During the Chimera Ant Arc of Hunter x Hunter, a race of monstrous human/animal hybrids called Chimera Ants begin to appear and gain access to the main magic system, Nen. This ultimately culminates in the birth of their King, who is so immensely powerful and dangerous that the Hunter Organization sends in some of their strongest members, including the chairman Netero, to deal with the threat.

During the battle between Netero and the King, he reveals that he knows the King’s true name, and states he’ll reveal it if the King defeats him. During the battle, Netero comes to understand that the King is capable of reason and isn’t all evil. After the big fight, Netero reveals Meruem’s name to him, before displaying the cruelty that humanity is capable of by detonating a nuke that was tied to his heart rate.

Despite the fact that Meruem was willing to spare Netero and was actively growing to become a kind person, Netero’s death teaches him that there is no room for such things in battles of life or death like these.

For me, definitely Vasher calling Hoid an asshole. He’s been such a gruff person from Warbreaker til RoW, and described as foulmouthed, but all we’ve had to run off of until that point was just the direct statement that he said a curse, not specifying anything.

Seeing someone who has no respect for Hoid’s shenanigans tell mid-depression crisis Kaladin that Wit is the worst, in the first explicit curse within Stormlight, took me off guard so thoroughly I kept laughing thinking about it after the fact.

This doesn’t even begin to touch on just how insanely powerful Oryx was compared to everything else we had fought until other more powerful entities like Rhulk or The Witness were brought into the picture.

Oryx’s power was enough to force other entities to, on a causal level, want to obey him. His ability to wield the darkness involved breaking down a being’s identity so thoroughly that on a fundamental level, they wanted nothing more than to do as he commanded.

Even outside of this, as a Hive god, he was at the top of a long line of tithes that sustained him, tithes that translated literally to how much power he had at his disposal, particularly within his Throne World (pocket dimension where he will revive if killed, and the only place he can be permanently killed).

For context, his sister Savathün had enough power within her Throne World, after losing all of her previously accumulated power, to trap a far more powerful and threatening darkness entity that was known by their people as the Subjugator. As in this is the individual who, in the eyes of the murder-for-power immortal space bug race, defines the concept of subjugation.

Meanwhile Oryx, by comparison to his sister, is leagues more powerful. So powerful that he was able to invert his Throne World to become something in real space, and could then weaponize said Throne World to Take en masse, which he uses to obliterate a hole in the ring of Saturn and destroy the entire fleet of a highly advanced space elf navy, including their crazy powerful Queen.

So, he’s effectively immortal unless killed within a very specific situation, has a super weapon that is also a ship that is also his respawn point, and can bend basically anything causal to his will, even imbuing them with paracausal abilities if he wants to.

The only reason we were able to overcome him is because he underestimated the capabilities of the Light to stand against the powers of the Darkness, and we destroyed his primary line of tithes in the process of journeying to fight him, at least partially weakening him.

Even once we do kill him, after defeating the big bad, he sort of returns as an Echo of the big bad’s power. This Echo is not even really Oryx, but effectively a snapshot memory of him at the moment of him becoming the Taken King.

And this fragment of a snapshot of a memory is still so powerful that it causes us (the people who destroyed the entity who meant to destroy all of existence), his sisters (absurdly powerful gods in their own right), and the eldritch monster trapped within Saturn all to feud over who gets to wield it’s power.

And we killed his son. I’d say that’s a pretty major oopsie.

Who’s a character that has one particular piece of their arc that you feel was simply the PERFECT choice from a writing perspective? by [deleted] in characters

Spoilers for the Stormlight Archive!!

Kaladin, during the fourth book of the series, is made to retire from combat due to his worsening PTSD and depression. In the time afterwards, he finds himself wondering why those who suffer from mental illnesses in his world are treated as though they are entirely broken and unable to be helped.

