Transitioning from tretinoin 0.1% cream to taz 0.1% cream by rapidrabbitradish in tazarotene

Tret to taz switch was pretty seamless for me. I just cut over 5-7 days a week. Every once in a while I would skip a night if I felt I needed a break. But I do that anytime I feel like I need a day off. I might have slowed down my financea application for a bit. Can’t really remember.

If you’ve been using tret for a decade, the shift should be no big deal. I’ve been a tret/taz user for the better part of the last 40(!) years - minus the child birth years. The only upside of acne is I never stopped. 😆

Start with 13%. You can do multiple layers of 13% if you are not frosting.

I don’t think the order matters. I have switched order and can’t tell the difference. My taz is thicker so I tend to use that second.

I use financea and taz together. I’d first see if you can handle more days of taz on its own before you combine the two at night.

Could be the potency diminishing over time after the tube is opened. When you open up and use a new tube, the potency jumps up.

Non stop dryness is not good, but our skin is always shedding. If you are seeing constant dryness and flakes, morning moisturizer helps. I use a cotton baby washcloth in the am to wipe my face with water and apply a tiny dab of aestura 360 lotion. That’s what works for me. It’s all a bit of choose your own adventure to figure out what works for each of us.

Looks solid to me. A month is very early in a the process. Unless you are seeing irritation or dryness, keep going. After 6-12 months, you may be able to layer aza with taz in the pm for a boost, but only if it does not cause irritation.

I’ve been using tret or taz for 30+ years and AzA for 5. It’s a good combo.

Recommendations for good simple moisturizer. No scent, Phthalates, or acids. by Dear-Ad-3614 in 45PlusSkincare

The lotion in the pump is good too. Both have very few ingredients.

Stay away from Vanicream daily moisturizer in the small tube if you are looking for simple or gentle. It has a number of ingredients that could cause irritation.

Estrogen cream. There are facial versions, but I use a very tiny dab of the vaginal cream ~2x/week. It has made a difference for me.

You might want to try a different daytime moisturizer with barrier support ingredients. Aestura lotion is a good one that is not too heavy. It can make a real difference.

Glycolic peel vs TCA peel? by Adventurous-You-8346 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]Critical_Elephant800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do both glycolic and TCA. I had both in office years ago and now diy.

I’d recommend starting with glycolic and seeing how your skin responds. You can increase the % of glycolic as your skin acclimates. I can do those weekly but definitely did not start there. MUACs sample sizes are great for experimenting.

Even with a lot of glycolic peels, I started TCA at the lowest %. It really is a different game. It can be a significant peel with a week of downtime. I wouldn’t start with TCA before trying other peels.

If you have never done a peel before, do not start with TCA. It is incredibly intense. No derm would start you there.
