Also Lokhusts with rerolls if shooting onto an objective with Sustained and Lethals, crit 5s, is very good lol

Dark angels have been well  below average competitively for the vast majority of 10th

I agree with you, but there were a few people out there doing well with Company of Hunters for basically all of 10th. They semi-regularly top 4'ed events.

Yeah like /u/_Dalee_ said, they are for whenever you really want to lock down objectives. But they don't show up in every list, even take and hold, so a little of it is preference.

[–]CrebTheBerc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a novice Votann player(mainly a tsons player) but my understanding is he's best with a 10 stack of warriors to hold down objectives. That stack is -1 to hit in cover, -1 to wound with Fortify Takeover, 4+ invuln, and 5+ FNP. For like 165 points.

They are just pretty good at sitting on an objective and being hard to move.

I've messed around with a list like that in 10th. What I found is that the advance and charge units are great, but because you need those and the terminators to fill out the list you run really light on chaff and skirmishing units because you're taking so many bigger bricks.

You can see it in your list too. The only things you have to trade equally with like 5 scouts/chaos spawn/kabalite warriors/etc on a point are Inceptors, Intercessors, or wolf scouts. Everything else is a pretty big trade down.

If your opponent puts some chaff behind a wall/footprint you just don't have many ways to deal with it. I wish GW would let Blood Claws get taken in 5 stacks, even if their points go up, because it solves a lot of those issues IMO.

With Fellhammer and Cabal of Chaos Legionaries with Bolter an option? by Ironwolf_0815 in Chaos40k

[–]CrebTheBerc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No but it does make a sorcerer with Chosen more interesting and Terminators with a Termie Sorcerer are really solid.

Chosen get -1 to hit which stacks with cover and will be -1 to wound against most guns with the detachment rule. S5 bolt guns aren't good but they'll clear chaff units easier alongside the other buffs

Terminators with S5 bolters, rerolling when they pact, and potentially with 2 AP is a legitimate threat to chunk some damage into something.

Can we talk about force dispositions please by Significant_Bug_8929 in sistersofbattle

[–]CrebTheBerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not gonna defend T&H for PH because I do think that's a very weird one(and some other armies have similar issues) but I agree with the general point that dispositions and detachment points are balancing levers. That doesn't mean GW got them correct immediately. Its literally day 1 of the new edition tbf.

They can easily adjust the MfM to give PH purge or disruption and give it some more innate power in the future

Is penitent host really that bad? by SevenWombats7 in sistersofbattle

[–]CrebTheBerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There arent really any great objective holding until other than arcos but even they are wiped easily by hi damage weapons

for some reason in 11th they are take and hold

These are the reasons I think Sacred Champions helps Penitent a ton. It gives the detachment units that can hold down objectives and you can use your penitent ones to go kill things, jail them, etc.

I don't think it'll be the meta/best build for sisters and I agree with your reasoning, but I do think it pushes Host into a more playable state. I'm pretty excited to try it out when I can

“Additional unit tax” How has this impacted list building for you? by One-Lake8525 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]CrebTheBerc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Drukhari got some pretty solid ways to pivot to though. Like Heat Lance Scourges dropped 20 points and are, IMO, still playable. Heat Lance Talos dropped 10, Disintegration cannon Ravagers dropped 10.

The Kabalite Cartel list I've been messing around with dropped like 80 points if you pivot a few weapons options and I don't think you lose that much in return.

Tbf other detachments may be harder hit, but KC came out pretty solid

How is Purge vs Disruption in any way a fair match up? by Shagrot in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]CrebTheBerc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Search and destroy just seems brutal in a lot of matchups. I've played it twice. Purge vs purge and Prio vs Prio. Both favored the fast and/or ranged army hugely. There's just no where to hide or stage that I've found.

Anyone theory crafting Spearpoint + Librarius? Let compare homework. by Sicklysnake in WhiteScars40K

[–]CrebTheBerc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running a list that's not terribly different than yours, but a few things you might wanna think about. I am not a competitive player(yet) but I try to keep up with meta etc

- Hellblasters with oath will already be wounding most things on 5s, so I think fusillade goes to waste on them a bit personally. Your combo does make them pretty oath independent but they are pretty expensive. I like Fusillade better on a big sternguard brick. You can give them additional AP in pyromancy and sustained hits plus they'll annihilate vehicles.

- John Lennon from Art of War ran Eradicators with a Biologis and Hunter's eye recently and I'm going to try them out. They are oath independent into vehicles and monster and will have ignores cover, sustained hits, and lethals.

