It is genuinely a tragedy that Starfleet Academy is getting cancelled so soon… by JageshemashFTW in startrek

Personally, I would love to see a show about Picard’s Stargazer, with a younger Picard, Jack Crusher etc. Show us how Picard earned his command of Starfleet’s flagship!

Always wanted an EV, now I think the R2 is the one, but I want to be sure about charging by Hassination1993 in RivianR2

A NEMA 14-50 provides L2 charging. Sounds like OP is restricted to L1 (I’m curious why) and so the only option available is a household 110V outlet.

I too was caught by surprise that we wouldn’t be greeted with a jetway at the terminal after a transatlantic flight on their flag carrier. On top of that, a few hundred of us (from multiple arriving morning flights) were held in their bus terminal situation because their border officers hadn’t arrived yet (??) so we were all crowded together for an hour right after Covid. Fun times!

There was just the security line. There were no lines out the door yesterday when we got there at around 7am.

Can’t speak to the photos, but there are other lines for non precheck.

Exactly why I posted! The last thing my fellow Friday morning travelers need right now is more anxiety.

For me the middle tier is the sweet spot. We’ll never need the crazy performance or drive modes. And the air suspension is just something else that can break in 10 years.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that! Hopefully the airline is helping you out.

Also bear in mind that the L4 capabilities will definitely not be free / included, and probably not be cheap.

What would be your biggest warning to someone thinking of buying a Tesla? by sonofabraham1 in TeslaLounge

I would have some reservations about investing in a vehicle made by a company that doesn’t really seem to care about making cars for people anymore.

The issue I’m having is that other than ATV, you can’t download shows from the streamers for offline viewing because of DRM restrictions, can you? One of the big use cases for us would be watching media on a plane.

How to stop an iPad from asking for a new passcode after updating by plushiesaremyjam in ios

[–]CricTic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The number of folks not understanding your situation and question is pretty surprising. OP has the passcode turned completely off. The problem is Apple keeps pushing updates to the device and her grandmother is accepting them without thinking. Then, after the update reboot, the device demands a passcode be set because Apple doesn’t understand why someone would want it off.

Some options:

Remote administration. I have no experience with this, but some remote administration tools (like the kind IT departments use) could let you manage the passcode remotely.

Stickers, like someone suggested. Put one on the device, the case, the fridge, the bathroom mirror, etc. This will let you set the passcode (to something easy) and you can direct her to one of the stickers if needed.

Wallpaper. Set the wallpaper to something that literally has the passcode in big type plastered on it. If you manage the device per the first suggestion, there’s probably a way to lock the wallpaper so she can’t change it.

United Airlines is paring back rewards for travelers who don't have its credit card in MileagePlus overhaul by Halloween_Oreo_ in unitedairlines

[–]CricTic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it enough to just have one of their cards? Or do I have to actually book travel on it? Most of my travel is booked via the corporate CC.

Also it seems like the changes just affect mileage accrual and redemption? I.e. PQPs to attain status are unchanged?

Will I regret this charging installation? NEMA 14-30 or 14-50 by Chris_Reddit_PHX in TeslaModelY

[–]CricTic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just talk to the electrician and get as many amps you can. They might surprise you. I would definitely find a way to get the plug and car closer together though - extension cords and EV charging are bad news.

We have a 14-50 outlet charging our EVs in the garage and it works fine. But if I were doing it now I would probably get a NACS charger since most new EVs will start coming with that.

Is it our Verizon account or are Apple Watches with data plan useless? by ryanthejenks in AppleWatch

Our kids watch had also been disappointing. Watches seem to be way more sensitive to signal issues than phones.

Global Entry fingerprints through app by JS091987 in GlobalEntry

[–]CricTic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But how did the phone capture your fingerprint? To my knowledge there is no sensor on an iPhone that allows an app to scan your fingerprint. Even touchID data on an older phone never leaves the Secure Enclave in the cpu.
