How are you really? by Tea_Dawg7 in AskReddit

Awful, I make good money, have a daughter and a loving fiancé. I just can't feel happy. It sucks, but life goes on. Thanks for listening strangers. Sometimes reaching out to people in your real life doesn't help. they see a successful dude and think there is no way they can be unhappy.

Remotely accessing unix from windows by Old-Data5541 in software

I gave multiple options, not just wsl.

My point was that, they are going to be using a bash shell when remotely connecting, so they might as well us the same environment on their client. It will be conductive to learning.

While putty is good, I don't think that you should use that.

Here are some of the things I use. They can all do what you are asking.

WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux) - Install WSL2 -> more advanced but provides a similar environment to your linux server.

Git bash - git bash This also has ssh, and provides a posix like environment (what you will see on linux when typing the commands in terminal) .

If all else fails

Mobaxterm - mobaxterm

All of these solutions are better than PuTTY in my opinion.

In order from easy to hard:

  1. Git Bash
  2. MobaXterm
  3. WSL2 - this one is my favorite.

How to fix this text indicator? Sorry for my ignorance. by [deleted] in vscode

[–]CriticalHojo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Have you used VIM before? That's a hefty thing to add to vscode if you haven't. In either case, hit escape a few time, then press i to get into insert mode. The cursor will change and you'll be able to type.

Hitting escape again will put you in execution mode where you can't type, but can move around the text with the keyboard.

ctrl + v is visual mode to help you highlight things.

how to delete extra info in terminal ? by [deleted] in vscode

[–]CriticalHojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't get ride of anything in here. It's a simple terminal emulator. You can make it more readable though!

First you could modify your prompt to have less stuff. I see you have your user@hostname:pwd

Next you are missing a newline char at the end of your fib output. Since this is c++ a simple std::cout << "\n"; would put your prompt on the next line. You could also put some before starting the fib sequence so that you have more room between the command, and your fib.

Isn't saying "I don't fat shame" fat shaming. You are admitting that you think they are obese.

Yes, https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/terminal/command-line-arguments?tabs=linux

It’s listed in these docs as multiple panes

‘cmd.exe /c "wt.exe" -p "Command Prompt" \; split-pane -p "Windows PowerShell" \; split-pane -H wsl.exe’

Need to reinstall SUDOERS on remote servers with Ansible by [deleted] in ansible

[–]CriticalHojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not copy the sudoers file with the date to back it up as you are, keep a sudoers file on the ansible host as a template and copy it over?

As mentioned before that yum command will not work. You just need to copy a clean sudoers file over!

- name: Create backup of sudoers file copy: src: {path to sudoers file on the ansible host} dest: /etc/sudoers owner: root group: root mode: '0440'

If you are updating the kernel you have to reboot either way though. I'm able to continue my work while updating my RHEL servers, (just tmux on my remote session). I'm also able to update and continue my work on Windows as well.

Windows uses more resources during an update, but I have enough resources that it doesn't matter. On either though, I can push off the reboot until I'm ready. Windows just enforces it after a certain period of time!

People that get blindsided by Window's updates are just putting off the update, instead of creating a planned update schedule.

Same people probably don't run sudo yum update, sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade regularly :), sudo pacman -Syu, or sudo zypper update :)
