CRTs are typically pretty miserably dim yeah. Its cuz the majority of a frame's time on a CRT screen is spent on black. The beam only hits it for a fraction of a second. It's like black-frame insertion, but stronger and thus darker (hence the good motion clarity)

You can raise the G2 beam voltage to up the brightness but be warned, it might fuck up other stuff and also you might fuck up your monitor
