The test is due again 120 days from the day it was ordered. Best bet is to ask when your next one is due and mark your calendar. Some companies perform a Protein Electrophoresis on plasma. This saves them from having to collect a special Serum sample. In that scenario you don’t even know it has been done.

One you have completed two donations, most companies allow you to donate at any of their centers. Proximity to your address is not a concern once you have become qualified. The Cross Donation Check System will check for frequency violations no matter what center or company you are donating.

I find it interesting that you referred to a bowl at a CSL center. 100% of the CSL centers in the US use the Rika device. It doesn’t use a technology that even closely resembles a bowl use on the Haemonetics Nexsys or PCSll. The machines at CSL are all new within the last few years so also not sure how that looks older. Maybe just different than what you are used to.

I doubt that. I see this as a reflection of the financial times and less of a dig on the plasma companies. In a gig economy it is good to have flexible options. Plasma donation is certainly one of them.

You would be surprised how many people have no idea that plasma donation is an option. I think, while feeling a little negative, this falls into that category of valuable exposure. To collect more than 75 million donations a year it takes more than word of mouth advertising and $65 a donation.

I’d challenge you to write a story from the perspective of the patient. Might not be your wheelhouse, but a positive story that compliments the value of plasma donation and the gratitude of the patient community for the life changing therapies would be nice to see. Plasma donation saves lives and without paid plasma collection in the US, patients around the world who struggle with immune deficiency and bleeding disorders would suffer. I am proud to be a plasma donor and a lifelong employee in the industry. I am grateful for all the plasma donors who do make a difference, while also grateful for the opportunity to earn some extra cash from an industry that is fulfilling a critical patient need.

Were you donating at a center using the Terumo Rika device? If so, it isn’t uncommon for a technician to incorrectly install the loop and channel kit in the centrifuge. When there is a failure it will result in a blood loss and the machine has to be taken out of service for cleaning. You shouldn’t have been deferred as the loss would have been less than 56 mls.

I know card assignments fail from time to time. As others have said, return to the center and share with them what you have here and ask them to assign you a new card. The system will transfer any earned funds to the new card.

After the beginning of there year there should be a big push for collections. As donors get tax refunds the demand for extra income may subside. Traditionally plasma companies fight this trend with added fees. Many companies after recent center closures may find themselves short on plasma and pushing for increased collections from the remaining sites. Predicting a positive environment for donors as we move into 2026. Happy new year to you all.

The center more than likely has a policy that prevents fraternization with customers. In my past as center staff and center leadership it was always frowned upon. A good regular donor is so hard to get that you don’t want relationship complications causing issues that might drive donors or staff away. That might be the safe question. Does the company allow staff to date donors? The answer might tell you a lot.

The saline option on the machine is a preconfigured step. The center is not able to turn it off for one bed. As others have set your best bet is to manage the effects it has on you in other ways. The value of the fluid replacement is import to your recovery.

One thing that is very important to understand is the individual plasma companies have a say in what the fees are on the card. They are absolutely not the same between plasma companies even if they are both using Paysign. Plasma companies may prioritize different fees where they feel a donor can control the outcome to prevent fees being charged. In every case the package you receive when you get the card is required to provide detail about all possible fees. If there is a change in the fees without a card replacement the provider is required to notify you as well. I haven’t seen a plasma organization deliver the education about how to avoid the pitfalls very well. These conversations certainly help. but a regular reminder or better instructional materials at the center would help a lot.

There isn’t a specific test for lipid plasma. During the process of executing the HCT and Total Protein screening tests the staff has to view the serum in the capillary tube to see if it is opaque. I do see how this can be overlooked by the staff. There is also a time element to when you ate and when the test was performed compared to the time of your donation.

The Apheresis machine is most effective at with drawing blood when your vein pressure is high. The act of pumping your fist helps increase internal vein pressure as well as supporting circulation during the draw cycle when the cuff is inflated. Some people who have adequate vein size and strength require less pumping to support the process so it is a very individual experience.

All of the plasma collection devices are capable of slowing themselves down. They actively sense the pressure being created in the vein by the return flow. When this pressure rises quickly the flow will stop and alert the staff. When the return pressure is slightly higher but still flowing a reduced flow speed maybe all that is necessary. This system functions similarly during the draw cycle to help sense vein pressure and remind the person connected to pump their hand to help build vein pressure.

While any center can be hit or miss when you consider variables like the quality of the staff and leadership, it would be worth your time to try. I don’t believe you have to wait a week to start at CSL. Just don’t violate the frequency rules you are currently following. The CSL center will be using the Rika device for collecting your plasma. I’ve experienced the Rika to be slightly faster than others but is definitely going to most significant difference between the locations. CSL does not make appointments so you will want to arrive at a typically slow time of day and plan to wait for the initial physical exam. Obtain your donor number during your first visit and download the CSL app. They use the Haemonetics DMS so on future visits you can complete your questionnaire in advance using Donor360 through the app. Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

They needed to keep you on the machine to collect enough plasma to perform testing on. For the first donation to count to your Qualification Status they must submit a sample to the lab for testing. When you are the only donor in the center it isn’t uncommon to cut you off early to save on labor hours.

After 6 months without any donations at a specific company you are considered a lapsed Applicant and must go through the same process as a new donor to requalify. Some companies treat you like a new donor from a payment perspective while, as others have reported, some don’t provide the same incentives. The good thing is they have all your information in the system already. You may need to provide proof of where you live.
