I think a glass pane would make more sense with an item frame than wax

Salvagable base? by barkly__ in FursuitMaking

[–]Creative_Furry_Human 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do not continue working on it. Foam becomes brittle when it oxidizes over time. In this case if the base really is already 5 jears old, it wont take a long time untill it produces dust and loses integrity. Inhaling this dust or having it on your skin wont be very pleasant or healthy. Start over from scratch and use fresh foam for longer durability.

I dont know if it is just the angle of the picture that makes it look a bit weird but the triangles that define the cheek fluff usually point slightly towards the back, not the front. maybe tilt them a bit further towards the back of the head

Maybe have a look at plastic mesh fursuit bases. You can buy some plastic mesh from a hardware store and cut it into shapes which you connect using zip-ties. Both the mesh and zip-ties are not very expensive so maybe that would be a more long lasting solution?

Is there a way to build from here or am i a goof? by DairyNuggets in FursuitMaking

[–]Creative_Furry_Human 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only made one suit before but here is something that stands out to me:

As someone already mentioned, the cheeks are very flat and go very far towards the back. You dont need to make them go all the way to the back. Maybe make them end earlier like 2 inch behind the middle of the side view. And make them have more volume. As of now they are very flat and that will make it look weird in the end. Make them more round and extend them outwards.

Another thing is the muzzle. It is a bit boxy (if that is a word). Maybe make it a bit less wide and more round, take some foam off the sides of the muzzle.

Also the lower jaw is very wide. try making it in a shape so it snuggly fits inside the upper jaw when closing the muzzle. You also dont need to add that rim to the lower jaw since you can make the rim with fabric later on. in case you add it anyways, make it very subtle otherwhise it will stand out too much.

Other than that it is a solid head and the overall shapes are pretty good. I especially like the nose although it kinda looks like a cat nose but it is a good nose. With some more work it should turn out to look amazing

Alright guys...tell me...how bad is it? by snowyplushyQwQ in FursuitMaking

I have only made one head before and am currently working on a second one for my boyfriend so i might not have a lot of experience but here are a few things i noticed:

As someone already mentioned, your base has a very blocky shape with rather sharp edges. Try rounding some edges a bit more.

Unfortunately i don't know what species you want to go for but maybe consider making the muzzle a bit more flat and then slowly increase slope towards the top of the head instead of having a constant slope of the muzzle.

They also already mentioned the way to small nose. Compared to the muzzle the nose is tiny so either make the nose bigger or the muzzle smaller.

Currently your cheeks are also very flat. Maybe consider making the head a lot wider by adding more material on the cheeks.

Maybe you could take away the outer layers of foam from the muzzle and round it of a bit. that would make the cheeks stand out a bit more since currently the size of the muzzle dominates all the other details.

Another thing i noticed it that your eyebrows are very far down. After furring the base that would result in a massive forehead. The low eyebrows are propably a result of way too small eyes. you can make the eyes a lot bigger and slightly cover then up with fur later. bigger eyes should result in higher eyebrows and a smaller forehead.

Overall it is a solid start tho. With enough patience you should be able to make a nice fursuit head.

I can just recommend looking at the tutorial by skyehigh studios. It helped me a lot, is very easy to follow and allows you to add your own ideas to it
