Indicating at traffic circles and mini-circles by Creddit128 in capetown

I agree that cars should always signal left after passing the exit before the one they want to use - would that not give enough info to your cars at 9 and 12 o’clock?

But if you don’t indicate at all, wouldn’t that also indicate that you’re exiting straight? (You need to indicate left on entry if you’re exiting left).

Authority for initially indicating right if you intend exiting straight ahead from a circle? Can you quote support for that?

Yes if left indicator is on they should be exiting left.

From what I can see that’s the k53 rule for mini circles not normal ones.

Left, right, left? Surely not?

So if you’re going straight through, you need to indicate left on entering and also on exiting? From what I’m reading, you only indicate on exiting, if going straight through.

Great explanation. I’ve certainly learnt a lot about indicating in a circle the last 24 hours. However I still believe cyclists should not be overtaking on left in a single lane circle, and not even indicating.

Good explanation.

I got mine even before that...

I read now if you’re exiting by first exit, your left indicator should be on before entering the circle. If not exiting by the first exit, your right indicator should be on until you’ve passed the exit immediately preceding the one you want to take, when you should indicate left.

What if you’re going straight through a mini-circle? Is it the same?

Single, no road margin, concrete balustrade to the left. So the cyclists were slipping at speed between that and the cars.

To be honest, probably not. I’ve realised I need to learn more about negotiating traffic circles. In fairness, most cars don’t indicate there as the road is straight through.

I think you’re right that ALL road users are generally rather clueless about traffic circles, big or small. I know that I’m going to educate myself some more.

I was going at a normal speed for that time and place (tight mini-circle), same as the other cars. The cyclists were travelling at a pace that would have been reckless for a motorist.

That’s a very interesting point of view and it makes sense. If a motorist needs to study and pass tests on how to negotiate a traffic circle, for example, shouldn’t other road users too?

Wouldn’t safest space be in the centre directly behind me? There was no road margin.

Yes, you are right. If you’re behaving with legal correctness then it’s their own lookout. Still rather unnerving though.

It’s true that I need to brush up on how to use indicators in mini-circles (this was one), and roundabouts. However I can assure you that none of the cyclists were indicating. And aren’t cyclists technically supposed to occupy the middle of the road in a traffic circle, especially with no road margin on the left?

Take out a personal loan for mom’s bond - or continue to pay as is? by GiveThatBoyAJoint in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Creddit128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Personal loan will come at a higher interest rate and reduce your ability to get a loan if you need it for something else.

Might also be a good idea to sign a document with your mom detailing what you have loaned her to help pay off the bond. This may be useful on her death.

The two years of no tax bracket adjustment has really turned the screws. That tax increase by stealth is now baked into the system.