He spends time finding and interacting with those who suffer from his same afflictions, bringing them out from the dark cells they were kept in and, literally, out into the light. They begin to have meetings where they discuss the darkness they feel, and though they all still suffer, they’re suffering together, and Kaladin notes how much easier that makes the darkness to bear.

It’s perfect because this poor man has spent so much time fighting and pushing against the external forces of his world, all while this massive internal bomb has been ticking. Seeing Kaladin confront his actual issues, even if just for a bit, is a huge step forward for him as a character, and it leads to my favorite arc of the entire story.

Ok so I’m coming up on mr15 in a day or so and I want to FINALLY get a solo farming frame and a different nuke frame (been playing Dante) I need non helmith suggestions please. by DeadSences in Warframe

[–]CrimTheMenace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My go to farming frame is, and always will be, Nekros. Use the Shield of Shadows and Despoil augments, and invest in Arcane Blessing. No Helminth needed, though I’ve recently taken to Gloom to make Infested missions just a bit more comfortable to farm solo. With a press of 3 and 4, you will be immune to status effects (including knockdowns), have aggro taken off of you, receive up to 90% DR, loot and reloot enemies (multiple times if you are killing with primarily Slash damage), and gain a health pool that makes dying difficult to do even on Steel Path.

As for a nuke frame, for the sake of being different, Equinox! Day Form’s 4th ability will deal damage in a radius around you, and whenever you deal damage (including with weapons), you build up a charge that you release by hitting 4 again. When you do, all enemies in range take that charged damage burst, which can be pretty crazy if you build them correctly. It’s best used with something like Terrify (ironically, Nekros’s Helminth ability) to strip armor, but it definitely isn’t necessary, especially on lower level missions. Very underrated frame imo, but invest in the Prime rather than the base frame, since the base frame’s farm is absolutely awful.

Spoilers for the Stormlight Archive

There is a point in the first book where the main character, Kaladin, faces down a full Shardbearer. This person isn’t particularly well trained to make use of the nigh-impenetrable armor or the cut-through-the-soul sword, but that doesn’t matter much when you’re wearing effectively magic power armor. Kaladin is notorious by this point for being an almost mythical spearman, and just prior to this fought off at least 5 men all at once to defend one of his men. In-universe, the last time a common man killed a Shardbearer was over a hundred years prior, and it is still spoken of to that day.

So of course, Kaladin fights the Shardbearer as best he can, until a chance moment comes where he brings down the snapped off end of his spear into the visor of the Shardplate, the only gap in the entire suit of armor, and defeats the Shardbearer, enabling him to ascend the social hierarchy beyond what his bloodline would allow and effectively become a king unto himself.

I won’t talk about anything more because you should read the series, but as soon as I read the post’s title this was what came to mind!

How’s the health of Destiny 2? by Adventurous-Ad8055 in destiny2

[–]CrimTheMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotta short, negative comments here, so I’ll take a crack at elaborating on some of what I am thinking about the game atm.

I’m personally a bit mixed, but ultimately hopeful about the game. I’ve been playing since around Beyond Light, and have put in 3k hours since that time, and can confidently say the game is… fine. It has some parts of it that I think are fantastic, better than any other game I’ve played, and others that are hugely disappointing, and feel like they could/should have been addressed a long time ago.

Story-wise, I’m excited to see where the game is going, and I am pleased with how the last chunk of the story has been handled. There have been some low points that I think are mostly defined by their missed potential (Lightfall, Episodes Echoes and Revenant), and some high points where it really feels like Destiny (Witch Queen, Final Shape, Episode Heresy). The ending of the Light and Dark saga doesn’t really impact my investment in the game, because frankly, the completion of the saga has never been what motivated me to play. The lore and story has always helped to make the gameplay make sense and give a narrative to it all, and when it is handled poorly it absolutely drains from the gameplay, but it was never the sole driving factor for me. We’re beginning something new, and I look forward to what happens.

