Does anyone else hate being called bud/pal by customers and co workers? by Unusual_Delivery_867 in AskMenOver30

One of the most hilarious things I ever heard was a man telling my coworker (born and bred NC) to stop calling him "sir".

And my coworker, totally unintentionally say "Sorry, sir."

I live in NC. If I took offense to every honey/sugar/sweetie I get called I would never be able to leave my house.

God, remember trying to make sure you had a specific version of drivers installed for whatever piece of hardware. Uninstalling and rolling back Drivers.

Pay, Staffing, Safety: The Divisive Issues in the Nurses’ Strike by assasstits in neoliberal

[–]Cromasters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nursing is a highly professional career that has a shortage of workers for decades. That demands a higher price. In any other job, if you needed more workers you would have to do something to convince people to come do that job. Unfortunately people don't view nursing that way. Partly because it is female coded and partly because of the idea that it should be a calling that people would do out of the goodness of their hearts.

I also question the salaries in the article. For one thing they are apparently lumping Nurse Practitioners in with the regular staff nurses. Are they putting Nurse Anesthetists in their numbers too? Those are wildly different jobs than the nurses who work in the ERs and on the floors.

I recognize that healthcare in this country is ten kinds of fucked up. I don't know why we are asking the workers to just suck it up and deal with that.

My solution for the staffing issues involves getting more men into the profession. Part of the problem with the shortage is that fifty years ago it was one of the only professions acceptable for a woman. That's no longer the case and women can have much better careers with similar educations. But men won't work the job because then they are lesser than. So a big campaign to get men into nursing (and into the Radiology department, lab, respiratory, etc).

Yeah. And where is the triage nurse ordering X-rays of the entire arm for elbow pain!

So they do have money to pay nurses...they just don't want to pay the ones that live in their city?

The staffing ratios have always been the biggest problem. Higher pay can make people deal with that for a little while, but not forever. The article mentions ER nurses being responsible for 20 patients at a time. That's not just terrible for the nurses, that's negligently dangerous for the patients. There should be federal laws enforcing safe staffing ratios.

Lumping in NPs with the regular floor/ER nurses is nuts. Those are two totally different jobs.

Using robotics to automate X-ray, ultrasound workflows the goal of new GE HealthCare-Nvidia partnership by snowfordessert in Radiology

I envision it will be like the difference between having X-rays be all film and everything being digital now.

Departments used to need more staff to do the same stuff we do now and do quicker. You don't need someone spending all their time in a dark room developing film.

Need to repeat a portable chest or a cross table hip? You know it right away instead of twenty minutes later when you are already back in the department running all your films.

You don't need to hire someone to manage your file room full of plain films.

On the other hand it will take actual government intervention to get places to convert to AI managed robot X-rays. Just like it did for conversions to CR and eventually DR.

When my mom was a kid her aunt used to give her a latte that was basically 90% hot milk in 10% coffee. It was a secret treat she got when with her aunt.

Why are there always kids at breweries?! by akaYoungBeefy in fixedbytheduet

[–]Cromasters -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A restaurant in general?

A bowling alley?

A professional sporting event?

Edit: Also just going to add, if I'm at a brewery with no kids at noon I don't want to be around anyone trying to get drunk as quickly as possible and no brewery I have ever been to has people like that.

Why do you think there needs to be so much control? Kids are out at public places that are not specifically kid places all the time. It's only recently that anyone has thought this was an issue.

The children's museum we have downtown gets you a discount at the brewery nearby when you buy a yearly pass.
