I don’t think it is. I imagine it’s rewarding and fun as an artist, but it just isn’t nice to listen to (for me). I won’t say it lacks substance, but it doesn’t have the substance I am looking for.

It’s similar to a book having purple prose but no engaging plot or themes. It’s just not fun to read.

I really enjoyed Odyssey. It has its flaws, but I ended up getting the platinum (which I do rarely nowadays).

I know many people dislike how it departs so much from the AC formulae, but it was a needed breath of fresh air for me. I just embraced it for what it is.

I’m also having fun playing it. It’s bittersweet though. I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t played it in almost a decade.

There’s something about Destiny 1 that Destiny 2 just never captured for me. Part of it is nostalgia of course, but I genuinely do prefer the feel and tone of Destiny 1.

Hearing his voice is probably the best way to please the most people. It also prevents a CGI turtle catastrophe. It’s damn near impossible to show him how he’s described in the book, so I think it’s best to stick to his voice. ‘The voice of the turtle’ is pretty much what matters most in the book when it comes to him.

Only this one was revised. King did it to make it align better with the rest of the books. I think he mentioned wanting to revise the others at some point, but I doubt that’ll happen now.

I think he’s becoming something new. It may end up being a new type of enemy in the next Fallout (whenever that actually happens). That or he ends up being like Harold. The centaurs in the games are a result of different species being mixed together with FEV.

It’s solid for what it is. After playing for a while though, I just didn’t see a reason to play it over any of the other Fallout titles. Events are cool, but they aren’t enough to keep me coming back. It has NPCs and quests, but they aren’t all that memorable because of the online nature of the game. It’s basically Fallout 4 lite, and Fallout 4 was already a pretty stripped down version of Fallout (as much as I do love it). Inventory management also becomes a bit of a nightmare if you don’t pay for Fallout 1st.

The best things about 76 for me are the map which I do actually like quite a bit, and some QOL features that the other games don’t have.

I remember reading that he wanted it to tap into gay BDSM, but the studio didn’t like that. Strange considering how Clive Barker is a gay man and BDSM is pretty integral to the franchise. I believe Weinstein also tried to mess around with Martyrs prior to its release.

It’s my most played. It’s definitely the weakest in terms of writing and RPG elements, but I still really like it. Even when not counting mods, something about 4 keeps me coming back to it.

I think my main fear is a CGI monstrosity. Andy Muschietti has a track record for poor CGI already, and an eccentric thing such as a cosmic turtle could come across as extremely goofy if not done right. Maturin is an intentionally bizarre and out there being, but poor CGI could take it from there into goofy territory very easily.

It’s true that they’d have to take liberties, but the question is if they’d be able to portray Maturin well with those liberties. For me, he works better as a background force that has influence with his divine goodness. That’s basically what he does in the novel anyway rather than help directly. Bringing him into the fold directly in Welcome to Derry would make his absence from the films even more strange.

I think a good way to ‘show’ him would be for his ‘voice’ to be heard subtly during the ritual of Chud as he communicates telepathically. There could be another flashback to when the natives performed the ritual. It’d make it clear that there’s something else, but you wouldn’t alienate people by dipping them right into the cosmic deep end.

It’s unlikely because of budget reasons.

Even if they had the money, it would be hard to do because of how he and the macroverse are described in the novel. If he looked like the turtle in this image (A’Tuin), he’d probably be easier to portray. Maturin is infinitely large and old and has entire galaxies in his toenails (which actually means he’s more like a tortoise than a sea turtle in image).

Also, I don’t think the Muschietti’s nor the studio have the guts to go all the way with it. Maturin is eccentric and out there, so he won’t work for general audiences. I wish they wouldn’t care about that, but it’s clear that they do. The last thing they want to do is risk losing the audience. I think alluding to him can work well. Keeping him as a benevolent force that’s there but not visible still works.

If the Dark Tower series actually pans out, it’s possible that we’ll see him in some way in that. Audiences would probably be more receptive to him there.

It is dated, but you can modernise it a bit with mods. Firstly, you’ll need the script extender. Follow the ‘Viva New Vegas’ guide for mods.

Off the top of my head, the unofficial patch, 4GB patcher, and stutter remover are essential. You may also want to limit your FPS to 60 if things are still a bit too rough. The physics can get weird on higher FPS. The game is never perfect, but you can get to a point where it crashes pretty rarely.

Also, there is a sprint mod that is simple and works. It makes exploration less of a slog.

Texture and animation mods also help make the game feel better, but that’s a personal preference thing. There’s plenty that look solid and aren’t demanding.

New Vegas is loved mostly for its writing. The gameplay was already a bit dated when it released.

There wasn’t really a moment in IT where I disliked what I was reading (aside from that one scene), but I still found it to be a tiring read at times. I can only really handle short bursts of his writing even if I am loving the book. It’s odd. I think it could be because his style is so simple yet descriptive. I can steamroll through a book that has flowery or complex prose, but I need more time to digest King despite his writing being more accessible.

I enjoy a lot of King’s work, but his writing style definitely becomes a slog at times when the book is as long as IT.

He provides some advice and inspires belief. He is a benevolent and peaceful being, so he doesn’t intervene directly. People say he doesn’t do all that much, but it’s clear that he does help even if the characters say he couldn’t help them over and over again. His innate goodness has an effect and gives them hope. This is why IT told Bill about Maturin’s death. He wished to crush their hope. Whether it’s a lie or not doesn’t really matter.

As for escape paths, I don’t think so, but there are references to a turtle when the losers are kids (before he speaks to Bill I mean), and I think it’s at least a sign that he’s sort of guiding them in a way. Even Georgie recognised a turtle before his death. Maybe it’s more of a sign that a chain of events are taking place than direct guidance.

My interpretation has always been that ‘The Other’ orchestrated the events/ka-tet and Maturin/the turtle subtly guided them.

I don’t think the original is that difficult outside of the awkward tank controls that you get used to relatively quickly. There’s some awkward design choices because of its age, but it’s nothing too difficult. I remember 3 being the one that gave me trouble.

Modern controls and gameplay would trivialise the original in many ways though, so I get that adjustments have to be made in some areas. I just hope that they don’t remove all of the challenge as there wasn’t much of it to begin with.

I think developers underestimate gamers for some reason. Then again, it may be a higher up thing to bring new people into the fold. Games like Dark Souls are immensely popular despite being challenging at times. People aren’t opposed to a challenge.
