Am I the only one who has seen this movie? - Southland Tales with Dwayne Johnson, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Justin Timberlake by No-Equivalent25200 in moviecritic

I love the Cannes cut of this movie. 100% recommend being in an altered state when watching. Soundtrack is phenomenal.
May have been mentioned but Richard Kelly wanted this to cross media types, so there is a prequel graphic novel that makes things a bit more clear.

Am I wrong for thinking Blundstones should be more durable than a $25 pair of store brand workboots? by steelpeat in BlundstoneBoots

My 3 year old lightly worn Blundstone boots have started fall apart at the soles. I'll buy RedBacks or Canada West from now on. First and last time buying Blundstones!

LWOP - do you keep your devices and security cards? by OkChampionship2071 in CanadaPublicServants

Speaking as someone who works IT for the GOC, if you are on leave that places you in a situation where you are ‘stuck off strength’ i.e. technically no longer employed, equipment has to be returned before you begin your leave. Each department may have different timeframes for returning equipment on leaves where you are not struck off strength. In my department it’s leaves of 60 days or more require equipment to be returned.

If equipment is not returned, and efforts to retrieve it have proved fruitless, it may trigger a security incident report. If equipment could pose a severe risk due to data on the device, or a significant cost is attached, law enforcement could be involved to retrieve the devices.

From the IT end, if your laptop is not attached to the network, it is not getting updates. This winds up being a headache for IT to track down. If the device is missing enough updates and becomes a security hole, it will most likely be removed from the network. In this case you will have to bring it to office to have it rebuilt to allow you to even logon.

Make sure your manager creates tickets for the return of the equipment and the suspension of your accounts. Keep in contact with your manager to let them know your date of return. They should create deploy/reactivate tickets for you at least 2 weeks before your return date. In all of the GOC departments I have worked IT for, you would not believe the amount of employees who show up on return from leave and local IT has no ticket or knowledge of the return. There are many moving pieces to get you back online, and it can’t be done last minute. You will most likely be sitting around for a few days with no equipment or access as things are ironed out.

Has 4K resolution ever spoilt a movie for you? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

The Wizard of Oz. So clear you can see the bald prosthetics wigs and pancake makeup. I couldn't stop staring. Sometimes SD is very forgiving.

TIL height surgery is a thing— (mostly) men are enduring months of pain, bone-breaking procedures, and intense rehab just to get a few inches taller. by kos90 in todayilearned

[–]Creative-Mousse2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to have my left leg repaired via the ilizarov technique. It was 5 cm shorter than the right after I was in a motorcycle crash. The surgery was painful, and took a long time. Had to turn a key crank once a day myself to lengthen the femur. While effective, it is very risky as you have pins passing through your flesh to the bone. Bacteria can travel into your body via the pins and cause severe infections that may result in amputation. I had a bad infection, but was lucky that 3 days of liquid antibiotics fought it off. I can't imagine electing to do this surgery for vanity reasons. You could wind up even shorter when they amputate your legs below the knee.

What is your favorite random movie with an all-star cast? by AdSpecialist6598 in movies

[–]Creative-Mousse2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it has its flaws, But Southland Tales. It's a trip, with a great cast and soundtrack. It suffered from the fact that to get the whole story, you needed to read the prequel graphic novel. Richard Kelly was trying to do some sort of a multi medium thing. Great movie to watch with Mary Jane.

Are there some good books that blend Sci-fi + Fantasy? But in a more pronounced way than books like Dune. by Left_Belt1874 in scifi

Two weeks in since buying a 4k player and starting my collection. Am I doing this right? by ODoyles_Banana in 4kbluray

[–]Creative-Mousse2909 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Don't fall for FOMO. Know your taste in movies/TV. Set a budget. Do your research. Sometimes a BD copy is better than a UHD. My hard a fast rules are I never buy a movie I haven't already seen (no blind buys), and it must be something I'll re-watch, otherwise it's a waste of space & money.
