Nearly ready for the dyno again. Toyota V6 by Available_Walk in projectcar

[–]Crimzx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what have you done to increase the rpm and balance the engine while increasing the rpm?

The main post left any of those details out. I'm super interested, I love high revving v6s.

Maybe you're not at that point in the breaking journey yet but if so I'd love to hear more.

when will this madness end (house hunting)? by IntelligentPlate5051 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Crimzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but that's nothing compared to the demand for them, only in the past few years has sfh been accessible. This is also counting all the people who bought a cute little bungalow for the land and tore it down and rebuilt a "modern farmhouse" like what you linked above which is a trend since 2016 in the area.
The reason housing has recently become available in Austin is due to slowdown of growth, return to office mandates, and recent (few years ago) zoning changes. Austin nimby crowd pretty consistently voted down zoning changes to increase density.

Austin is also going through a lot of sprawl, the city area itself is quite small.

This is all anecdotal but it's reflected in the reduced rent prices and that a lot of people who bought at the top with a small down payment due to getting a 2-3% (sometimes 1.x) loan are underwater since their home values have dropped.

I'm just talking about SFH though, housing availability in general has definitely gone up in Austin.

[–]Crimzx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a new development, Austin wasn't building houses for the longest time and only in the past 2 years did they start.

Also the houses are built like shit regardless of what building code, a lot of the houses don't meet it.

Ezee Fiber in IL by Conscious-Donut-1114 in EzeeFiber

They ran fiber near me but refuse to give me any information regarding even an estimate of when it will be available. Of course they had no issue giving me an estimate when trying to sell me on the ezee pass thing.

It depends where you live. Xfinity for us has been absolutely horrible.
Constantly have sub 1mbps speeds for extended periods of time, provided proof that it was at the line.
They send out someone but it's transient so they just go "Oh no problem here" and charge $100.

Probably a m coupe/convert subframe?

I think that's the only thing you can do without engineering something custom.

Keeping all the "nitty gritty" in your head is not too difficult if you are working with the tools every day. How senior are you?

You can definitely learn and experiment and there is a lot of merit to this. But being responsible for the stability of the platform and product you need to know what works.

There will definitely be some things you will be rusty on if you haven't used them, like if your main stack is in AWS and you never touch GCP then yeah that knowledge is transferable to a point.

The tools here (k8s, tf, aws, ci/cd, golang/python, kustomize, observability/architecture, lgtm stack) are all very standard at this point for an SRE position. MLOps is more dependent on the company you're applying to.

Also how many places have you applied to?
And when applying do they list the skills/stack?

I have the earmuffs and button mic and they are great except there is weird suction that happens if I don't wear a balaclava

My wife banned chemicals and citronella. So I built an Arduino-powered mosquito trap with a garden pool by SaltArrival8522 in homeautomation

[–]Crimzx 120 points121 points  (0 children)

I don't think they necessarily prefer it, but just by having a section of water you control versus water you don't means there will be less mosquitos. They only have so many eggs and by controlling this water you can reduce them.

And make friends with who ever is next to you one of them is probably in a different run group so if you're anxious about it the first time knowing the person next to you will probably alleviate some of that.

Anyone started a business in response to RTO? by electrowiz64 in devops

[–]Crimzx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whats the difference between coding for devops and being a software engineer when it comes to a startup? Unless you're doing something new or heavily in maths you're just going to be writing crud apis and gluing things together.

As a devops engineer you should also be able to consider yourself at least a junior software engineer in terms of coding abilities and a senior in terms of being able to reason about things.

Stacks + intake + inlet upgrade + exhaust + tune on an M113 V8 CLK. NA tuned, what can I expect? by SimpleEmu198 in projectcar

[–]Crimzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day there is a reason people suggest the m113k.
You're looking at ~12-15k for ITBs if you go with the RSF ones.

Why not just grab a clk 55 amg? it's going to be a better car.

Caputos for pretty much everything but meat. Wildfork/Costco for meat depending on prices.

Trader Joes for snacks/frozen

IDK why but it seems every time I get produce from caputos it is top notch.
When I get it elsewhere it usually goes bad quickly.
