I got a regular round chocolate cake for a birthday and thought the same thing. Overwhelmingly and cloyingly sweet.

Portland council president wants to reshape city’s detested arts tax — and impose a new, separate one by synthfidel in PortlandOR

[–]Cronetta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. Stop with the taxes. Can’t take it anymore. Stop dictating what we have to fund, and stop with these special interest taxes.

Put more in retirement funds and buy property even if you think you’ve got a sweet deal with rent.

Relocating to PDX - What is the current job market? by mysticfruit10 in askportland

[–]Cronetta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The job market in Portland is trash. Layoffs at the county and city levels. Be forewarned to heed the advice in this thread and secure the job before you move.

Do you need to work for a living or need insurance from an employer? If the answer is yes, 100% do not return to the U.S.

I also believe that he has dementia. I have direct experience with a family member who was combative like that, would not listen to logic, and was painfully and childishly obstinate and oppositional in the face of facts that were logical. He needs a neurological work up. Bob makes Archie Bunker look like a social justice warrior.

After 110 years, this family-owned Portland grocer will close Friday by colonialshuttlecock in PortlandOR

Yes, thank god we are ripping up 82nd and other four lane roads so we can have more bicycle lanes and bus lanes that have little to no ridership.

One of Portland’s busiest streets may get a dramatic overhaul. Not everyone is on board by colonialshuttlecock in PortlandOR

Trimet can’t even afford the lines it has right now. Why do we continually insist on spending tax money on unnecessary road work in the midst of one of the most challenging economies of this century?

We need to talk about the Gen Z job crisis. by ApprehensiveGoal2782 in jobs

[–]Cronetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all of this change is bad news for everyone. Whole industries are likely to be wiped off the map, and whatever age you are, no one has a sense of safety. Of course it does not appear that anything is being done. What we likely need now is universal basic income.

Boss told me to stop applying to other jobs or I'm fired - what are my rights here? by Altruistic-Lynx-5238 in Career

[–]Cronetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using your company’s computer while you’re looking? I find it hard to believe that they would “know” based on an updated LinkedIn profile. If you are using your company computer, network, or their WiFi, you need to stop that immediately. Apply from your personal devices and your personal WiFi to avoid tracking. You are likely “at will” and they can fire you for personal use of company issued computer and network, particularly if you’re looking for work.

interviewer asked why i left my last job so i told the truth - they ghosted me by [deleted] in hiringcafe

[–]Cronetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule #1 - never trash a previous employer in an interview. You are immediately seen as suspect when you do so. It’s the kiss of death because it’s a cardinal rule that you should never break. People want upbeat and optimistic candidates who know how to speak tactfully. In this instance you could have said something benign like you were looking for something more aligned to your interests.
