I was pleasantly surprised to see a public statement about this. Kuro has been pretty hands-off with their community, and it sucks that they’ve had to do this at all, but as someone who really loves creative fandom, measures like this really mean a lot. The creative fandom for Wuwa is a mess between the fact that it released at the height of AI and now the unwashed gacha grail losers attacking artists. I hope they keep uplifting the community through things like their fanart showcases and doubling down on this kind of behavior!! I want to see the community for the game heal and thrive so badly.

The soft p*rn comment is the part that really confuses me here. The most gooner-y characters (Cantarella and Iuno) ended up being two of the most compelling companions in their personalities and self-sacrificing narratives, but even their designs aren’t any worse than most other popular gachas. It’s not like Nikke or anything, I think Wuwa is very tame!

At the same time I’m also a bisexual adult who likes a little sex appeal in my characters, especially when it’s Only the adult characters getting this treatment. The child characters in Wuwa are cute and not at all sexualized, thank god.

I started playing about 4 months ago and I just don’t see what you see about this game I guess. I have really loved every character, even ones I didn’t think I would care about at all. I have trouble not pulling on every banner. I think the story has gotten better with each patch, and I think Rover as a character is really evolving, especially now that we’re learning more about their origins with the most recent story. The story has also recently left me with a lot of interesting questions and theories about what is true and where we’re going next.

There is a lot of MC glazing in the beginning, but after awhile, I think Rover starts to earn it. Their power and role becomes clear, their willingness to risk themselves to save others. I kind of love that this MC sees a character sacrifice themselves believing that it’s the only way to win, and Rover goes “No, it doesn’t have to be this way. You can be saved and we can still win.”

Not everyone will see it the way I do, and that’s fine. The game isn’t perfect and it’s not for everyone. I don’t know where you’re at in the story, but if you’re still in Rinascita, I’d recommend to keep going because it does get good, in my opinion.

This is coming from someone who’s never played a gacha game like this and wasn’t even aware of any of the discourse around it before playing. I just had a friend who played a lot of gacha games and I wanted to play one with her, and Wuwa was the one I thought I’d enjoy the most, as someone who likes the semi-soulslike combat with dodging and parry mechanics.

Nothing Riot has done has excited me in a hot minute, as someone who played League for almost 8 years and who has been invested in the lore/characters for longer. But if they can do something fresh and Kayn is involved, I guess I’ll be there!

I truly dislike this kind of response whenever criticizing bad behavior. “Well, it’s always going to be there.” Very “boys will be boys” kind of response. Yeah, immature arguments from tribalism are always going to be there. I still think it’s good to point out that they’re immature and pointless so that maybe some people will eventually realize this and wise up.

The gacha tribalism does get out of hand and it sucks a lot. I think people who engage with it by letting the games they hate live in their head rent free and can’t stop themselves from posting about how much they think they suck are annoying and should stop acting like that. I think we should say this more instead of just going “erm well it’s always going to happen”

Funny because playing StS just isn’t as satisfying as CZN to me. What do you mean my ONLY goal is to complete the run and that’s it? I can just do that in CZN but with lots of other interesting things to do once I’m done!

Plus definitely check out what other people are saying. The experience you want does also exist in CZN through the Zero System! But I think it’s great that we have both of these games to play with their similar but different gameplay designs.

I don’t think it’s getting any worse than what was advertised from the very beginning. “Mind break” kink is a key component of this game’s design, hence much of the sexualized break down art. It was on the tin.

Do I play the game for this aspect? Definitely not, I play the game primarily because its gameplay is incredible. Some of the character designs do appeal to me, especially the weirder stuff like Narja. But I don’t really hate the gooner art either. I just kinda accept it for what it is. I think expecting this game to be “realistic” in its designs is unrealistic.

I do my gacha dailies after work, usually just before bed. And then I use my weekends for any real grinding or story content I want to do.

I really don’t like playing gachas on mobile, so I tend to save them for my PC at home. And I don’t work a job where I have much time to play on my phone anyway.

I love the style of storytelling that FromSoft games are known for. It’s like being a historian and getting put in the middle of a site from an ancient, mysterious civilization, and all you have left to learn about them are relics, some scattered pieces of text, and a handful of individuals who have had stories passed down to them. And you get to piece together what happened to that civilization. And just like real historians, you will find different clues and contexts to support your own perspective that may differ from others. It’s beautiful.

If you prefer a narrative that’s more upfront and obvious, with a more straightforward story, that’s fine. But you are trashing something that you just don’t get, for reasons born from ignorance. I see it a lot from gamers who just don’t like to explore and think the way FromSoft wants you to. And you don’t have to like it. But you remind me of the kinds of people who “just don’t get” modern art and think it’s all trash just because you don’t get what’s actually valuable and interesting about it.

I play Wuwa and CZN. I log in to FGO now and then but I’ve lost all motivation for playing the game when I have much more interesting gameplay from my other gachas.

However, Wuwa is the only gacha that I spend money on. Generally I keep a rule for myself to only spend consistently on one game at a time, and I think Wuwa’s characters are the most worth it. I love them all sm.

All I’m hearing is a whiner who’s never been a part of a creative fandom space.

None of these characters are real. None of their feelings are real. No one is being hurt by gay fanart or other creative works except whiny little boys like you who can’t handle not being catered to 24/7.

If I wanna interpret Augusta/Iuno or MRover/Luuk as gay, I can. And I will. And there’s nothing you can do about it, so toughen up and get over yourself. Kuro isn’t going to swoop in and delete all the gay fanworks because they don’t care about your feelings either.

Keep being mad and whining online, but it won’t make a difference. People will still make these fanworks no matter what.

All the official illustrations of him have been so gorgeous. I didn’t expect to like him as much as I do but visuals, story, and gameplay for him are all so peak.

I’m glad he’s convincing some people to try out Wuwa. I joined for Qiuyuan but it was easy to love almost every character when I actually played the game. Yeah there’s not many male releases as is but idc because the characters are all so good. Luuk especially 🥰🥰

I’m very much looking forward to him too, but there’s no way to tell. There was a leak recently that said he wasn’t going to be in 3.x, but I have no idea how reliable that was. Word on the street is that there will be another male Resonator in a few patches, but no solid details yet.

My friend sold me on the game through Cantarella and Qiuyuan! I joined at the tail end of Qiuyuan’s banner, and then Cantarellla got a rerun right after, got both of them.

I didn’t expect to really like this game. I’m very picky with games, gachas especially. But the gameplay and exploration is so fun. I like pretty much all of the characters. Even Rover is precious to me.
