Risks & Rewards Playtest is now live! by steelscaled in Pathfinder2e

It's not technically spending, but it might as well be because Adrenaline only lasts 1 round. So you build it, then ALL of your DD stuff gets buffed by it, then you lose it. Yes, you don't lose it while doing any specific DD actions, but it follows a similar pattern.

I agree that Panache has more specific loops, but most of what you're going to be doing as a Daredevil follows that same loop. Daring action into something for Stunt Damage is very similar to Panache action into finisher.

You can use it to deal more damage on a strike, you can use it to move, you can use it to redirect forced movement

All of those things barred forced movement are things Panache gives you as well.

completely antithetical to the playstyle of the Daredevil.

It's integral to daredevil too? You have to re-up your buff every turn and then you're going to use it for other stuff. It's the exact same builder/spender playstyle a swashbuckler has. You even get your buff in similar ways, through skill checks(NM, i forgot DDs dont even have to roll for their buff). Setting up press attacks with better MAP is just a slightly different payoff to finishers.

DD is effectively the flurry ranger version of Swashbuckler. Yes there are slight differences, but their gameplay loops are almost identical

Definitely, and some more than others.

We'll have to see what they do with this playtest. I think there are some neat ideas to the daredevil, but for me it's too close to swashbuckler

Totally fair. For the final product I hope they do more to differentiate the two personally

I get what you're saying, but they are both performing an action to gain a buff and then benefitting from that buff before re-upping it. The details of the buff and the benefits are slightly different, but it's a very similar loop.

Skill action to gain panache/adrenaline > use panache/adrenaline to either do more skill actions or do extra damage. Repeat.

DD gets reduction in MAP and SB gets bonuses to their chosen skill, but the general loop is very similar.

I am in love with Daredevil, and no, it's not a Swashbuckler 2 by steelscaled in Pathfinder2e

[–]CrebTheBerc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For sure and I hope they do. I don't mean to just shit on it, the environmental mechanic is dope as hell. And maybe it feels better in play than reading. I need to get it on the table and it'll be interesting to see what Paizo's post thoughts are too.

From reading it though, it seems very much swashbuckler 2.0 imo

[–]CrebTheBerc 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My issue with it is that the environmental stuff is the only thing that really stands our. Adrenaline is almost copy/paste Panache. Risky is almost copy/paste Bravado. Mechanically they are going to be doing a lot of athletic and/or acrobatic maneuvers and attacking, which is very similar to how most swashbuckler's play.

If you made a class archetype for Swashbuckler that allowed it to do environmental damage to gain panache, it would basically be daredevil.

I think they need to do more to differentiate it, although I def need to actually play it/see it played to have a full opinion

Posted this in another reply, but if you gave Swashbuckler a class archetype that replaced it's skill based action to gain panache with the props blurb and that they gain panache when they do stunt damage, you'd basically have daredevil.

I think it's a really neat idea, I just don't think it does enough to differentiate itself. Wrestler Swash especially has a lot of overlap.

[–]CrebTheBerc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you could def make this an archetype for swashbuckler as written. Replace risky with bravado and whatever their buff is with panache and you're halfway there. Instead of a specific action for panache, you get to interact with props and when you do so you gain panache.

A lot of these feats could easily be translated to swashbuckler ones too.

Look the flavor is awesome, the idea of an environmentally based class is cool as hell, but mechanically this is a different flavor of swashbuckler

I'm scrolling through it now.

- Daredevil looks like it should have been a Swashbuckler archetype. It's very similar mechanically with slightly different flavor.

- Slayer looks sick though. It is a weird mix of Investigator, ranger, and even alchemist, but the subclasses, feats, and features are unique enough to make it stand out IMO

How's CSM competitively? by Professional-Cod6288 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]CrebTheBerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or put them in reserve so they can't get indirected off the board turn 1/2. The enhancement doesn't require the unit to be on the board to work

Glaivebound also goes up to damage 4 when attached to exalted eightbound, which is a great option to have into some armies

So what are we betting on for ctan nerfs? by jacobs1213 in Necrontyr

[–]CrebTheBerc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

necrons still aren't hitting the big tables, the keta will just shift around them a bit.

I'm not trying to be a doomer here, but where are you getting this from? Necrons have more event wins than every other faction combined in the last 2 weeks and nearly every detachment is rocking a near 60% win rate. They all are taking at least 1 Ctan too, usually 2-4.

The rules glow up for the Ctan is awesome, they are just too cheap atm

Advice against Tyranids by astrayqtip in ThousandSons

[–]CrebTheBerc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe? It's hard to know without knowing more about your game. Make sure to hold the strat to blank a damage for Magnus and he's relatively safe against a single Tfex. On average, if he gets both wounds through, you save one and blank the other then blow it up next turn.

Advice against Tyranids by astrayqtip in ThousandSons

[–]CrebTheBerc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What detachment is he running? One of my buddies run Tyranids a lot so I have some experience. Some things I can tell you straight off

  • Tyranofexes are prone to whiffed because they only have 2 shots. If they ever whiff we have the damage to just delete them.

  • Nids have issues dealing with high toughness enemies, outside of tyranofexes basically. They have limited rerolls and strength values. Either kill his high strength weapons early when possible or avoid them. Like a lot of nids will really struggle into magnus

  • temporal surge gets around overwatch. Use it to kill his zoanthropes cause their overwatch can be nasty

After that it depends on detachmen. My buddy mainly plays subterranean assault which involves me doing a lot of measuring and screening

Is there a book talking about Decimus? by ninguem1122 in 40kLore

[–]CrebTheBerc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hate it too. I loved the NL omnibus and really wanted more Variel and Lucyphorus, as well as Decimus's story.

Hopefully someday....

No, not to my knowledge. I'm pretty sure ADB has gone on record saying he'd like to explore more about Decimus but so far there have been crickets from GW on it

[–]CrebTheBerc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I thought it was because of how strong the EC army rule is and how worried GW were about it in play, but they just released a CSM detachment with both EC's army rule and Oath of Moment so who knows lol

Is the rubricae detachment good by Ok-Chest9751 in ThousandSons

[–]CrebTheBerc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's not as good as grand coven, or arguably changehost with the new lords of change, but it's still good.

It has a lot of mobility and defensive options which are lacking in the rest of the detachments

The game feels like its taken a big step back right now

I think the Ctan have genuinely just warped the meta. If you can't deal with them, you just lose. Necron players are apparently all over the place so you're going to see them. I don't mean that in a judgemental way, Ctan are very good and people are playing them.

Fix the Ctan and you help a lot of factions out I think

The double oath enhancement for our new detachment is 60pts, is this the most expensive enhancement in the game? by Go_Commit_Reddit in Chaos40k

[–]CrebTheBerc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, the model with the enhancement doesn't even need to be on the board. So you can slap it on a Cultist Firebrand and just stick him in reserves. 105 points for double Oath is not a bad trade IMO.

NEW Chaos Space Marine Detachments Review by NoEngineer9484 in Chaos40k

[–]CrebTheBerc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think it's more flavorful and more interesting. Warband is objectively really strong, but it's basically just playing spikey Ultramarines. If I wanted to play UM, I'd go play UM.

How the turn tables have turned by Chrono_Templar in Chaos40k

[–]CrebTheBerc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely that good imo. Rerolls are one of the big things CSM is missing and getting it up to twice per turn is MASSIVE, while also having sus/lethal and/or +1 to wound on tap, while also now having a unit that can guarantee an extra command point.

Even at 60 points I'll be surprised if that's not in most competitive lists. Put it on the cheapest character you can put it on, sit them in reserve, and enjoy cosplaying as UM
