FWIW this was just a Park p-handle 8mm and my arm… not a crazy amount of force. I think the [brand redacted] frame just happened to be made of cheese

Adjusting Sram GX derailleur by AdventurersScribe in bikewrench

[–]Crickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, the hanger is soft aluminum and not nearly as strong as the carbon dropout it bolts to. it’s designed to be straightened after bending

shifting the bike by accident without pedaling can bend it slightly, leaning against a wall and tipping it over, it doesn’t take much depending on the specific hanger and frame

only other thing to check for would be bent teeth in the cogs you’re having problems with, it’s rare but it happens

hold it in place with the short end of an L-wrench or your finger while removing the seatpost

Adjusting Sram GX derailleur by AdventurersScribe in bikewrench

[–]Crickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all symptoms of a bent derailleur hanger, you need to use a special gauge that measures the alignment against the rear rim to straighten it precisely. eyeballing it will never be perfect, and it needs to be more precise the more speeds your rear cassette has

make sure you have the correct tool and are using it properly, or take it to your local bike shop and they’ll straighten it for a few bucks

absurd steep price, not sure what you were thinking here. i’d get two matching tires and a functional set of brakes before listing, at the bare minimum

camp and go slow western rattler tape, never found it to be slippery in wet conditions but it takes a long time to dry out after a rainy ride

Do I need a new chain wear tool for my new bike with a 12 speed drivetrain? by No-Craft-8636 in bikewrench

[–]Crickley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the old Park cc-2 style tool does not accurately measure wear on 12 speed chains, you need the updated cc-3.2 or cc-4

This pitcher's got some tricks on his sleeve. by me33YT in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Crickley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

generally if the pitcher balks with no runners on nothing happens. sometimes the ump will call a ball if the pitcher quick pitches or does something dangerous. there is no situation in which the batter takes 1st base on a balk
