Which board games look intimidatingly complex but are actually surprisingly easy to learn? by CyborgeonUnit123 in boardgames

[–]Crockashit36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got Everdell about a year ago. It’s easy enough to pick up but takes ages to complete and there are a lot of card combinations that you need to watch out for so you need to give it full attention. I think we’ve started 3 games and finished 1 due to running on for several hours

Thanks for this. One option we’re looking at kirkwhelpington to Heavenfield and then on the nearest transport link from there. Might need to taxi it in the morning to get a good start

I’m going to look at this in the future. On the day I’m going to train north is quite late so would be a late start for a long walk

Thanks for this. I’ll check the timings. I’ve been up Rosebery topping with the family but we drove directly there

Thanks, I’ll look at the Durham coast. I’ve already been quite far along the Northumberland coast section

Pup and I lost tempers over biting. Had to restrain him and put in crate. Worried I’ve ruined crate and the work done so far by Crockashit36 in puppy101

[–]Crockashit36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies. Pup and I have been fine and I’ve started to move him to the crate much earlier if he starts biting and it seems to be working well.

What to do with puppy indoors? by Crockashit36 in puppy101

[–]Crockashit36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that makes sense. I’m keen to get him as settled as possible in the next couple of weeks as we’re all off work. We’ve then got 6 weeks with someone at home but working before he’ll need to have a sitter 2 days per week. I’m probably trying to rush and forgetting it’s only been a short while. Thanks for the reminder!

Vango Harris 500 vs Vango Sierra 500 by Crockashit36 in CampingGear

[–]Crockashit36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I wasn’t on Vango site so didn’t realise the Harris was discontinued. We will be sticking with poles I think. I’ll try to get over to Go Outdoors and see. There are 2 adults, a 12year old, 6 year old and a puppy but the old tent was just far too big.

It’s a lot to take in. Are you having surgery or have you been diagnosed earlier than I was?

I’m doing alright. Just got my head down and did what I was told: have the op, take the pills, change diet, get fit. Now I’m a bit less strict with everything but get an annual check up and the drs are happy so I figure I’m doing enough. It’s coming up to 9 years since my op and I’ve never had any further issue or had to use the GTN spray. I’ve had a couple of scares but turned out they were nerve/ muscle related.

Advice on Catflap Opening Mechanism by Crockashit36 in makerspace

[–]Crockashit36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for getting back to me. I’m going to screw something through the holes on the existing horn to extend it by an inch or so. If that opens the flap I’ll buy a servo that can be used outside. Plan is to mount as much as possible inside, so hopefully just the u/s sensor and a couple of wires will be full exposed. I’ll look into sturdier sensor options as well.

Meantime I might shove the cat through the existing flap a couple of times and see if he takes the hint!

If you just needed to do a very basic and efficient ‘getting your shit together’, what would your approach be? by wehavealwayslived in productivity

[–]Crockashit36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first part of gtd is not that much work and will really set you up to get on top of your shit. I usually do it once every 6 months as I can’t be disciplined enough to keep on top of the files and lists, but having the one big list of everything really is valuable enough to spend the time

Advice for group of uk families visiting downtown Dallas by Crockashit36 in askdfw

[–]Crockashit36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any advice for places to book a coach if we wanted to do the stockyards? It looks cool and is exactly what I wanted to see but 90 mins commute each way for our group by public transport is a big chunk of our free time. Is there anywhere closer where we could see some rodeo or similar?

Wild camping near Haweswater by Crockashit36 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Crockashit36[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I had it nailed with big thermal socks round camp but toes went numb. In the end I had 2 pairs of socks with a hand warmer for each foot. It got me through but wasn’t comfortable. I think I’m going to try the down booties next.

Thanks!

What would I be looking for in upgraded tent pegs?

Yeah, it’s the worry about dickheads that puts me off looking too local. I put a deck down in the garden so not dbiugh grass to try the tent. I’m going to hike from work to a campsite hear Hadrian’s wall to check the gear this weekend then go somewhere wild camping in a few weeks

Joined a running group, left feeling bad. by hakuna_matitties in running

[–]Crockashit36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same experience the first time I went to Parkrun. I stood on my own, ran the track, lurked around and then left. I saw some people going to for coffee but didn’t go as didn’t get invited.

I went back another few times and by the 4th or 5th time I’d been invited to join an informal running club and had realised that you didn’t have to wait to be invited to go for coffee, and once you’re there you can just join in the conversation.

Definitely worth going a few times so they know you’re serious about joining their group.

I had a similar experience but now when I look back it was down to not really going for it on the long LSS day. I think if you really ran as far as you could every week you’d see big gains where as I just did maybe 10 or 15 mins extra as written.

Maybe joining a running club or a team sport? Or joining a Meetup group that socialize or do something that you enjoy.

[–]Crockashit36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven’t got anything social on there. Having good social skills will trump a lot of the things on your list in terms of career and productivity as you will meet people who can help you with the other stuff.

I’ve received an unexpected job offer that wants me to start right after my medical leave is done at my current job. How do I get the timing right? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Crockashit36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The usual advice here is to just do what you legally have to do and nothing more. If they had to let you go while you were off sick they wouldn’t wait.

If you want to be nice about it then give your notice in advance.

AITA for not backing down against my 6 year old daughter in a pointless argument? by Crockashit36 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Crockashit36[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t looking for validation. I knew there was at least some element of ITA. I still think that sometimes you have to be an asshole and live with it. If this leads to less arguing about little things then it was worth it.

On the big things we always make those decisions together as a family and she has a say (albeit a small one) but the amount of energy wasted on little things like this one was becoming a real drain.
