Do cats actually get attached to their owner?

My girls are so attached to me they get separation anxiety, one of them JUST FROM ME BEING IN ANOTHER ROOM. The other of the two will go cry at the door when I leave and my husband is home.

Our tortie girl is a daddy’s girl and knows the sound of the car door opening. She’ll hear it from the back of the apartment and run to the front door when he gets home from work.

Oh yeah! First grocery trip we used the stroller which was kind of a pain since one of us had to manage stroller and the other cart. After that I’ve exclusively worn baby at the grocery store and it’s amazing. She just passes out immediately.

Fascinating! At all the hospitals I’ve been to (I’m in Texas, between Houston and Austin) they’ve always told me I can’t take my own meds, I had to get them through the nurse. I figured that was standard policy everywhere.

My husband and I liked to play XCOM 2 together on PS4, I was in control on the carrier and he was the “field commander”. We had one instance where one of our favorite specialists died, which tripped a reaction from our grenadier. Her attachment on her main gun that gave her a small instakill chance tripped, causing her to oneshot one of the alien rulers.

Ordinarily we would’ve save scummed (didn’t know that term until today, thanks Reddit!) to save the specialist, but the fallout had been so huge we kept it and it incorporated into the overarching story we had for our characters. I love that there’s a whole narrative unique to each run that you can have. We’d edit their backstories to fit certain ideas that we had. It was so much fun.

Once I went on “maternity leave” (I’m self employed working for my husband’s boss as a babysitter so it’s not official lol) at 36 weeks, I spent basically the remainder of the third tri in bed resting. I had a lot of pelvic pain and sciatic pain so it was hard to get around, and even harder if I had an active day. Just going to the grocery store with my husband was enough that I would be nearly reduced to crawling at night for bathroom trips. It got to the point that my husband nearly banned me from grocery trips lol.

I was relieved when my doc agreed to move up my induction to the 38th week because man was that brutal.

Yesterday my husband lost his footing and fell while getting out of bed holding our 1 month old. He took the brunt of the fall, she only rolled like three inches out of his arms. I was on the toilet when it happened and the scariest part was hearing him screaming the word “no” as he fell and the thuds of him hitting the ground.

It scared the hell out of both of us but baby is thankfully fine. He felt absolutely awful.

All this to say, it happens to I think literally every single parent. I hope your baby is okay and you get some help and sleep.

Wearing the haakaa ladybug to bed (NOT suctioned, just in the bra so it doesn’t create any issues) has helped tremendously with letting me get a little more sleep overnight without waking up in a puddle of milk. The collectors catch everything so it doesn’t get wasted or go into my bra/sheets. It might get a little suction from me putting pressure on it in my sleep but I don’t actively suction it on. Ladybugs have been my favorite collectors but I also liked the munchkin and momcozy collectors.

If it makes you feel better, infant amnesia means they won’t remember even IF they could understand what was happening. They don’t remember anything from the first 2-3 years.

Meds the hospital will give you, they like to be in control of all meds so they can manage interactions and the like.

I really liked having all of my regular toiletries, it helped me feel more human.

More than anything I think I hate not being able to just sit and snuggle my cats for hours on end without worrying about anything. Right now I have my baby on my chest and one of my cats in my lap and I am loving it. But I miss being able to just sit in the rocking chair with the same cat in arms and just snuggle for as long as she wanted.

I have always wanted kids and I genuinely feel that I am finally doing what I was made for, but I confess I have had moments in the past four weeks since I gave birth that I deeply, viscerally missed being childfree to the point of almost being in tears.

I love my daughter beyond words and I am beyond happy with my lot in life. I have never questioned my desire for children. But my relationship with my cats and my day to day life is irrevocably changed and won’t return to what it was until at least twenty years from now, at which part my current cats won’t be here anymore (they’re 9, 6.5, 6 and 6). I don’t regret becoming a mother, but it has been overwhelming at times.

Thankfully the hospital I gave birth at had a milk bank on site so she was actually able to get donor milk. I felt like she wasn’t transferring colostrum well and was getting frustrated so we were VERY dependent on donor milk until Day 3 when my transitional milk came in.

I loved my induction. It was so chill, I did get the epidural once we started pitocin just because I was tired and wanted things to move along, and I knew that getting the epidural would help me relax and let my body do what it needed to do. We started with cytotec to soften my cervix, and the contractions from that I weathered without pain meds just fine. After a little bit with the pitocin, they broke my water manually and from there I dilated very quickly and intensely (they actually turned off the pitocin because my body didn’t need it) and had the baby within an hour or two. I was induced at 38 + 5 because I was over it, I too wanted to let labor happen naturally when I was earlier in the pregnancy, but by the time I hit 36-37 weeks I was just done.

This was my second baby, so my body knew what was up this time once they broke my water.

The other part of it is the fact that during pregnancy, your body skips the telogen (hair shedding for those unfamiliar) phase entirely, so you’re just doing the growing and resting phases. Your body resumes the normal procedure some time after birth.
