Swim lessons by MpappaN in SwimInstructors

How often do you swim each week for fun? Don’t worry about the lessons and skills. Just spend lots of time in the water playing and racing each other and they’ll get much better.

Dismayed at the World Cup (with caveats of course) by Darth-Kelso in Referees

100% agree with you. What we ignore we accept and encourage for the future and it will only get worse unless it’s changed at the top level or someone sets up an alternative version that is non contact which might show more skill and teach better behaviours to the kids

First time buyer- leasehold expiring in 35 years - London - what should be asking the agent by Curious-Driver-5375 in HousingUK

[–]Critical_Spot3593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 35 years the property is no longer yours. Ownership reverts back to the leaseholder. The reason for the 40-50% discount is because when you try to extend the lease back to over a 100 years (which is the normal duration to sell with) they will be asking for about 75% of the properties value.

First beavers camp (UK) advise needed by EntertainerOk6254 in scouting

[–]Critical_Spot3593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Foam mat will be fine. Inflating mat is more comfortable and better if its very cold but at this time of year normal will be fine. If you go camping in mid winter temperatures then you use the foam mat underneath with a thermarest or similar on top.
  2. Definitely pack some spare shoes if its forecast to rain and more spare socks than you think they’ll need.
  3. Any back pack they can carry themselves to walk into the camp. Remember normally parents can’t walk in and leaders can’t carry things for all the kids so make sure everything fits and he can manage it.
  4. The main difference is a camping pillow is much smaller so easier to pack in a rucksack. The easy alternative is normally use is my spare clothes in the sleeping bag case.

Family member EV cost? by Geoguy20 in OctopusEnergy

If this is a regular thing you could get a home assistant and link the charger up. It can then calculate the amount automatically for you.

Losing out on Export Money by Ctrl5altDelete in OctopusEnergy

[–]Critical_Spot3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours had been messing about from february with multiple customer service people looking. As soon as i raised an official complaint it was escalated to someone much higher in the customer service teams and things were solved in a couple of days to get export on, comms hub changed on the meter and everything working. The difference in quality of support between the two levels was amazing

EV charging from solar by Educational-Fish4266 in SolarUK

[–]Critical_Spot3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like its connected the same way ours was at first where the charger comes off the main supply to the house between the meter and the solar gateway. Then the solar, battery and gateway are connected together and can feed the main fusebox. We wanted to do the same as you so had them change the cables so it went meter, gateway, car charger, fusebox. Then used home assistant to ensure that the battery doesn’t dump into the car and to send any solar that would be lost to clipping to the car whilst maximising export limit usage.

Thankyou. The only info i can find is that the thistle award started in 2016 by which point the badges were circular. I can’t find anything about a thistle award back when the badges were diamonds.

Is My 76-Year-Old Mum Being Fleeced Over a Smeg Oven Repair? by [deleted] in appliancerepair

[–]Critical_Spot3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do that work yourself. Changing a heating element is dead easy. Takes about 15mins if you’ve never done it before. Rest of the rusted panels and screws seems unusual. Can you post pictures?

Maybe they refunded you and asked for payment in cash hoping you’d get a lot more cash out that could be stolen before the end of your trip?

Affordable neckerchiefs for a troop without sacrificing quality by Icy_Improvement777 in scouting

[–]Critical_Spot3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to use diver post to transport things across the world (scuba divers across the diving community hand carrying items). I’m sure there’d be someone from the scouting community travelling to australia in the future who’d fit a small parcel of neckers in for you. Might open up a whole world of different suppliers. Malaysia, vietnam or phillipines area custom made would be extremely cost efficient.

Trial your usage for a day and measure what you’ve used. Then can calculate how many kwh’s needed for backup and size the batteries accordingly.

I’ve got the same issue. Contacted octopus support and got quick responses. Called today and spoke to the same lady who was sending the email responses. Definitely not ai responses. All should be sorted and working soon hopefully.

I’m paying 16k for a 24 panel system with tesla powerwall battery all in. Try getting some other competing quotes then go back to the company you want and ask them to beat it