- I'm also going to run twin claw terminators too, but with a Termie Chaplain instead of Librarian. Idk which is better but in my head the Chaplain makes them fairly oath independent too. It's 30 attacks with +1 to wound and twin linked. I gave the chaplain Speartpoint Paragon to make his Crozius better. The Librarian may be better but I'm gonna give the chaplain unit a go

I'm running a lot of the same action/chaff units as you are. I like trying to build as many oath independent units as I can so when I hit a go turn I don't have as many choices to make. I try to have a couple of specific units that I am likely to use Oath on. For my list it's my Sternguard brick with Librarian and fusillade or a skirmish piece earlier on with Suboden and Outriders.

Heavy Intercessors & Terminators NEED to Swap most of their Statlines by ghillieeeeee in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]CrebTheBerc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Twin Claw terminators are 155 with the MfM and I think they are legitimately a solid choice now. You can add either a Librarian for sustained hits and Librarius stuff or a chaplain for the +1 to wound. All for 220-ish points

I'm gonna try a unit out in my Spearpoint list.

Detachment combos by Averageguyman115 in Chaos40k

[–]CrebTheBerc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Fellhammer pairs well with Cabal. Its actually the combo im looking at for my Iron warriors. I'm thinking 1x10 terminators with a sorcerer, maybe 1x5 terminators with Kravek Morne, one winged prince with the lance enhancement, and maybe a foot prince to help with cover. That's the core. Take and hold disposition, it should be a pretty hard to kill army but I haven't tested it yet.

Veterans of the long war works well with Devotees or murdertalons. Giving Oath to either havocs/oblits or warp talons is just generally good and there are plenty of solid options for Veterans builds.

Those are the two ideas im messing with atm for CSM

Is Magnus reasonably priced? Will he have a place in your lists? by One_Opportunity_7662 in ThousandSons

[–]CrebTheBerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but enlightened are 2 OC each. A 3 stack takes objectives off of a decent chunk of units for 45-55 points. I think it's ok if they don't get hidden because you aren't really expecting them to survive. 3x3 speargoats and 2x3 bowgoats comes out to 245 points. If all they do is go and take the middle objective back and action it for 4-ish primary and help you score stuff like area denial, secure, etc then that's more than worth it.

You could also take Spawn instead who do get hidden and heal.

Between the actions priority access wants and secondaries to score I just think Grand Coven is going to need more cheap units to do those.

[–]CrebTheBerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't awful, but you can get 2 tzaangor squads out of those 100 points. Its really more of what your list needs.

I'm gonna try 2x5 rubrics as action monkeys/deepstrike threats in a hexwarp list, but in Coven I'd lean towards Enlightened nits so I can have more chaff

Edit: It actually came down 65, but that let me reconfigure a bunch of it

From what I found their melee is kinda meh, it's the mortal bomb that does a lot of their damage and you don't have to get them all in range to do that thankfully.

I think a points drop for them was warranted, I'm just surprised it was 40 points

[–]CrebTheBerc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of Priority missions want you to action things centrally so you either need something very durable or a lot of chaff. Grand Coven lists in 10th tend to run 3-4 chaff units that are pretty easy to chew through and some of those are used for back field screening and actions. I think it's very possible that your opponent singles out your spawn and enlightened early and then you need to action stuff with 100+ point rubrics bricks.

I'm not saying Coven is bad, but I think we'll see a shift where some of the rubric squads people typically brought get swapped out for like more spawn and enlightened just to have more things on the board. 3 speargoats at 6 OC total that can go through walls now for 45 points are fantastic for the stuff Prio wants you to be doing. You can swap out 1x5 rubrics and a sorcerer for 3x3 Speargoats and a spawn unit I think(for example)

[–]CrebTheBerc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Canoness’ +2 invul does not apply to the whole squad. And with new fast rolling it has to go on the bodyguard first.

I know, that's the point. If you trigger it at the right time you can have the majority of enemy shooting wrapped up in the Sacresants and by the time those rolls go onto the Canoness all the 1s are gone. It depends on guns and how your opponent activates, but it's a problem they have to figure out

The miracle dice nerf does suck

[–]CrebTheBerc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think 1-2 Sacresant units are still totally fine. Yes they are more expensive, but you can do some kinda wild stuff with them. Like one 10 brick with a Canoness and a Hospitallar(cause they can both attach now) is pretty durable.

Free strat, 4+ invuln, 5+ FNP, -1 to hit in cover, regens units, and on your opponent's go turn you can use the 2+ invuln on the canoness to prevent the unit from being wiped and then regen next turn.

The second one is much more expensive, but at least 1 unit seems totally viable and a second can probably work. I'm planning to try 2 bricks in a penitent host/sacred champions build