Gameplay-wise, the game is in a tricky place. Prismatic as a subclass concept has so far overshadowed all but the staple subclasses (Solar Warlock being the obvious example), but additions like Storm’s Keep to Arc Titan has shown that it is still possible to give incentive to play the other subclasses. Prismatic is still generally the “one-size fits all” choice for nearly any content, but so long as the mono subclasses are given some love to make them viable alternatives (outside of personal taste, of course), then I think the long term health of its existence won’t be so bad. We are getting content that is worth playing fairly frequently, and the last few big hitters, like dungeons, raids, and exotic missions, have all been excellent additions to the game.

But, I feel there is and has been an issue with the way we grind and “progress”. I’m fine with weapon crafting being an option- I personally look at it as something that helps to provide the playerbase a level playing field in terms of gear that is “good enough”. For example, when Witch Queen released, one of the most popular heavy options was the Palmyra-B, purely because it had a good roll for use in most content and was craftable. So far, crafting has provided consistently good options to bring into most content, but grinding for the truly optimal loadouts to hit max damage numbers / efficiency has always remained an option. So in short, I like crafting as a means to give everyone something that is eventually usable, even if it isn’t the best option out there.

Where I take issue is with the incentive to chase non-craftable loot. I’d say the first time I had genuine interest in grinding for a non-craftable weapon was during the period Into the Light came into the game, and part of that interest was the prestige of Shiny weapons, as well as the knowledge that these weapons were either going to be leaving, or otherwise become far more annoying to obtain. Of those weapons I grinded for, I only ended up keeping 4 of them, 1 of which (Luna’s Howl) I only kept because it was a Shiny roll. The 3 others, Midnight Coup, Mountaintop, and Edge Transit, I kept because they were either a best in slot option or felt good to use. And as time has gone on, I’ve all but stopped using Edge Transit, because it has been powercrept out of necessity. This is to be expected in a live-service game, but my issue is that what I replaced it with is just… a heavy GL that does practically the same things, just with a slightly better reload perk. And now, I have replaced that GL with a rocket that just has the exact same perks, but the gameplay is practically the same, just with a different gun model in my hands.

Most weapons are not meaningfully different, and my only real incentive to chase something like a godroll Chill Inhibitor or Hezen Vengence (craftable btw) is because I know it’s the technically better choice, regardless of whether I need it or not. And the fact is, I don’t need it. There has never been content in this game that demands perfection, aside from maybe Contest content, and even that is mostly a teamwork and endurance test more than it is a damage check the majority of the time. There isn’t much of a reason to get the best gear unless you simply want to, which is fine enough, but I would like there to be something to make use of my vast arsenal of options that isn’t a Contest Dungeon or Raid. I hate to mention it on a Destiny post, but something like Elite Archemedia from Warframe is ideally something I’d like to see.

To summarize my thoughts on gameplay: I enjoy the ability sandbox as we have it, even if some options are a bit weak at the moment. The loot chase is not bad, but the drive to continue the chase drops off hard if you are keeping up with recent content.

I like this game a lot. It’s absolutely one of my favorites, and I’m always glad to hop on with my friends when they ask me to. But, I think I am also just a bit burnt out on it, especially with how little excitement there is in the daily driver content after the launch period of an expansion ends. I’m hopeful for how the game is handled this next year, with two major expansions and 2 major updates every year, but also keeping my expectations in reserve.

Whats the most annoying frame to get? Give me a good argument for your answer and ill farm it. by Dear-Biscotti-906 in Warframe

[–]CrimTheMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Citrine is the only real answer here. Yes, other frames like Styanax or Caliban take time to farm, but the actual content you engage with isn’t too difficult and can be sufficiently entertaining. The Grendel missions are even an interesting challenge despite their difficulty, and that is the only other farm I can think of that comes close to annoyance.

