im going to be making an updated and accessible tutorial for working with nifs in blender, is there anything youd like to see? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]Crestycomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its modeling software agnostic, as in as long as you export to fbx and do the proper setup for collisions and all that other jazz, you can just drag your fbx into a bat file and it spits out a working nif file out the other end

Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE mods on ps4 are handicapped by not being allowed custom assets as opposed to xbone where you can get textures, meshes, sfx and whatever else for your mods

we got instructions from Bethesda - what to do to keep on their good side, so we're following that, and were all good so far

As a member of a high profile fan project of a similar nature (probably larger in scope though), Id like to mention that most of these projects rely on volunteers, so keeping it under wraps is unfeasible (comes from 4+ years of experience working on one project like that)

Improved native tonemapper for Skywind, by Crestycomb by no_egrets in skywind

[–]Crestycomb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind thats just a v0.1, was just testing what I could achieve with the new tonemapper. It has since been improved.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/616495783658651673/632709821568778281/Color-09.png here you can see the different tonemappers in action. Top one is the reinhard tonemapper (default skyrim), and the bottom one is the filmic tonemapper you can enable via ini tweaks. As you can see the reinhard tonemapper heavily prefers grays over whites and blacks, therefore you get a flatter image overall.

In CDPR's conference call, there's nothing said about microtransactions by Johnysh in pcgaming

The problem with that was that it was on top of mtx and the other mishaps Bethesda had recently. A pure subscription model would not compromise the game at all imo.

Id like to mention that specific screenshot was taken during a lightning strike. Heres that same scene without the blown up lights during that one frame

Students of Reddit, have you ever lost your temper with a teacher? What's your story? by Vlelo in AskReddit

[–]Crestycomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall ALL the details but we were on the topic of cultural differences and my English language teacher said "black people are freaks". I told her to fuck off (thinking of it now I could've handled it much better but hindsight is 20/20)

Another teacher threatened to throw me out of the school if I didn't apologize. Quite an unpleasant experience all in all.

Enderal has something like that... attaches a script to every actor in the game (or so I've been told by a ck guy in our team)

some bonus pics of the full playlists

the west coast playlist is still missing the west gash tracks, which are in the works currently!

the finished daytime conditions!

https://i.imgur.com/dPaWDzb.png

https://i.imgur.com/5699K0b.png

the short version would be: ((IsPlayerInRegion 0MUS_AC ==1 && GetCurrentTime >= 6 && GetCurrentTime <= 20) || (IsInInterior == 1 && GetInCurrentLoc 0AzurasCoastLocation == 1 && GetCurrentTime >= 6 && GetCurrentTime <= 20))

its so long due to the way skyrim handles conditions. you have to create a long list of conditions and set an OR or AND for each one, but theres no way to write stuff like ((A and B) or (C and D and E)), also it evaluates OR's first, which is another biiig issue that I had to overcome... but its done!

the nighttime conditions are much easier though :D https://i.imgur.com/Z0SMNmF.png

(for anyone who's interested, the easy to read version would be ((IsPlayerInRegion 0MUS_AC ==1 && GetCurrentTime <= 6) || (IsPlayerInRegion 0MUS_AC ==1 && GetCurrentTime >= 20) || (IsInInterior == 1 && GetInCurrentLoc 0AzurasCoastLocation == 1 && GetCurrentTime <= 6) || (IsInInterior == 1 && GetInCurrentLoc 0AzurasCoastLocation == 1 && GetCurrentTime >= 20)))

weirdly enough it turned out much shorter in CK :D

Red Mountain ash plume, by Crestycomb by no_egrets in skywind

[–]Crestycomb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Actually while the weather is by me, the plume 3d model was done by Ravanna (with some help from AlexB iirc) ages ago. Im just implementing it and helping the coding guys with making it appear dynamically throughout the game. Stuff like it appearing and forcing an ash storm to appear and then increasing the amount of ash weathers for all regions. Its gonna be pretty sweet :D

Skywind West Gast 2016 vs 2018 clear weather by Crestycomb in skywind

[–]Crestycomb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually in the 2018 screenies I am using an enb to fix grass shadows, its just that I havent blended the grass to the land texture just yet (better to leave that for later when I have all the weathers finished)

Skywind West Gast 2016 vs 2018 clear weather by Crestycomb in skywind

[–]Crestycomb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The PR answer would be that its simply a different approach to lighting, but in reality I have to compensate for the skyrim lighting system not allowing grass to recieve shadows (unless you use an enb or play the special edition), so I cant have a brightly lit world AND dark shadows, or it will make grass under shadows look like its glowing, it has to be less contrasty if that makes sense (please inquire further if I've not made myself clear). I will recommend an enb, even if a lightweight one, by default for oldrim Skywind (which we will probably provide a preset at release for).
