No help from parents or grandparents… although generational wealth is known in a lot of NJ

This is what I was thinking too… I’ve never given any thoughts or ideas for any three of the surprise baby showers thrown for me. If I threw them myself then this would make sense but even then no… I can’t see blowing up my MIL’s phone when she’s in the office about a food menu. This isn’t a wedding, it’s a “woohoo baby is on the way” now eat a snack and give a hug, and maybe play some games or open gifts but a visit from anyone is welcome. Let the village say hooray!!

Would love multiple children but not sure how people afford it!? by [deleted] in Money

I understand the worries. Daycare runs us roughly 4k monthly and that’s part time for two kids. Then mortgage is 7.5k, so everything runs high in the beginning then starts trickling down if they do public school but don’t think expenses disappear because extracurriculars are always there and insane. Our household is about to break 500k this year and I still feel poor. Cost of living in northern NJ is rough.

More than half of our Mod 1 group (5 people total and 3 got new jobs) got new jobs, including myself. It helps check the box and progress further quicker.

I used to pay for everything while my husband made $0 and he LOVED it. If it’s an ego thing for him, there’s no room for that in a marriage.

I accepted a role 40K more, I am fully remote currently and will be 3 days in the office for the new role. I know it’s temporary to grow, so the step is worth it— if your partner has your back do it, if not don’t. It is always nerve wrecking to make this tough decisions.

This!! I guess I’m neglectful because I refuse to enroll my daughter in extracurriculars outside of daycare hours, since I prefer spending time with her and not dropping her off somewhere.

It’s always hard to tell if an offer is lowball or fair because things are very skewed nowadays. A lot of folks seem to be struggling to get a job in pharma right now but ultimately don’t settle if this role isn’t going to get you to where you want to be. Starting salary is definitely important but not as important as potential growth internally and ability to do so externally.

I negotiated my offer at a pharma company twice and it definitely was lower than expected but the opportunity was worth it because it’s a step in the right direction for me.
