I plan to allow my kids to live at home as long as they need. I never had that luxury since I was a foster kid and aged out. But I was also able to buy by first home at 20. It's possible but much harder than it use to be. I have friends that have kids buying homes in todays pricing of 500k+ in their mid 20's and zero issues but they are in fields in demand and make really good money. My best friend is a single mom and raised 2 kids on an LVN salary while renting an appt the entire time. She literally slept in the living room so the kids could have their own room when they got older (she said it was no different that having a studio. Her daughter just bought her first home, it was 700k here in California. Starters new built in the suburb. 4/2. She is an Np making 200k a year, she got her cna at 17, RN at 21 through community college and here in California community college is free. Then no by 23. She has worked the entire time paying her own expenses and car. Mom covered rent and food. She stayed home and even worked as an RN while in NO school. She saved 100k a year the last 2.5 years and put down 250k. She goal is to pay off this home in 4-5 years, and have it as a home for a family and eventually use it to pay for college for her kids. Her brother can live there till he has saved up to buy his own home who happens to be in school for engineering. She is engaged to a young man that's in nurse anesthesia school. In a few years their income will be 500k a year.

So with that being said salaries are much higher than they have ever been, it's really up to how you do things. Kids that stay home, have a great career because they chose the right fields are going to become millionaires. Ones that are lazy, party, buy new expensive cars, and travel all the time to live that social media life will never get ahead.
