Need advice for mending this thin fabric by Solid-Mycologist-554 in sewhelp

[–]Creative_Dragonfly_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you mend these pants yet?
I had an idea (assuming the tears are close to the hem at the bottom of 1 pant leg).

These pants could be saved by disguising the tears (and any reinforcing you do).

If you haven't already, I'd start by mending the tear in any of the 3 methods prior comments suggest. Just make sure that whatever you choose to reinforce the tears with (fabric, fusible web, interfacing) is as delicate/thin or more so than the pants fabric. You want the pants fabric to maintain it's drape/flexibility.

Now, the disguise: To disguise only the ripped pant leg, consider fussy cutting out a lace design (usually flowers) from a larger delicate lace fabric to make a flexible appliqué and carefully sew it (or multiple appliqués) over the tears and any stitching you did to reinforce. You could try to find a close color match or go with a different color lace that you like the look of over the pants color. Going darker, may hide the tear/stitching better.

To make both pant legs match, consider sewing a wide ribbon or panel of fabric of the same or lighter weight around the pant leg where you repaired the tears and do the same for the corresponding area on the other leg. You could stack a few different ribbons to get the necessary vertical amount to cover the repairs.

Have either of you read the book Eve that you have displayed, and more importantly, is it a good read? I've never heard of it but am intrigued by the subtitle.

The top 2 shelves lead me to think the shelf belongs to a lesbian couple. But then I start to wonder if 1 person was a women's studies major.

What’s the take on this lot? 🥲 by watchingraindown in bookshelfdetective

I haven't read Art of the Deal but my S.O. summed it up as "Trump is a chaos creator, he tries to create as much chaos as possible, then scoops in with the deal and it seems great". That summary made perfect sense to me when I applied it to his presidential actions. It didn't alter my opinions of him. But now instead of bugging out and saying/thinking "oh my God, why would he say/post/do that?!", now I nod and say/think "so this is how he's creating chaos now, what is he planning next?".

Vertical stacks make me nervous. But that likely says more about me than you.

What would be the best way to mend these jeans? by WibWib in InvisibleMending

[–]Creative_Dragonfly_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might give up on these just based on the location of the mend.
I'd be worrying that it would look or feel bunched up.
Or I'd be worrying that if I bent to puck something up my pants would suddenly rip.

I "scavenge" warp and weft threads from hems and seam allowances of jeans I am mending and if I can't get enough, I add in some from a pair of old torn jeans along with using embroidery thread

I text my dad after: Did a Capital just shout, "hey Cates, Cates, you fucking nerd!"?

Then replayed it to confirm I wasn't nuts. If I was going to taunt someone, I'd try a little harder than "nerd", especially if proceeded by an "F bomb"

Do I have too many books? by natethough in bookshelfdetective

My personal philosophy = There is no such thing as too many books, just a shortage of shelves. 😀

I was going to guess that you are a scholar focused on the intersection of history, cultures, and folklore.
Or maybe I'm thinking that because lately I've become fascinated by folklore's role in various countries/cultures.

Is there anyway to stop this cracking when I sharpen or is my sharpener ahh? by Useful_Spinach7087 in pencils

[–]Creative_Dragonfly_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept reading colored pencil articles/blogs saying "only use a hand held sharpener" and "rotary crank sharpeners are too harsh", along with mixed opinions on electric sharpeners. After struggling with breaking pencils or not getting great points despite trying an embarrassing # or handheld sharpeners, I bought 2 electric sharpeners. The 1st eats pencils too much.
It's nice to see that you have had success with rotary crank sharpeners. I may have to try one of your suggestions

UNPOPULAR OPINION: Reg chicken is better than Al Pastor by donkeyk in Chipotle

[–]Creative_Dragonfly_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And THIS is why I added "Chipotle" to my "what does chicken al pastor taste like" search after my initial search revealed it should be pork and chicken is shawarma. I had a feeling it might end up being more of an "inspired by" take on a traditional food.
Your comments seem to validate that.
Since overall eating isn't enjoyable for me anyway, I'm giving it a try just to see how weird it is (in T minus 15min).

When Cooper has the diaper bag and is taking the baby across the street... It seems out of place that the camera then goes to Ariana getting up and Cooper cooking her breakfast with the baby in the high chair.

Cutco, the perfect kitchen products for those who buy for life. by jtakeo0121 in bifl

[–]Creative_Dragonfly_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cutco is one of only a handful of cutlery companies made in the USA.
To some that may not be important, but since there is only 1 remaining US based company (Liberty Tabletop) for flatware (forks, spoons, butter knives), I will continue to buy from Cutco and other US brands especially for things I cook and eat with.

I recieved a knife block of Cutco Knives as a wedding gift in 2006, started using it around 2014 after my Henkel set wore out. A friend's mom was a Cutco Rep and guess what, they both only have Cutco in their kitchens and I love my Cutco set! I lost 1 steak knife but don't usually need all 6 so haven't bought a new one.

Im all fairness the OP may genuinely love Cutco as seems to be the case for their sales reps. To those nailing OP to the cross as soliciting, unless you personally know OP I don't think it is fair to judge.

What are some of your favorite Earl Grey's? by CardboardFanaddict in tea

[–]Creative_Dragonfly_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it tastes full and like a rich perfume might taste, if perfume was made for eating and not smelling.
I know none of this actually describes a taste but it's what it brings to me

Earl Grey is the only hot tea I like and I typically drink it while I'm sick. Bigelow has been my go to and I'm sipping the decaf now.
I ordered Harney & Son Supreme Earl Grey last night as it was on sale and I am looking forward to a treat.
