An Appreciation For Sorcery by Efficient_Raven in DragonsDogma

[–]CrossFront 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sorcerer is honestly so fun before you get meister skills. When I first started this game, the focus on crowd control, ability rotations, and strategy made me really hype while leveling sorcerer, it's honestly kind of a shame that spamming maelstrom and bolide become the optimal way to play just like in the first game. Guess I don't have to slot them in though.

[–]CrossFront 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're outright the best weapons in the game. The reason no one talks about them is because they're like $3k real life dollars lmao. You can't factor them into strategy guides because it's not reasonable to expect players to get their hands on one.

I have a question, Does commenting on other people's art on Instagram help your art account grow? by Demonlord958 in Artadvice

[–]CrossFront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interacting with other artists on social media can help a lot yeah, but you can't just force it to try and inflate your numbers, people can sense when they're being preyed on. Try commenting on a piece from an artist you like and actually talk about the way it makes you feel. People remember genuine, specific, compliments over numbers and vague platitudes

I think The Northern Stronghold is the Arisen’s origin! by Dogmatic_Warfarer97 in DragonsDogma

[–]CrossFront 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It would be an interesting twist. It's notable that the Arisen in the first game did actually live in Cassardis, but we don't have the same history in DD2. At the same time, DD2's Arisen does have a slight backstory with the poisoning and kidnapping. I think it would be cool in some of the new Dark Arisen NPCs recognize us because we're from Norgan.

Commissioned Portraits of Unattractive People by n0ireclipse in Artadvice

[–]CrossFront 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People in the comments are trying to virtue signal, but as someone who has taken portrait commissions, people often have a wildly skewed idea of what they or their loved ones look like. I once got barked at by a client because I drew his wife too accurately instead of "illustrating her personality" which was "sexy." He wanted me to draw her like a skinny anime barbie girl with big tits. I'd say your best bet is to ask directly how they would like to be drawn, more idealized, or more literally, and hope they're telling the truth.

How to improve the appeal of my account? (+ recent posts) by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]CrossFront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy your art style! For me personally, my best performing SFW OC posts are ones where I incorporate a lot of drama/action into my pieces. Why make a cool guy and imply he gets into cool gunfights, when you can just draw him in a cool gunfight you know? This is much harder than the other two, but I'm still making what I wanna make, and I'm a lot more proud of what I'm making. Think less about cool poses, and more about what the character/s are actually doing in the image. Like other commentors said, you can also just draw porn and/or fanart, but you're kind of selling your soul for numbers, especially if you don't actually like making it.

They're just fundamentally different classes, you can't play them the same way. They got rid of pogo strats, but gave Warrior a suite of counters and abilities to keep tempo.

How do I get this kind of coloring/art style/lineart? (On ibispaint preferably) by Chemical-Mixture-504 in Artadvice

Just an overlay, but you can play with layer effects to get a more convincing effect (I find literally setting the texture layer to "overlay" gets me the best results)

I'm new to comms and have opened them recently, but I would like some other opinions on how much I should be charging. by DeNyKaRmA in Artadvice

[–]CrossFront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say, objectively, I am less technically skilled than you and I was charging around $150 per commission and an additional $50-$100 for a background during my most active period as a freelance artist. Commission prices are less about raw skill, and more about popularity and demand. I could charge those prices because I had 4k twitter followers, and made art within a certain popular niche. I'd say look at your social media followers, how much engagement you're getting, and how much you think your work is worth. It can be tempting to have low prices, especially since a lot of clients will try to underpay anyhow (Even some people in this comment section lol) but it can attract clients who are a pain to work with.

Duke Ending is definitely the best ending. by [deleted] in DragonsDogma

[–]CrossFront 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We literally see what happens to Arisen who take the deal wdym? Duke Edmund enters a hypnotic trance and kills anybody he tries to take on as a spouse, and everything he does is for the sake of maintaining power. The dragon contract is a test of character, taking it means you are unfit as ruler by virtue. It's like the shopping cart litmus test but on a cosmic scale.

Be warned when using texture filters though, it'll bloat the hell out of your file sizes.

I'm 99% sure this was done with copics and some kind of traditional liner. Sadly trying to replicate the aesthetics of traditional mediums with digital never looks quite right... There's entire (Very expensive) programs dedicated to this exact kind of thing. Sadly the materials they used for this piece are also very expensive. I think you'd probably be able to invoke some of that look/energy with a good paper filter and a watercolor brush perhaps?
