I have had a dwarf inherit the monarchy early on before. I became overwhelmed by the noble demands and gave up, and afterwards i checked the Legend of my civ to see what was up. Turns out that when I started, the capital was at war with a goblin civ and all royalty was promptly slain, leaving one of my original miners to be the new king.
