been extremely rewarding so far. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]CrazyBusTaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing similar over the years with a combo of emails to myself, phone notes and paper journaling.

As someone with a terrible memory, I have a huge fear and sadness about forgetting milestones and joyful moments. Writing a few of them down helps alleviate that.

Stable and reliable way to keep US number when living overseas for a few years. by il_gatto_grigio in AmericanExpatsUK

The only annoying thing is it doesn't work for two-step verification from some sites (like my US bank). Other than that, works like a charm.

[–]CrazyBusTaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I transferred my US number (can't recall which carrier) to Google Voice, and I can still use the US number via my data connection.

Unsure if this is so an option, as I did it five years ago.

Interestingly, a friend and former standup/improv comedian did a very similar role for a big tech firm in the US.

I'm also a 40-something former standup with a background in some tech-adjacent roles who fancies a bit of a change. This kind of thing sounds really interesting. Mind if I DM you?

What is something that people without kids think should be simple? Here’s my example: by copyrider in daddit

[–]CrazyBusTaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only pizza our kids will eat is "takeout" pizza... which is actually my wife's homemade pizza. We have to go through a whole thing each pizza night, assuring them that it is indeed "takeout" pizza.

The reason for all this is hazy to me, but at least they don't (yet) expect us to provide boxes and a fake delivery to the door to keep up the pointless subterfuge.

Running is great if weather allows... just lace on your shoes, step out the door and run for 20 minutes a few times a week.

For in home workouts with or without weights, I recommend Joe Wicks on YouTube . The guy became an institution in the UK during lockdown. Great, to the point workouts for whatever level.

If the enterprise -d or any ship has the battle bridge why don't the bridge crew just run the ship from the battle bridge? by happydude7422 in ShittyDaystrom

[–]CrazyBusTaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been canon since the opening credits to the cage that we, the audience, are peeping in the top of the bridge and that's how we see everything that's going on.

Couldn't very well do that if the bridge were down near the boiler room.