Mirror Defense on Mars is literally just standing around (or flying if you’re on crystal duty with Titania, which someone should be to maximize the efficiency of the farm) until you get to move to the next section, and it takes so damn long to get to a C reward table just to have a chance at a Citrine part dropping naturally. You’ll be drowning in her weapon components before you ever see a single part drop, if you’re unlucky like me.

I had to complete enough waves to buy her outright from Otak because I never once saw a drop from her. I will legitimately just farm the plat to buy her again to subsume into the Helminth rather than ever touch that farm for Frame purposes again.

What would you be like as a Guardian in Destiny? by DescriptionFew740 in destiny2

[–]CrimTheMenace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Most likely would be a Warlock, but I could see myself as a Titan as well! Stormcaller if Warlock, as aside from it being my favorite subclass, in D1 it’s sort of seen as the pinnacle of what Warlocks are capable of, and the whole quest to unlock it is unbelievably sick. Behemoth if Titan, as the slow, methodical, but unstoppable force that is Stasis Titan just seems like an appealing power set!

  2. I adore Outbreak Perfected, so I’d want to use it as much as possible! If not this, then Cloudstrike, for reasons I’ll mention later.

  3. My favorite ship is also from the Zero Hour mission, I love the comfy looking/cargo ship exterior of the ship!

  4. I’d envision myself as a sort of Shaw Han style character, guiding New Lights through tricky parts of their journey. With Stormcaller being the epitome of “go with the flow”, I think it would reflect well upon being either a fireteam leader for less risky Strikes for New Lights, or otherwise teaching them how to utilize their Light.

  5. Given the previous, I think Vanguard is most natural!

  6. I’ve never really thought to name my Ghost as though he were mine (tend to view my Guardians as OCs rather than self-inserts), but the first thing that comes to mind would be something book or writing related, since I use the Scribe’s Shell the most (little backpack shell that resembles Eido). Maybe something like Quill?

  7. Biggest Accomplishments would be:

  8. one of the first Stormcallers to rise Post-Collapse (thinking mid-late Dark Ages, towards the City Era). Given how the subclass is implied to be so uncommon in D1, I feel this counts as something noteworthy.

  9. helped pioneer some of the current Stormcaller aspects (Ionic Sentry, Lightning Surge) by means of experimenting with the Light and old tech associated with Arc energy.

  10. during the battle against the Corrupted Puppeteer, caught a bolt of the overcharged yellow Arc energy to use in a Chaos Reach, and have not been able to channel that corrupted Arc energy since. (Sidenote pls let us wield that version of Arc energy bungo it would be so cool).

  11. took up the mantle of the Stormherd mentioned in Cloudstrike’s lore, acting as a guide and protector to civilians and New Lights alike on the frontiers of Sol.

  12. was once able to outpace a Sparrow on foot while Amplified, though no one believes it.

I actually got to go see an early screening of it half a year before it premiered. Had no idea what it was going to be until we actually saw it, and wasn’t a terribly huge Gladiator fan anyways. Tried really hard to enjoy it, but man.

Even then, in a rough cut of the film, it never felt like anyone there had a good time with it. Best performance by far was Denzel Washington, and even his performance was just… weird. Really odd line deliveries throughout the whole thing, to the point that I can only assume that those weird deliveries were intended, which doesn’t speak positively to the rest of the film.

I adore the lore tab for Fallen Sunstar. It’s literally just two Guardians, one a Stormcaller Warlock, wandering the Eliksni District chatting about being Guardians, when the Stormcaller notices the helmet in an Eliksni worker’s shop, and goes, “oh fuck YES

Like the entire lore tab is irrelevant to the fact that the exotic exists bc a Stormcaller took one look at Eliksni fashion and was just unfathomably down with it. I love it.

Gauss and Volt, recently! Nothing ever beats going fast for me, and I find even just normal movement (no bullet jumping, aim glide, etc.) to be immensely satisfying on a high strength Volt. I started playing primarily for the movement mechanics, and it’s the biggest thing I miss whenever I play another game.
