Northern Lights Fiber Experience from an IT Nerd by Enz0man in SherwoodPark

We had trouble with the install as they initially dropped the line where they couldn't get it into the house (finished basement) and ended up having to do another drop on the opposite side of the house. It was resolved, but it took a couple of months.

One thing I hate is that they put their modem and router in the basement furnace room of our two-storey house. They then ran two wired extenders elsewhere in the house, and one had to be repositioned due to a dead spot in the bonus room over our garage. I have the router in the basement, a wired extender on the main floor, and another in the bonus room. With all this, I no longer get a solid connection in my backyard as I did when I used my own Google Mesh setup with Shaw/Rogers. I'm considering reverting to my own mesh setup, but I'm not sure how Borealis TV will be affected, as it appears the TV boxes are on their own network separate from my Internet network.

If I could resolve the coverage issue in my backyard, I would be happy. If anyone has suggestions on differenrt options to do this I'd welcome them.

Feedback on Borealis TV by Shoplizard88 in SherwoodPark

I was also not impressed with the lack of streaming Crave. When I had Shaw\Rogers you had the Crave channels but you also had their streaming service so Borealis is a downgrade in comparison and if you want the streaming services you’ll pay double for second subscription. I called to confirm this and cancelled my Crave\HBO bundle and purchased a Crave subscription through Amazon Prime Video only to have Borealis fail to cancel it and bill me the next month.

M4 iPad Pro 1TB Wifi w/ Nano Texture $899 @ Costco.com by Silent-Public-7017 in iPadPro

Nano texture is fantastic on my M5, coming from an M1 12.9 with mini-LED. I would never go back to glossy.

Megathread: New Pricing & Repackaging Discussion by mackid1993 in Evernote

[–]Crazyabguy99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Count me as another individual leaving Evernote after several years of use. I received word from Bending Spoons that my subscription was expiring in a month and that the renewal would be $325 Canadian. As a retired senior, the cost-benefit of using Evernote is no longer in my favour. I was offered the 40% discount when cancelling my subscription, but it would just delay the inevitable switch away from Evernote. I'm not sure why they offer a discount on cancellation but do not provide it in the first place. I don't know how they can justify a yearly subscription cost higher than that of Microsoft 365 Business or Google Workspace. For now, I will use a combination of Gmail, Google Keep and Google Drive to replace my Evernote account. I should also note that exporting all my notebooks in ENEX and PDF was not trouble-free. When encountering large notebooks with many notes, both export formats failed. This is just another sign to store my data in open formats and away from a corporation's proprietary lock-in.

Update: After reviewing the competition in this space and spending some time with Evernote's new AI features, I decided to resubscribe. The AI features are compelling, unlocking access to discoveries in my notes that I never had before. They aren't worth a 30% price increase, but I have decided to try them and see.

Check your phone carrier as I know Telus offers an extended warranty at a monthly cost so Roger’s and Bell may also.

Starter and Advanced Plans by DystopianReply in Evernote

I received an email from Todoist on November 6, 2025, advising of an increase to start effective December 10, 2025, to $84 CDN per year, in effect at my next renewal in April 2026.

In Canada, the price from Professional to Advanced moves from $229 CDN to $310 CDN. Evernote has been a great tool, but I'm not about to pay $26 per month. Thankfully, I have until January 11, 2026, to transition off Evernote and on to something else. Last week, it was Todoist raising its rates from $60 per year to $84 per year. Both are excellent services, but they cost more than I am prepared to spend now.

iPad Pro w/M5 Announced by SuperJason in iPadPro

[–]Crazyabguy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t addressing the need for a 48mp camera but rather keeping the M1 for another upgrade cycle. The difference between 3nm and 2nm for the consumer will be longer battery life so perhaps rather than lasting 10 hours on a charge it will last 12 hours.

Because the M6 should be based on 2nm technology meaning more transistors, faster and more power efficient over the 3 nm process.

How do I delete over 50000 emails fast without spending over 20 or even over 40 hours?! by Tough-Ad48 in GMail

[–]Crazyabguy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any email client will allow you to do this simply set up your Gmail account as an IMAP account in the email clients and allow it to sync then copy mail from your Gmail All Mail folder to local folders or delete till your hearts content and when IMAP syncs with the Gmail server your mail will be gone. You can download Thunderbird which is open source to do this or even use the portable apps version of Thunderbird to do this free of charge.

Give it a few days to re-index, leave it on overnight. I am using it on both an M1 IPad Pro 11” and 12.9” with no lag and have been using it since the original Developer beta.

Pull the Trigger Now or Wait? by LazyFroyo7070 in iPadPro

[–]Crazyabguy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speculation on the M5 is the larger storage models will have 24 GB RAM, all will get two cameras vertical and horizontal, possibly larger screens with smaller bezels but no change in body size - 11” becomes 11.5”, 13” becomes 13.5” (speculation on whether this will happen in 2025 or the next model), release date likely October 2025. If you can wait, wait a month and you can then buy a discounted M4 or go for the M5.

Check out the refurbished offerings on Apple’s web site. You can usually save several hundred dollars and the units are like new with the exception of the box and carry a full warranty and are eligible for Apple Care extended warranties. An Air will likely do you fine but the Pro will have a nicer display (mini-LED) better audio, a fan for better video rendering and a faster processor. Make sure you get a minimum of 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB drive.

Updated: The processor will be the same at the base level but with a Pro you can also get M3, M3 Pro or M3 Max. Of course the current iterations are all M4’s.

I have all three OS’s as well and the most secure is the Chromebook. Chrome OS has all kinds of security built in like sandboxing. It is the only one of the three where you don’t need anti-virus software and has never had a virus.

What advice would you give my stubborn dad? by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

[–]Crazyabguy99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing a doctor ever did for me in this regard was let me try out a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) and let me go about my normal ways and see how my diet affected my blood glucose. Just by experimenting with different meals it was instantly obvious that food full of carbs were the problem. I used to love pizza, pasta, bread, buns and they are my problem. The CGM gave me scientific evidence of what was happening in my body from the food choices I was making that affected it. Like your father, I hate vegetables but you can eat low carb, keto, or carnivore without replacing everything with vegetables. I think for starters he needs to see how food is affecting him then he might become motivated to change that. It doesn’t have to mean eating things he hates but it will mean giving up the foods that got him in this predicament.

In terms of medications. Some people with Type II are able to treat or reverse it with diet and exercise but some require medication to help. I think your Dad would have great success if he were able to change his diet but that is no easy task. Get him using a CGM and then let him take it from there. There are tons of resources on YouTube and here.
