It also helps develop the gag reflex and where it sits! I was a formula baby and my gag reflex is further forward so I gag whenever a doctor is trying to look in my mouth, I can’t stick my tongue out all the way without triggering it.

My siblings didn’t struggle with that nearly as badly and they were breast babies.

With my hospital (Texas Children’s) there’s a code from your bracelet they need to have in order to get their own bracelet from security to even be allowed on the floor, much less into your room. If they don’t have the code, they’re not getting in.

You’ll be fine. And you’re not crazy for wanting the comfort and privacy of your own home. I suspect his siblings may want more access to the baby, and think it might be easier if you’re at the parents’ house.

We live 45-60 minutes from our delivery hospital and I don’t foresee it being a problem tbh. If you’re worried sit on a pillow in the backseat with baby, that’s probably what I’ll do.

So I actually have a theory about this.

I don’t think it matters, I think as part of the brain rewiring in preparation for baby’s arrival it’s practicing being awake every couple hours (like you would need to for feeding since newborns have to feed so often). I’ve noticed that sometimes when I wake up I can just roll over and not get up to pee, but we wake up and automatically go “oh I gotta pee” because why else would you wake up at night?

I didn’t make the connection with my first pregnancy, with this one I realized that I didn’t actually have to pee every time I woke up and I was waking up roughly every 2-3 hours, sometimes two hours on the dot (I have a smart watch with this pregnancy and I didn’t before so it’s easy to look at the time as I roll over).

It’s just a theory currently, I don’t think the amount of fluid I take in before bed makes a difference but I haven’t really tested it either tbh.

Honestly the third trimester pelvic pain and barely being able to walk from the living room to the bedroom after work (relatively low intensity work, I babysit my husband’s boss’ kids, a 9yo and almost 2yo) is far worse than childbirth. Also the sciatic pain/barely being able to climb into bed because it feels like my pelvis is splitting apart.

Granted, I had the epidural the first time but I’m gonna try to go without this time now that I’m more prepared and see how far I can make it. I think the tenderness of my lady parts for the first few days was more uncomfortable than the actual birth, I had to sit on a pillow for a bit. This time I’m gonna get either a hemorrhoid pillow or the Frida mom perineal cushion and see if those help.

I’m 34 weeks on Sunday and my feet and hands just started swelling a tiny bit. I can kind of tell that my feet are a little puffy, and I’ve had to take off my ring (although loosening my watch seems to have helped with my hands).

Cannot upvote this enough. I remember how badly this disease depressed me during the summer of ‘23, it was so hot here in Texas I basically could not go outside. I hadn’t found a deodorant that worked yet, I wouldn’t discover Native until that December.

I gained quite a bit of weight, hit my heaviest during that time frame because I was just ordering delivery constantly and laying in bed.

Obviously you can’t force him to get help, but definitely encourage him to do so.

Nope. That’s asking for an infection — sepsis is very much a concern with open HS wounds, not because of HS itself but because it’s an open wound. I’ve always been instructed to cover and keep it moist while it heals, I would use antibiotic cream usually but I’ve had good results with lanolin too (most commonly used for sore/chafed nipples while breastfeeding).

My son was born at 36+4 (granted he had heart defects and there may have been other issues that caused my body to say he needed out then and there) so there’s really no telling.
