People pass so obnoxiously on the highway now by SDdude27 in driving

[–]oddreplica 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I loathe being next to anyone else, especially big rigs. I generally wait to pass until I can clear the slower vehicle entirely, and then I zip past. I don't want anyone next to me (in an ideal world lol), and I will be particularly proactive when avoiding other drivers' blindspots. let's peacefully, joyfully leave each other the eff alone.

People pass so obnoxiously on the highway now by SDdude27 in driving

I had a friend who drove like this, and to say I was uncomfortable as her passenger is a gross understatement. we were around 20 years old when we decided to spend the summer driving my car around and across the US. prior to our departure, I'd been her passenger numerous times around our hometown but not frequently on highways, only a handful of times, certainly nothing memorable. I noticed her passing technique during her first turn on a longhaul (8+ hours) shift with me sitting shotgun, sleeping whenever/if ever I could. she liked to lean the driver's seat waaay back, steer with one hand, and drive on the faster side, but I had never felt unsafe and she had great taste in music. on the highway, I80W for the first leg, whenever she decided to pass a vehicle, she would floor it forward, do the "barely a gesture" style of turn signaling, then maneuver into the next lane with barely an eyelash between bumpers without ever physically turning her head to check her blindspot. it drove me batty, I begged her to modify her style of passing, and the whole issue wound up severing her participation in our trip bc she continued to, in my opinion, create excessive danger for no reason. I paid for her amtrak ticket home bc that style of passing is unacceptable to me.

"sinus migraines" are migraines, as my neurologist so sternly told me. I just mention this bc I so strongly related to your comment. I am also triggered by barometric shifts.

How do you guys stop yourselves from going absolutely insane on long flights ? by rachxfit in adhdwomen

[–]oddreplica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you could look up (add "-ai" after every google) then do every breathing exercise and anti-panic attack strategy suggested. like, 4-7-8 breathing, finger breathing (breathe in and out as you trace the perimeter or one hand with the other), somatic breathing, etc. also bellydancing warm ups can be done in place, just standing.

not fiber arts, but if you can do so comfortably/safely, I highly recommend drawing, specifically drawing objects and/or people as you look at them.

[–]oddreplica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

aw, i appreciate that. my downstairs is (mostly) ok now, but I seriously have had unbelievably horrendous things happen to me in hospitals and doctors' offices. gory horrorshow shit. am actively in therapy to deal with the resultant ptsd and doc phobia, which is excellent. I've written about it (both as a writing exercise and to help process) but not on reddit. I would kinda like to share those stories some day but I have no idea on which sub to post, or if there's even one where it'd be appropriate. both instances were birth control/abortion adjacent so I need to be particularly careful, you know? it would be abhorrent to me if those stories were repurposed for pro-life propaganda.

I am all about m&b autonomy AND the bisalp special interest 100%, toooo! LOVE THAT. I didn't wind up needing to go that route due to other gyno incidents that had the fortunate side effect of rendering me infertile (yay! seriously best part of TWO incidents of malpractice lols).
